Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 5. The Pain of Betrayal I
As if just back to their senses, Rose and Angel turned at the door. But both of them showed different reactions, Rose looked shocked and panicked. While Angel still maintained his composure with only a bit of trace of surprise on his face.
"I-It's not what you think," said Rose in panic and embarrassment as she quickly distanced her hands away.
Meanwhile, without listening to what Rose said, Claire bent her head down awkwardly.
"F-Forgive our impudence, Your Majesty. We will wait outside." Without further ado, she retreated politely and closed the door.
Rose only could stiffen without being able to say anything as her eyes looked at the closed door.
After seeing Rose's panicked face, Angel turned his head away and bit his lip, desperately trying to hold back his laughter. He didn't expect Rose to panic because of this, considering he was the one who panicked after she kissed him five years ago. Indeed this was something new to him since he had not had a romantic relationship with any woman before. But since they were getting married tomorrow and this was a normal thing that couples did so he didn't panic about this.
She turned to Angel in annoyance since it was obvious he was trying to hold back his laughter.
"You don't need to cover your laughter, Your Majesty," she said in a sarcastic tone, hoping Angel would stop laughing.
Instead, Angel burst into laughter.
Rose looked at him with a frown in annoyance.
"You!" She stopped her sentence since she was lost for words. He should be explaining to Claire and the others that it was just an accident yet he didn't do anything and just laughed. Although... She could deny his laughter reminded her of the first time she'd seen his smile five years ago. With this expression, rather than a ruthless cold king, he looked like an ordinary man.
"Pardon me," said Angel as he managed to get his voice out and swallow the rest of his laugh.
His voice broke her reverie.
"They are your loyal subjects. You should explain this misunderstanding to them," said Rose with the same annoyance.
"That's unnecessary. We're getting married tomorrow, remember?" said Angel in a calm tone.

Rose could only be silent. Indeed that was what a normal couple should do, still, she felt off about this. They parted at Scarlet Stone Castle as enemies and he brought her as his political prisoner yet she ended up as his wife. Although their marriage would bring great benefits to Zephyrus and Euphorion, it was her kingdom that got the most benefits from this.
She was about to retort but Angel spoke again.
"Besides, we can provoke 'them' faster with this. They will be more impatient to kill us."
"Who do you mean?" said Rose with a frown. Her eyes turned serious. She knew what Angel meant by 'them' was not Claire and the others.
"The rebel," said Angel with a smirk. His hand took King Eudon's letter from his blazer and handed it to her. He decided to give it since he was sure Rose was curious after hearing his words.
Rose took the letter that had the kingdom of Zephyrus' seal and opened it curiously. Her eyes moved side to side as she read the letter. The letter explained all the deals between King Eudon and Angel, including King Eudon's promise to give his ability to support Euphorion, both in medicine and poison if Angel had succeeded in cleaning up Zephyrus' rebel to its roots. It was the main reason for their marriage. And from the letter as well as the stamp on the letter, Rose knew it was a genuine letter so Angel didn't lie about it. After reading the letter her helpless feeling replaced her annoyance and disappointment. In contrast to her ego and naive self five years ago, she could understand why her uncle was so depressed to take this step. She did not deny that the rebels had made Zephyrus' people live in fear and suffering. The rebels separated families, killed innocent people, robbed them and took their families... Even though Rose and King Eudon had tried their best to get rid of them, the rebels were like an unstoppable plague.
She turned her gaze to Angel.
"How far has this plan gone?" Indeed this was not something pleasant since, in the end, her family had to rely on other royal families to solve their internal problems, but this was the best available way right now. Although... They had swallowed their pride for this.
"We have succeeded in identifying the traitors, executed some of them and destroyed their hideouts." Angel's hand took out some documents from his blazer and handed them to Rose. That was the rebel list documents, complete with their position, involvement, their crime and their current status.
Impatiently, Rose took those documents and read them. She couldn't hold her curiosity and surprise since it was just around a month since Angel took over Zephyrus yet he already did this far.
"Although my army has destroyed all of their hideouts, I've assigned Frost to search the others just in case," added Angel. With his Black Devil Army and his Corruption of Mind spell, it was not a problem for him. Still, he knew there were some unknown hideouts, so he had to be careful.
Meanwhile as Rose opened the document the first name on the list made her eyes widened in more shock than when she found out she was going to marry Angel tomorrow.
