I was assigned to the exploration team while Rio was assigned to the gathering team and Taku and Ayaka were both on the food team.

Everyone had begun to move and Ayaka had started to speak to me.

“Hey, take this.”

She was holding out her hand.

In her hand was a small fancy knife.

“You don’t have a weapon, right? So, take this.”

I took the knife and spoke.

“Thank you.”

“Yeah.”

She then went with Taku to go hunt for some food.

The exploration team had called everyone to a circle but before that Rio started to speak.

“...I wante- Good luck Leo!”

He stopped himself from saying what he wanted and wished me luck with a smile.

I put my hand on his head and spoke.

“Thanks. Good luck.”

I walked to the group who were in a circle.

Looking at the members, I checked their statuses, there was-

Oscar who had a ‘Teleport’ skill.

Calvin who had an ‘Invisibility’ skill.

Violet who had a ‘Sneak’ skill and a ‘Assassination’ talent, scary.

And then me. Who had a ‘Music’ talent.

Violet was in my ‘Real Combat’ class, so we were sort of familiar with each other. The other two I haven’t spoken to at all.

Oscar had spoken first

“We should probably decide on if we’re exploring together or split up, right?”

“I think we should each go our separate ways, north, east, west, and south. So that we have a better understanding of the area.” Violet responded.

“That’s a good idea. I think so too.” Calvin added.

The rest of them looked at me.

“That’s fine with me.”

I didn’t really mind whether we’d be alone or together, they both had their own benefits and downsides.

“Alright. Then I’ll go south.”

“I’ll go west.”

“East.”

I guess that leaves me with north.

“Before we all go, take these.” Oscar had given us all small devices.

“These will let us communicate with each other, if we find anything important then we should let each other know. I gave the last one I had to Kazu, so he’ll be able to hear us as well.”

“If you’re holding this button then we’ll be able to hear each other.”

So, these were sort of like walkie-talkies then?

I fiddled with the device for a few seconds before putting it in my pocket.

“You’re pretty prepared.”

I gave him a compliment; these things were useful.

“Thanks. Thank you as well.”

Huh? I didn’t do anything? Whatever.

We had each tested our devices before we went our separate ways, I went north, Violet went east, Oscar went south, and Calvin went west.

---

I decided to take it slow and conserve my energy, I was walking through the seemingly endless forest and leaving a mark with the knife on the trees I passed.

There wasn’t anything I saw that was worth noting.

I’ve been walking in a straight line for a few minutes now, other than the casual bugs and small animals there was really nothing. I hadn’t heard anything over the device either.

Huh? What’s that?

As I headed past a tree into an opening, I could see a big mountain. There was a cave entrance as well.

I couldn’t see this before because of the leaves blocking our vision, but this is pretty big.

Looking up, it was a cliff.

Using the device Oscar gave me it made a static noise before clearing up.

“Hello?”

I could hear more static before a reply came.

“Hello, Leo is that you?”

It was Kazu.

“Yeah, I found a cave.”

“A cave?”

“Yeah.”

“Is there anything in it?”

Huh? You want me to check out this cave alone? Are you stupid?

“I haven’t checked.”

I could smell something burning.

“Alright, then you should probably come back for now, it’s getting dark.”

“Okay.”

I put the device back in my pocket and I suddenly got chills.

I looked around but it was all just forest and the cave, the usual bugs were crawling around, but I haven’t seen any animals.

I decided to start walking back following the marks I made, the sky was darkening, and I didn’t want to be in the forest alone at night.

---

After I got back to the camp, it seemed like there was a lot of progress. There were tents set up and a campfire made.

Everyone was already back except for me; I could see there were some small animals that the food team hunted.

Everyone was gathered up in a circle, so I squeezed my way in.

“I don’t want to skin it!”

“I don’t want to either!”

“The food team should do that! They hunted it!”

Kazu looked like he was having a tough time.

“Does anyone here know how to skin an animal?” Kazu asked while looking around.

Everyone was silent for a moment before Rose spoke up.

“I-I do...”

Kazu’s eyes brightened, and he went up to her and grasped her hands.

“You do!? You’re amazing Rose! Could you please help us?!”

“O-O-Okay...”

“You’re a lifesaver!”

The looks of relief spread to everyone’s faces.

I looked around and saw Rio towards my right, he looked a little down. He looked back towards me, and his expression got brighter.

“Leo! You’re back!”

He ran in front of me.

Kazu looked back towards me as well.

“Oh, Leo! You said you found something right? Could you explain it in detail?”

“Sure.”

Rose took the animals to a private area and began to skin and butcher them.

Everyone else gathered around the campfire and Kazu asked me to elaborate.
