If you desire to see a person perform to the best of their abilities, just threaten to take away something that they truly treasure.

The entire class waited for the morning classes to start as the bell rang.

We were mostly waiting for the dreaded news of the mid-terms and if one of us would be waving bye bye to this school before the end of the first term.

Finally, Miss Aiko made her appearance, dressed in a tan business suit with her dark brown hair in a high ponytail.

She didn't seem angry, but she was calm and collected.

I guess we either made it without losing anyone or she just accepted that our class is currently hopeless.

She made her way to the front of the class and called for everyone's attention.

After clearing her throat

*Hem*

She then proceeded to play invisible drums by rapidly moving her two index fingers in the air, which is supposed to symbolize a drum roll.

"It seems that none of you will be expelled today, so congratulations. It turns out the student who received the penalty actually cut it pretty close. Their final grade was 60% on the dot."

The entire class started to look around at each other, trying to figure out who was the student.

Minori turned to me, "Whoever that person is, they cut it too dang close."

I put my head on the desk.

"Eh, maybe the lucky soul tried his/her hardest. Afterall, they did get 80% before the 20% penalty was applied."

Minori folded her arms and said, "You may be correct there."

Genji shot up from his seat.

"This calls for a celebration!"

Miss Aiko replied, "Woah there, buckaroo. You guys aren't out of the woods yet. If you place last or fail to get any points in the next class clash, then one of you will be expelled randomly, but the person with the lowest mid-term score will experience the biggest risk of it."

Genji sank down slowly into his chair in defeat.

Yogi nervously tapped his feet when he heard that. I wonder how he will lead our way out of this one.

Minori said to Miss Aiko, "This just feels like our class is being targeted by the board of directors."

She's right. There is only one person who could possibly be pulling the strings for that to happen. Which means he is aware of my class's recent failures and issues.

-----------------------------------------------------------Yagi Akira POV (The School's Principal -----------------------------------------------------------

The night before

"Thank you for coming out at such a moment's notice, Yagi. I know that being the principal is strenuous work."

I laughed at that statement.

"It's not an issue at all, Mr. Kaneko."

Mr. Kaneko and I actually share the same first name, which led to us becoming great friends during high school.

He wore an all-black business suit with his brown hair slicked backwards.

Mr. Kaneko looked at me and picked up his wine glass, which was filled with red vintage wine.

"How is my son doing in there?"

I took a sip from my wine glass and replied, "Which one? If it's Yuu, then he is excelling as usual now, but Dante.."

Mr. Kaneko's happy expression changed a little bit to annoyance.

"Has he been meeting expectations?"

I nervously cleared my throat.

*Hem*

"Well, his class is currently in last place and his midterm score hovered right above failing."

Mr. Kaneko slowly put his glass on the white table cloth and sighed.

"Of course he would perform like this. I should have expected it. Maybe I should withdraw him from the school and continue the home school route. "

Another voice cut into our conversation.

"I don't think that will be necessary."

Both of us turned our attention to the source of it.

It was Makoto Maruyama. The chair of the board

He is the head of the board of directors, which is in charge of the school.

Mr. Maruyama took a seat with us at the table.

Mr. Kaneko shifted his dark brown eyes to Mr. Maruyama and said, "Thank you for joining us."

"I can't pass up hospitality from my billionaire friend, can I?" laughed Mr. Maruyama.

I chuckled due to that statement, "Well you hit the nail on the head with that one."

Mr. Kaneko then said to Mr. Maruyama,

"What do you mean when you say that it won't be necessary?"

"Well, I believe all you have to do is put Dante in a position where he has to act. Currently, his class is sitting in last place, so if you strike at it from that direction, you will put pressure on him."

Mr. Kaneko stroked his beard, "From what I gathered, Dante purposely scored low on the penalty exam, so he would be the one taking on all the risk, but him getting 60% is expected if that is the case. He has a habit of scoring 80's during important examinations because that correlates to a B and the word bored starts with the letter B. It's just the way he tells people he is currently bored in his situation."

Mr. Maruyama replied, "Well, it seems you have him all figured out in that aspect."

"I have had to deal with that type of behavior for 7 years now. So I am aware of the meaning when it comes to some of his actions."

I said to Mr. Maruyama, "Are you planning to let your daughter Kaede Maruyama enroll in school?"

He laughed when he said, "She has been contemplating it, but I think I will keep her in the sister school, Saikoyo Prep, for the time being."

Mr. Kaneko replied, "Hmm, maybe I should have him transferred there instead if he fails this task."

Mr. Maruyama then turned to the both of us and said, "This is the situation we'll set up."

------------------------------------------------------------------Dante Kaneko's POV--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bell rang, and the students flooded out of the class.

It was as if they were eagerly waiting for it.

I slowly got up and picked up my bag from the side of my desk.

Minori said to me, "Do you have any plans now?"

Well, unless you count going home and trying to drown myself in the sink as plans, then no, I am free."

"That's a little bit dark."

I sighed, "What do you want to do?"

Minori pondered for a moment, "I heard that the ice cream shop on the campus is pretty great."

I squinted my eyes at her, "Is this going to be my treat again?"

She did a little twirl, like a young girl excitedly showing off a new dress.

"Why yes, my good sir."

Sigh. Why is she being so cute right now?

I exhaled loudly and said, "Fine, you win. I'll get you some ice cream because I am pretty sure you have some other nefarious things you want to discuss with me while we walk there."

She punched me on my left arm and said, "I don't appreciate the attitude."

Heh? Is the ice queen calling me out about my attitude? She definitely rolls her eyes and sighs at me at least 100 times per day.

We both walked out of the classroom and towards the school's food court.

The hallways were busy because classes had just recently been dismissed.

We navigated through the massive crowd of students and finally made it outside.

The sun hit my face at 3 p.m. For some reason, it wasn't too hot. Possibly due to the fact that I just spent the majority of the day in air conditioning.

Making our way to the ice cream shop.

Minori asked me, "Are you participating in this upcoming class clash?"

I kept my head straight as I walked forward, "I don't really see the point, but if push comes to shove, you will have my assistance where needed."

Minori let out a fake gasp, "OMG you're finally cooperating with me. Today must be the opposite day."

"If so, then I have to say that I like you."

Minori quickly pinched my arm and replied, "I don't appreciate those types of jokes."

In a slightly pained voice, I replied, "You know, you can tell me that without inflicting damage on my poor body."

After passing a few stores and students from our class,

We entered the modern ice cream shop.

The layout of the inside is basically chairs and tables to the left, with the ice cream being on the right side, aka that's where you place your order.

There is a nice atmosphere going on, with potted plants and even a cute ice cream cone mascot.

Both of us stood in line and waited our turn.

About 5 minutes later, we were at the front of the line.

The cashier is dressed in all white, with a cone-style hat on his head.

"Welcome to Big Scoop. What will be your order today?"

I gave Minori a look that indicated to her that she could go wild in the store and wild is what she indeed went.

I believe this is the first time I have ever seen someone stack seven different types of flavored ice cream on top of each other. The first thing that came to my mind wasn't, how is she going to eat all of that? It was more along the lines of, how is that even going to taste?

The male cashier then looked at me and said, "Will you be having anything, sir?"

I looked at the options, " I'll take 3 scoops of pistachio ice cream in a cup please."

The cashier nodded and scooped out the ice cream.

After handing us the ice cream, I handed over the money.

It felt like a hostage exchange.

Shortly after, both of us took a seat in the store.

Minori shoveled ice cream into her mouth without a care in the world.

I just observed her and then said, "If you keep this up, then you may be the first person in existence to die from brain freeze."

She pointed her plastic spoon at me and replied, "You still owe me for that last clash class. Don't think I fully forgave you for that yet."

I sighed in defeat, "By all means, go right ahead, you bottomless pit."

Hmm, maybe I'll treasure certain moments like this when I finally look back on high school.
