Chapter 18: Chapter 16: Resolution

The moment after Leonmitchelli sat down and took a deep breathe to center herself, she began telling her and Gaul's story.

"Mine and Gaul's parents were adventurers." Leonmichtelli began. "They were both third-class adventurers belonged to the Bast familia. It was a small exploration-type familia." She explained. Putting a nostalgic smile on her face as she did so.

"The goddess Bast was quite fickle. But she was kind. As was everyone else who was apart of the familia." Leonmitchelli explained. "They taught me and Gaul several things from stuff about weapons to how to manage money and equipment. Those were fun times." She explained. Leonmitchelli then got a dark look on her face. "But then in one night everything changed." She hisssed out.

Her tail standing on end as she did so.

"The Bast familia was attacked, and all of its members were killed, including mine and Gaul's parents. And the culprit responsible were Evilus." Leonmitchelli spat out. "That's why I won't ever forgive them. Never. And it's also the reason why I have made a resolution to see those scum wiped out." She told Ryner and I.

The two of us said nothing.

We simple sat there and processed everything Leonmitchelli just told us as she worked to calm herself down. Athena assisting as she did so.

'To think Gaul and Leonmitchelli had such a past.' I thought.

Yet, ever since I've known them they've also been so cheery and kind. Yet they were hiding all this anger and pain.

It just goes to show me you never truly know what people have on their plate, even if they are friends or family.

Eventually Leonmitchelli calmed down.

Once she did Ryner spoke up, breaking the silence.

"So not to be rude, but if the entire Bast familia was destroyed then how are you and Gaul here right now?" He asked.

I'll admit I'm curious about that as well.

"Luck." Leonmitchelli told us. "It was really dumb luck. Gaul and I were out playing with Millhiore. And like several times before we didn't notice how late it had gotten. But once we did we rushed back home, and that's when we saw it. A scene I will never forget for the rest of my life." She said darkly.

(3rd Person: POV)

Standing outside their home Leonmitchelli and Gaul looked on.

Paying no attention to the torrent of rain drenching them, nor the bone-chilling cold permeating the night air.

No, instead all of the siblings focus was on what was in front of them.

Their home on fire, blood on the streets and the corpses of Bast familia members littering the ground.

Including their parents.

As the two Rois siblings stared at this both of them began to cry without realizing it.

Then before they knew it they were wailing in utter agony.

Their cries being drowned out by the heavy rainfall.

As if the sky itself wanted to mask the extent of their pain.

(Morax: POV)

"That night I cried harder than I ever had before in my entire life." Leonmitchelli explained to Ryner and I.

After describing the scene of the way she and Gaul found their home on that fateful night the Bast familia was wiped out.

"I don't know how long Gaul and I just stood there, but eventually that came to an end when members of the Ganesha familia showed up on the scene." She explained. "Once they did they removed the bodies and made sure all arrangements for our parents and everyone else in the familia was taken care of. We were thankful for that. Anyway, once all that was said and done we moved into the orphanage with Millhiore and then began looking for a new familia to take us in. A month after we began to do so we met Athena."

"Yes." Athena said. "I had just descended from Heaven a week prior." She explained. "One night I was out looking for work when some members from Evilus tried to attack me, that's when the siblings and their friend Millhiore stepped in and saved me. Once that happened and they told me of their resolve to rid the world of Evilus I blessed them with Falna and they became my first children." She explained.

"I see." I said. "Well, thank you for sharing this with us." I said.

"It's no trouble at all." Athena said.

"Yes, what Athena just said." Leonmichtelli added. "And just to be clear we would've shared our plans with you both eventually, but we needed to know we could trust you guys first."

"Completely understandable." I said. "So then, I have a question. Did you only become adventurers to get revenge on Evilus?"

I looked Leonmichtelli dead in the eyes as I said this.

Since depending on her answer Ryner and I might leave the familia.

It's not that I have an issue fighting Evilus. I will gladly do so since the sooner they are gone, the sooner we can actually explore the dungeon without worry. However if all Leonmitchelli and the others are concerned about is revenge then I can't stay in the familia.

Not if obsession and hatred are the basis for the Athena familia's formation.

I know Ryner feels the same way.

That's why I want to hear Leonmitchelli's true thoughts right here and now.

"Morax, I can tell you right now we did not only become adventurers to get revenge on Evilus." Leonmitchelli told me. Looking me in my eyes as she did so. "While taking them down is one of our goals, it is not the only goal we have in sight. My brother and I are actually aiming to become first-class adventurers one day, and turn the Athena familia into a first-class familia." She told me.

"Oh, some big goals." I said. Putting a grin on my face as I did so. "Well thank you for being honest. And also, I'll be happy to assist you in achieving all your goals."

"I will as well." Ryner said.

"Thank you. Thank you both so much." Leonmitchelli said. A smile appearing on her face as she did so.

Athena is smiling as well.

"Dinner is ready!" Millhiore cried.

As soon as she did so we all went into the dining room and sat down at the table.

Then a minute after we did so Ryuu and Gaul appeared, the latter having a fist mark over his left eye.

Seeing this I grinned at Gaul.

"Not a word." He said. Taking a seat next to me. "Not a word."

"I didn't say anything." I said. Raising my hands up in defense. A shit-eating grin on my face as I did so.

"This looks good. Thank you for the food." Ryuu said.

Not commenting about Gaul's left eye at all.

Lightly scratching her cheek Athena let out a soft laugh. "Yes, no problem Ryuu. Now let's eat before it gets cold." She spoke.

Once she did everyone dug in, enjoying the food without reservation.

Even Ryuu.

Since right now she has a smile on her face.

Which is a very welcome sight if I do say so myself.
