Chapter 206 - Higgedly Piggedly

‘How annoying,’ she thought. ‘I’ll push him out of the way and get to Jubelian… What?’ The princess had been keeping her eyes on the lady and frowned once she realized what was happening. ‘Where is she going? Did she… forget about our promise?’ Bewildered, Beatrice took a step toward Jubelian without realizing it.

That was when Mikhail asked, “Will you grant me the honor to dance, Your Highness?”

Jubelian had disappeared from her view while she had turned to Mikhail. Enraged by her obstacle, the princess scowled. She then spat out, “I have no intention of granting you such glory, so get out of my way.” The lively party froze at the royal lady’s cold voice. Beatrice could see the shock in her parents’ faces but did not care anymore.

‘I have to find her!’ She swiftly left the banquet hall. Dennis, who had been instructed to watch the princess, did not even realize she had left.

The two ladies and I matched up with impromptu partners in the banquet hall, and the gentlemen escorted us to the lounge room.

“Lady Floyen,” Lord Elios called me with a sweet voice as we walked down the spacious hall of the royal palace.

I looked up in response. “Yes, what is it?”

Smiling brightly, he said, “I just wanted to call your name, my lady.”

I didn’t understand. Why did he call me if he didn’t have anything to say? In any case, I nodded. “I see.” Come to think of it, I had done such a thing to Max when I had been bored. Perhaps Lord Elios was feeling the same way.

Gently stroking my hand, he said, “It’s amazing, isn’t it? I never imagined that an opportunity like this would come to me.”

“What opportunity?”

His eyes bent into the shape of a crescent moon as he answered, “I’ve always wanted to play card games with you.”

Perhaps… he thought I had a talent for such things. In reality, I was terrible at card games. He was bound to be disappointed.

“Jubelian!” someone called me just then.  I turned my head in response to the infuriated yell then widened my eyes when I realized who it was.

‘How did she get here?’

The rest of the group who saw the person calling me lowered their heads to show respect as she was a member of the royal family. I was about to bow as well when she addressed my full name.

“Jubelian Eloy Floyen.”

Although her voice was familiar, I kept my eyes lowered as I was confused by the situation. The lady then grabbed me by the chin and lifted my face. Her red eyes carried a hint of sadness, and her eyebrows were furrowed, showing that she was disappointed.

Swallowing nervously, I met her eyes. Why had she come here instead of dancing with Mikhail? All kinds of thoughts came to mind.

Her eyes fixed to mine, Beatrice opened her mouth. “You do not have to lower your head in front of me.”

I raised my eyebrows in surprise as this was the line I was all too familiar with.

“Because you are one of my people.”

It was what she would say after opening herself up to Mikhail.

“Look, these guys attacked me.”

Max looked at the man before him with disapproving eyes. It was Avalta—he had tied up more than 10 strong men and was complaining about it.

“And you called me here just because of this?”

Grinning, Avalta offered something to Max. “They shot me with this needle dipped in poison. I’m just saying you should watch out for your sister as well.”

“She’s going to be fine. I told her to stay in the banquet hall. You’re the one who drank the whole morning in your room. Don’t whine about it.”

Avalta smiled awkwardly at the scolding. That was when one of Max’s subordinates barged in and reported urgently, “Your Highness, Her Royal Ladyship has disappeared from the hall!”

“What? What about Dennis?”

“A-about that… She started running out of the court, and she was so swift that no one could catch her…”

“Useless b*stard,” Max muttered under his breath as he rushed out of the guest room.
