A few days later...
Deoxys stared at the key in its hand. It purchased the Fairy Key from the auction and not so long after, the cultists attacked to try and steal this exact item. The pokemon sighed, it stored the key away and decided to use it later, right now there were some things that Deoxys needed to arrange.
With the introduction of pokemon, the activity known as pokemon battling came along. Under Deoxys's instructions, King Arthur built various pokemon fields around the kingdom. At first, people don't know what to do with them, but with some demonstration from Deoxys's associates, the citizens couldn't help but be curious as well.
Eventually, people could be seen battling with their pokemon and it also became a popular entertainment for people to watch and pass their time. However, with battling, there were obviously cases where pokemon would get injured.
The most common way to heal the pokemon was to use a healing potion or visit Deoyxs personally. Therefore, Deoxys determined that a more efficient way of recovering a pokemon's health was needed. Back in the pokemon world, Deoxys discovered that humans have facilities for healing or restoring pokemon's strength called the Pokemon Centre, maybe Deoxys could create one here too?
Deoxys left the pokestore and wandered around the kingdom. The pokemon was specifically searching for a pharmacist store or any shop that sells herbs or medicine. With Deoxys's assistance, the pharmacy could easily create medicine that specifically helps with pokemon, they could also retrieve the needed ingredients much more easier than Deoxys so the production rate will naturally be high. Eventually, Deoxys stumbled upon a store that was fairly close to the Pokestore.
The store seemed run down as if the store have been there for a long time. Deoxys opened the door and it creaked in response.
"Ah welcome!!" A cheerful voice greeted Deoxys.
The pokemon saw a young woman with lush green hair smiling happily, unbefitting the shop's shabby appearance. Her eyes seemed to widen when she observe Deoxys more and more: "You're that super powerful wizard, right? The one that saved this kingdom?!"
Deoxys nodded and the woman squealed with excitement. She vaulted over the counter and hurriedly clasped Deoxys's hands: "Can I have your autograph!?" She asked.
Deoxys hesitantly nodded and the woman handed gave Deoxys a pen and paper. The pokemon followed her instruction and wrote its name on a piece of paper. Her eyes sparkled before regaining her composure.
"Ah sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet! My name is Emily and I work as a pharmacist!" Emily introduces herself, "Anyway, how may I help you!"
"I want to collaborate with your store," Deoxys got straight to the point and stated in a calm manner.
"Huh with us?? Why?" Emily exclaimed.
"Are you already familiar with the concept of pokemon and battling between trainers?" Deoxys questioned.
Emily shrugged: "Kind of? I heard of pokemon and I thought that they were amazing, however, I don't have the cost to buy one for myself." She muttered dejectedly: "And for battling, I have occasionally seen people doing it when I was on an errand?"
Deoxys nodded: "As you know, pokemon sometimes get injured during battling, thus I wish that your store could be a place that nurses those pokemon back into health."
"Ah really!? I would love to help but I need to ask grandpa first, he owns this place after all," Emily explained.
With Deoxys approval, Emily hurriedly went to the back room and brought an old man: "Grandpa, someone important came to see you!"
The old man has a long white beard, a hunchback, and a walking stick. However, despite his frail appearance, his clothing couldn't hide the muscle and scars he had accumulated throughout his lifetime which lead the pokemon to believe the man was originally a fighter.
"Deoxys right? I've overheard the conversation you had with my granddaughter,"
"So do you ag..."
"I refuse," The old man's brows furrowed, and immediately denied Deoxys's offer.
"Eh? Grandpa, please think it over! This could be a great opportunity for us!" Emily yelped.
The old man shook his head: "I'm sorry Emily, but I have my own reasons,"
Emily: "But!"
"No buts!" The old man growled, "No matter what I won't accept!" Without a single explanation, he stormed off.
Emily flinched at her grandpa's sudden outburst and looked at Deoxys apologetically: "I'm sorry, Grandpa wasn't usually like this, I hope you weren't disappointed..."
Deoxys shook its head: "He has the right to decline, I held no grudge against his decision," The pokemon turned around and left.
Next Day...
"Huh, why are you here again?" The old man asked with a raised brow.
"I wish to ask you again. Would you like to reconsider?" Deoxys asked kindly.
"I already said no!"
The day after...
"I SAID NO, WHY ARE YOU HERE AGAIN?"
"I wish to purchase this herb," Deoxys explained.
The old man begrudgingly took Deoxys's money: "By the way, do you think you could give my offer another thought,"
The old man didn't respond and tossed the bag of herb at Deoxys and gestured the pokemon to leave. This continued for a week as Deoxys kept bringing the topic back on whenever it got the chance and the old man's patience was at its limit.
He reported the situation to the guards but technically Deoxys wasn't harassing him and was being a normal customer. The military also can't really do anything to Deoxys for obvious reasons. The old man even went as far as banning Deoxys from the store but Emily would let the pokemon in. Finally one day, he snapped.
"ENOUGH, what do you want from me?!" The old man howled.
Deoxys pointed at something behind him, he turned and saw the bag of medicinal herbs on the shelf: "Why do you need so many healing herbs for?!"
"My child has a cold," Deoxys replied.
Deoxys could hear the old man's teeth grinding in rage: "You need that much medicine for a mere cold??"
"Yes,"
The old man sighed tiredly and sank back down onto his seat: "You win...."
Deoxys: .....
The pokemon wasn't expecting the sudden change of mind. Within its calculation, the man should have cracked after one more week. With Deoxys silently staring at him, a blue vein appeared on his forehead.
"You win dammit!" The man shouted: "However, with one condition!! Beat me in a game of chess and if you do, I will agree to work with you!!"

"Chess?" Deoxys repeated questioningly and the old man placed an old wooden chessboard on the counter, "Do you know how to play?"
Deoxys shook its head and he smirked. The old man explained the rules to Deoxys and the pokemon nodded in understanding: 'Hmph, you fool, I will defeat you and make sure you never come here again!!' He sneered to himself.
Emily, who was also by the counter, saw this and quickly whispered into Deoxys's ear: "Be careful! Grandpa is unbeatable in this game, he's super smart!"
However, unbeknownst to the two humans, as soon as Deoxys grasped the rule, the pokemon mind became a supercomputer and have already generated every possible scenario that it could win.
[A/N: Fun fact, after one move 400 scenarios exist. After the second move, there are 197,742 possible games and after the third move, there are over millions of possibilities!]
'Ah, he's so dead....' Mew muttered with pity.
"Okay let's start!" The old man said with a smile, "Emily, go fetch us some tea," He said with a voice full of confidence.
Emily nodded and left the room as they began to play.
Clak
Clak
The sound of pieces hitting the wooden board echoed across the room. With the old man's every move, Deoxys would immediately respond in a way that he doubted the pokemon was ever a beginner.
"Why do you want to work with my shop so much?" The old man suddenly asked in the middle of the game.
"Because you have the most suitable location," Deoxys replied.
"Then can't you use your power to take it straight from us then?" He questioned suspiciously.
"Because that was inhumane,"
Old man: "Hmph, and harassing me every day is??"
Deoxys shook its head: "I don't believe being sociable is counted as harassment. Check,"
The old man moved his king away but suddenly Deoxys's question make him freeze on the spot: "Why are you afraid of pokemon?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." He refuted Deoxys's claim.
"Every time I bring up the topic, I sense fear and anger within you," Deoxys said, "So wh..."
"Because in the end, they're all beasts! They won't hesitate to kill us and their power was unrivaled. What makes you think that they could be freely tamed?!"
"Tell me, how sure are you that pokemon haven't killed someone yet??" He said with a snort.
Deoxys was silent and the pokemon couldn't refute his claim. The man sighed tiredly as he moved the chest piece: "My son and daughter-in-law, they were slain by monsters. Emily was so young back then so she barely has a recollection. I manage to avenge them by slaying the monster but I gain no satisfaction from revenge." The old man spoke with a tired expression, "The pain is something you can't understand,"
"I do understand," Deoxys answered and the old man's eyes widened
"Because of my weakness, I failed and lost someone very dear to me," The pokemon said and glanced up from the chessboard: "But it's meaningless to continue drowning in sorrow since there are still people we have to protect," Deoxys stared at the back door where the sound of Emily humming while brewing tea.
"That's true..." The old man mumbled tiredly: "Ah," He muttered when his piece fell for Deoxys's trap.
"However, pokemon aren't just mere beasts," Deoxys explained: "They are as smart as us, no, probably smarter. They can feel the same emotion as us, joy, anger, sorrow... That's why, they're more than just pets, they're our companions and partners."
"Is pokemon that important to you?" He asked.
Deoxys nodded: "They are something that could bring happiness to everyone, who wouldn't want that?"
"Is that so..." The old man sighed and he tipped his king over: "I've lost, like we agreed, I will accept this offer," He answered reluctantly.
"You won't be disappointed," Deoxys smiled.
"Okay, I'm back!" Emily said while carrying a tray with snacks.
However, she was surprised that the game already finished and her grandfather was completely annihilated.
"Eh... It's over but I made this much..." Emily whimpered and slumped her shoulders.
The old man laughed: "Then I hope you stay for a bit longer, I couldn't finish everything myself" He said while glimpsing at Deoxys.
Deoxys nodded: "Gladly,"
A week later...
"Grandpa, the supplies Miss Deoxys gave us are here!" Emily yelled as she carried a crate into the store and a group of Chansey followed close behind.
"Grandpa?" Emily called out and entered the living room in the back.
There she saw her grandfather in full concentration while staring at the chessboard. Opposite him was a large ape covered in purple fur and holding a green fan.
"Ru..." Oranguru grumbled and picked up the knight and took the man's rook.
The old man smirked: "Seems like you have fallen for my trap!" He declared before instantly checkmating the pokemon.
Oranguru huffed and the old man laughed. He saw Emily staring at him and frowned: "Is there something wrong?"
Emily grinned and shook her head: "Grandpa seemed to be laughing a lot lately,"
"Do you like it?" He asked.
Emily nodded: "That's what mom and dad would've wanted as well!"
The old man smiled: "Yeah... They would..."
