Death Can’t Sleep will be ending soon. There are about 30 more main chapters and 20 side stories. I will be completing translating the main story as I want to focus on one novel at the moment and finish it soon. ???? After this, I would be completing ‘Your Eternal Lies’ which has more 12 or 15 chapters remaining.

Happy reading!

Amarion held her chest with gloved hands.

Their words made sense. The Black Mountains were an unknown land that humans had not fully explored, and the only people who lived there were Northerners, who were constantly fighting. So, if there was an abnormality in the mountain range, it was most likely due to a problem in the North.

Carlz continued quietly.

“But as I said, rumors are just rumors. As you know, it is so cold in the North that pigeons cannot come and go, and it is difficult for people to find. So I couldn’t get any further information. It is possible that all of this is nonsense.”

“But since you cherish your hometown so much, I had to tell you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.”

Catalina remarked sadly.

Amarion barely nodded her head. She understood why they hesitated.

No matter how much information they had found, it was still just a rumor.

But she couldn’t let it go as mere rumors.

Amari was her land.

Her identity.

She forced a smile.

“Thank you for letting me know, both of you. Did you tell Victor?”

“No, we thought you should know first.”

Catalina added without hesitation.

“And honestly, I don’t think the Grand Duke should ever know.”

Carlz looked down at her words. But Catalina continued coldly.

“Even if the rumors are true, he will never send her back to her hometown.”

“…My master is not that cruel, my Lady.”

“Your sense of reality fades at times like this, Sir.”

The two glared at each other.

“Did you forget what the Grand Duke has done? He locked her in the castle, making sure she didn’t meet anyone. You probably haven’t even heard of the Welch family.”

“His highness has been ill for a long time. He had just recovered from his illness, so of course, he was uneasy.”

“Is it normal to keep your wife locked up? I can’t believe you condoned such a thing.”

“…Victor is my Lord, my friend. We stay by each other’s side to survive, so how could I oppose him?”

“A servant who does not give advice is a weakling, Carlz Denion.”

“Loyalty without friendship is just a deal, Catalina Cataleon.”

Their faces became even colder. It was a conversation that was difficult for Amarion to understand. The two of them suddenly turned towards her with anxious eyes. Carlz immediately lowered his head.

“I’m sorry, Madame. Our fight must have looked ugly.”

Catalina took a deep breath.

“Please forget this, Amarion. We’ve fought over this topic more than once.”

“It’s okay. And actually, I…”

‘I don’t think Victor should know.’

Amarion swallowed the words that were about to come out.

It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Victor. His words that he would listen to whatever she wanted were really sincere.

But he was afraid to send her out into the world, as much as he cherished her. He was so nervous when she left for subjugation inside Morte, so she couldn’t imagine how he would react to her wanting to go to the dangerous North. He was sure to object no matter what.

Carlz assured her.

“I won’t let him know if you don’t want me to.”

“…You don’t have to. But aren’t you obligated to report to your master?”

“It is your land.”

The knight took a deep breath.

“Amari is your home, and it is your right to take care of it. We’ve only borrowed Madame for a while. I don’t know about you, but Leonard and I have always thought that.”

“Carlz…”

“So decide for yourself.”

“Yes, we will help you no matter what you decide.”

Amarion looked between Carlz and Catalina silently.

Joyful music could be heard wafting out of the banquet hall, but there was only silence on the terrace. Blocking out the noise of the party, she closed her eyes and fell deep into thought.

* * *

Amarion couldn’t even remember how the ball ended. When she woke up, she found herself lying in her bedroom, wearing a negligee.

“What’s wrong?”

Victor’s strong arms hugged her from behind. She looked around the room silently.

Almost all of the weapons in the bedroom were now gone. The place where weapons were once hung was covered with beautiful tapestries, and there were also vases that were not displayed before in fear of them breaking. The bedding was soft, and her body had been massaged with perfume oil. It was a picturesque and peaceful sight.

She squeezed her eyes shut and lied.

“…I’m just sad that the banquet is over.”

“Didn’t you say you wanted to finish it quickly and rest?”

“My friends are leaving. And Catalina…”

Victor hugged her silently. Even though she was not small, his arms always fully encompassed her, keeping her safe. He whispered soothingly.

“Lady Catalina travels all over the continent, so she will come back to the North soon.”

“…”

“Or we could go down to the Capital. I will do whatever you wish.”

He hugged her tight. He didn’t even know what exactly was going on. Her heart sank because of his comfort. She dug into his arms.

This moment was so perfect. There was suffering, no sickness. Her beautiful husband cherished her, and the locals showed her undeserved respect that made her heart flutter.

So now she really wanted to forget everything and stay in the castle.

With Victor, with no worries.

Eat what she wanted and go where she wanted to go.

She might be able to retire early for a knight.

She wanted to…

She swallowed the feeling welling up in her chest and struggled to sleep.

* * *

In the end, she didn’t sleep at all.

Early in the morning, she finally gave up on sleeping and snuck out of the bedroom. She cautiously entered the dovecote* and wrote a letter on rough paper.

[*E/N: A dovecote is a shelter with nest holes for domesticated pigeons.]

After tying the note to a pigeon’s leg, she held a map in front of its beak.

“Deliver to these people.”

The pigeon flicked its head as if it understood, and quickly flew out of the window.

If they were not far away, she would get a reply tomorrow.

She quietly walked out into the hallway.

The morning sunlight poured in through the window. It was time for the servants to wake up. Maids passing by the hallway looked at her and bowed their heads. Tiredness was evident on their faces. It was inevitable after they welcomed and took care of the guests.

Seriously, she would have to give them a vacation for attending to everything. If she gave out gifts and salaries, everyone would be able to relax.

She slowly opened the bedroom door.

To her surprise, Victor was already awake.

“Marion, where have you been?”

“I went for a walk.”

He slowly blinked his sleepy eyes and pulled her wrist. His warm body felt good, so she gently hugged him.

Victor caressed her cold arm.

“You are cold.”

“Did you forget that I came from a place twice as cold as Morte?”

“Still, cold is cold.”

He mumbled and pulled her into bed. He pulled the duvet up to her neck as if she were a child, then put a thinner blanket on top. He smiled, satisfied.

She muttered as she buried herself in the sheets.

“I’m not a child, Victor.”

“I know. But it’s my guilty pleasure to look after you.”

He kissed her forehead. His face in the light of the morning sun looked angelic.

“How happy I am that you stay in my castle. Every day is like a dream.”

“…”

“We’re going to stay like this forever. Do you think that’s stupid?”

He smiled brightly.

Her heart throbbed.

She liked him. He was skilful, he was kind, and he was willing to protect her. His desire to always be by her side and take care of her were not much different from her desires.

So she kept hesitating. If it were before, she would have made the decision without any hesitation, but she couldn’t stand not being around him…

“Try to sleep a little longer. It’s still early.”

Victor kissed her forehead gently.

Amarion closed her eyes in his arms, drifting off to sleep.

Days in the castle began when the sun fully rose. After changing, Victor and Amarion saw off the departing guests.

Most of them said they would stay in a mansion near Morte and attend another banquet in a few days. The people who met at this banquet were going to hold another because they were sad to part like this. It felt as if the social season in the North had just begun.

All of the ladies asked Amarion to visit them, but she declined with a troubled smile. Fortunately, they didn’t seem disappointed.

“We ask for nothing, your highness. You’re still newlyweds, so of course you want to be alone.”

“But do you have time for us next spring?”

The ladies, including Count Helvant, laughed out loud. The Countess of Oxburg shook her head and departed, and the Count of Fidelburg left with a curt goodbye. Amarion smiled bitterly and nodded her head.

Numerous carriages departed from the castle. In the meantime, Amarion finally found the person she was looking for.

“Are you leaving now?”

Catalina, who was giving instructions to her workers, turned to Amarion. With her blue-black hair tied high, she was dressed as a merchant, wearing a shirt and leather pants.

She nodded her head.

“Yes. I plan to return to the Capital as soon as possible.”

“Okay…”

Amarion slurred her words. She was so sad that she didn’t know what to say.

There were still many stories she wanted to hear.

‘If Catalina leaves, will we ever meet again?’

As Catalina examined Amarion’s expression, she said thoughtfully.

“We will see each other soon. Julianna’s wedding is soon, right?”

Amarion nodded. If Leonard and Julianna got married, Catalina would visit. They would be able to meet again in spring at the latest.

‘But, will I still be in Morte then?’
