Chapter 108 - The Silver Light in Max’s Life

‘Well, it’s not like this is the first time he’s done something I can’t understand… I was stupid for even asking him.’ I was trying to close the window after letting him in the room, when he placed his hands over mine.

“I’ll do it,” he said.

I suddenly thought that he had finally matured since he had never listened to me before.

“Well, all I have to do is pull,” I said, but he still didn’t let go. Noticing that his temperature felt a little feverish, I turned around and saw that his face was a little more reddish than usual.

“Are you okay? I think you have a slight fever…”

He gazed at me for a while, then answered in a soft voice. “I don’t know.”

I hurriedly closed the window, then took his hands off of mine. “I’ll tell the maid to call our doctor.” I was about to pass by him, when he carefully wrapped his hands around mine.

“Don’t go,” he said gently. I was beginning to feel strange being watched by his serious expression which was different than usual when he continued, “It’s nothing. I usually have a high temperature.”

I frowned. ‘Wow. Why is he joking about something like that?’

I then noticed that he was smiling at me. I couldn’t look away from his handsome face for a moment, but soon was able to come back to my senses. “Why are you smiling?” I asked scoldingly.

“Because I feel like I know why now,” he promptly replied.

‘Know what?’ I looked at him blankly out of curiosity.

“Let’s sit down first,” he said and naturally led me to the couch as if this was his room.

“My spot is…” Since he usually occupied the spacious couch alone, I tried moving to the armchair across the room, but he didn’t let go of my hand.

“Sit here,” he ordered.

“What?”

“You’ve always looked at this couch like you wanted to sit here.”

I was amazed, since I did not expect the man who never gave up his spot to say such a thing. “Wait a minute, what happened? Did something happen with my father?” I indirectly asked if he had finally become a normal functioning human while talking to my father.

He stared at me then opened his mouth. “Master is starting to doubt.”

“Doubt? Doubt what?” I asked, startled at his words.

“He is doubting… our relationship.” He answered slowly.

I was shocked by his unhurried words. ‘I was so nice to him and even acted coy… but he’s still doubting us?’

“It’s probably because you’re the only one who’s initiating the act,” he continued with a frown.

‘I’m the only one?’ I narrowed my eyes, but remained silent since his words were true to some extent. I had never given him the chance to say anything out of nervousness.

“I thought about what we could do, and came to the conclusion that we need to get to know each other better,” he continued.

What he said made sense, since I didn’t know anything about him to start with. “Alright! Then what should we—”

“Take a seat first, then we’ll talk.” He tapped the spot next to him.

When I awkwardly sat down, I could feel all his attention focused on me. His gaze, which was different than usual, made me feel strange. ‘How do I put this… It’s a little uncomfortable.’ But the more I thought about it, I started to realize that this feeling probably originated from my victim mentality. Judging from his usual behavior, he was probably looking at me without much thought. ‘If I try to avoid his gaze, he might get offended.’

I stared at him calmly and opened my mouth. “So, what do you want to know about each other?”

“Well, what do you like?” he asked in a low-pitched voice.

At his inquiry, I thought about what I liked. ‘What do I like?’ It just occurred to me that I had been living my life without even thinking about if I liked anything. ‘In my past life, I had spent all my time trying to get a job, and in this life, I had spent it chasing after Mikhail so far.’ I was starting to feel regretful, wondering why I didn’t even know what I liked and why I hadn’t lived for myself until now.

At that moment, Max opened his mouth and said, “I like swords.”

As soon as I processed his words, I became somewhat disheartened. I couldn’t believe that he could spit out something so easily while I was thinking seriously over the problem.

‘Well, come to think of it, it’s simple.’ I let out a hollow laugh. My favorite things? It was a difficult question at first, but now it was no longer worrisome.

“Well, I guess I like books for now.”

“Books? Is there anything else?”

“I also like looking at flowers. As well as drinking tea.”

“And?”

“And relaxing while lying down…” I talked about this and that, then suddenly wondered what else he liked.

“Besides swords, is there anything else you like?”

“Well…” he stared at me as he trailed off.
