Chapter 16: Chapter 14. Take It Slow

A shame to the family.

An unwanted child.

Dad's illegal son.

Born out of incestuous bond.

What a disgrace.

A sin.

An abomination.

It was only in mere seconds that Adrian gathered the thoughts coming from the minds of the two men and in that mere seconds, Adrian instantly realize how Devon and him are... similar. Those thoughts were produced as slaps to Adrian's own face. Except for incestuous bond, all of the other insults were regarded as his own. And in that instant, Adrian built a connection to Devon. A strong one. So much that it caused him to stand up strong and fierce in front of both Kevin and Victor, blocking them from moving forward towards Devon. This act, shocks even Devon himself. "Back off," Adrian said.

With his demonic abilities unleashed, his command made the two men's legs wobbled in fear. "A-Adrian?" Victor managed to voice out. This man in front of them now, looks very different than the other times that they met.

With the deadly intimidating looks in his eyes, Adrian walks forward to face them. With one step forward, the two took one back. This is inclusive of their henchman who backs away in fear. "You've had your fun last night. Only... with my permission. Today, you touch Devon, I'll rip your heart out," he said, it was not an exaggerated threat. He meant every word.

Devon was speechless by the threat. He wasn't the only one, of course. He only snapped back to reality when Adrian called him to go. "What the hell are you waiting for?!" He asked with his head only slightly tilted to indicate for them to go. With that, they both walk out of the room. The two men outside tried to stop them but was froze in their track with Adrian's mere threatening looks from his eyes. As a result, they weren't stop. They got into Devon's car and drove off.

"Hmm... so where do you want to go?" Devon asked Adrian. His fear somehow lingers. Despite of him knowing who Adrian really is but when he was faced with the actual demon unleashing his dark side, even he, shivered.

Adrian looks out of the window ever since he got in the car. He didn't turn to look at Devon even once. The truth is, he feels like his wall had crumbled. This wasn't even part of the plan. Devon wasn't a part of the plan. Then, why? "My studio," Adrian simply answered.

Why did he do that? That was close. He almost really rip those men's hearts out. Not that it will do much difference. Just that such impulsivity will reduce the fun of the hunting game. But, back then, his anger was rekindled. The thought of how his mother, as a mistress, and him, as an unwanted deformed child, was treated made him depressed and angry. But Devon...

A thought emerged in his disturbed mind... He turns to look at the boy. Everything about the teenager is perfect. Smooth skin, a sharp jaw, thin lips, handsome face, beautiful pair of eyes. Only that small scar on one of his eyebrows cast a dark look on him. This boy can still be saved, Adrian thought. Like those children that he had rescued. He can still rescue Devon. Devon is not as young as those children. But he is pure. In the eyes of Adrian, at this moment, this teenager is pure. And his desire to 'save' him blooms.

Devon notices Adrian watching him for a while. His eyes were still on the road when he asked, "why are you looking at me?"

Adrian smiles. "Will you believe me if say...that I feel like 'eating' you?"

Devon chuckles aloud. "Sexually?" He asked.

"No," Adrian simply answered. One of his hand reaches out to touch the side of Devon's cheek. He caress it with the back of his hand. "Literally," he added.

Devon gulps and turns to look at Adrian for three seconds to ensure the seriousness of his words before he turns back to look at the road. His hands clench the steering wheel a little. He then smiles helplessly. He knew that Adrian wasn't joking. "I believe you," he answered. His voice shuddered although he tried to sound calm.

Adrian smiles to himself and pulls his hand back. The aftertaste of the warm skin from Devon's cheek lingers.

"But take it slow," Devon suddenly said. "I'd want to spend more time with you first."

Adrian didn't say anything. His eyes are still attached to the sight of his future prey.

"Adrian, you might not be aware of this. But I'm the only one that loves you the most," Devon stated flatly. Adrian wanted to tell him to stop. He wanted to say how superficial it all sounded. He wanted to tell him that love is not to be taken as lightly as that. But he has no idea why he couldn't say anything in the end. He didn't believe those words but somehow, his heart aches a little. Something he had not felt ever since his soul were taken away. Some kind of a distant memory. Devon wasn't supposed to have a soul as well. Can he loves without a soul? Can he himself understand love without a soul?

Devon's heart hurts more than it should. He wanted to spill out all of the truths at that moment to the only person he ever truly loves. To the person he traded his soul for. But he couldn't. He wished that Adrian would remember who he really is. But he only has time. And time is all that he can give Adrian. Once his time runs out, once their time runs out, ... he dares not to think of what will happen then. If Adrian can accept him, remember who he is, and forget all about his selfish desires, how beautiful would that be? But he knew deep in his heart. That is just his fantasy. Reality will not be as beautiful.

*Author's Note: I actually cried when I dived into Devon's heart because I'm the only one who knew his secret at the moment. There's a beauty in sadness which not many can understand. There's a beauty in deformity that not many can see. But I hope as you all read on, you'll open up your eyes to these ideas. -K
