Chapter 42 – Coma
The sound of sirens rang on the street.
Soon the street was blocked and while the rescue team was moving back and forth, the police controlled the crowd.
Although it was too late, Zhao Zichen was still able to react in time and even though the collision could not be avoided, the danger was kept to a minimum.
Zhao Zichen and Peng Mengyin were only slightly injured while Fu Zhihuan who was in the passenger seat had fallen into a coma because he was sitting nearest to the collision point.
“Officer Zhao, don’t worry. Follow us back to the hospital first to check on the condition.” The rescue team advised.
Zhao Zichen pursed his thin lips tightly and watched as the unconscious Fu Zhihuan was lifted on a stretcher. Then he walked to the police officer and said.
“Make sure to check on the black car that ran a red light and changed direction suddenly. It was obviously, done on purpose.”
“Before Prosecutor Fu became unconscious, he told me that the accident may be related to the case he is still going through. So it’s better not to treat this as a traffic accident, understand?”
After the car accident, Fu Zhihuan was still conscious for a brief period. No matter how one looks at it, the car accident should not be an ordinary traffic accident and most probably it was targeted at him. This matter could easily be connected to the wealthy lady who used illegal means to try and make him give up on initiating a prosecution some time back.
So Fu Zhihuan had repeatedly told Zhao Zichen that the police must not treat this incident as a simple traffic accident.
After handing over this matter to the police, Zhao Zichen and Peng Mengyin were also taken to the hospital.
The injuries on the two people were not serious and they were fine after receiving a simple examination and treatment of their wounds.
At about ten o’clock at night, the doctor’s diagnosis of Fu Zhihuan’s condition was finally released.
“The patient’s injuries are not very serious, so his life is not in danger and there shouldn’t be any residual effect. But the patient has to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation.”
Only then did Zhao Zichen finally breathe a sigh of relief. He straightened up, picked up the car key beside him, and then said to Peng Mengyin who was next to him.
“Come, little junior sister, I’ll send you home.”
Peng Mengyin said. “Do you need me to stay back and take care of Prosecutor Fu?”
Zhao Zichen: “It’s fine, I’ll come back to watch over him after I’ve sent you home.”
When she heard Zhao Zichen, she did not refute anymore and followed behind him to leave the hospital.
At ten o’clock the streets had become quiet.
Based on the route and distance they were going to travel, Zhao Zichen decided to first drop by Fu Zhihuan’s apartment to pack some personal items and bring them to Fu Zhihuan in the hospital. At the same time, he would inform the little girl in Old Fu’s home and then only send Peng Mengyin back.
When the car came to the entrance of Mingchen Garden, it was stopped.
The security guard glanced at the unfamiliar license plate and said. “Cars without passes are forbidden to enter.”
Fu Zhihuan’s home was located in a high-end apartment building and all vehicles needed a pass to enter or exit.
But Fu Zhihuian’s car was damaged and Zhao Zichen was not driving his own car. Presently, he was driving a car borrowed from a friend who lived near the hospital, so of course, he did not have a pass.
Zhao Zichen rolled down the car window and said. “Comrade, I’m just going in to get something and will be out soon.”
The security guard shook his head. “Sorry, this is our rule. Cars without passes are forbidden to enter.”
Peng Mengyin who was sitting in the back seat was silent for a while and then she suddenly said.
“Mr. Zhao, if you have something to pick up, I can help you to go up and get it. You can wait for me outside and it will save time.”
It was indeed a waste of time for him to travel back and forth, so after thinking for a while, Zhao Zichen nodded.
“Alright then, there’s a little lady in Fu Zhihuan’s home and she is called Wen Ruan. I don’t have her contact number, so tell her about Old Fu’s situation and ask her to pack and bring down some of Old Fu’s daily necessities.”
Peng Mengyin nodded and took the key from Zhao Zichen. Then she got down from the car, registered her name, and walked into the community.
Zhao Zichen watched as Peng Mengyin walked in, then he found a place to park the car, rolled down the window, and lit a cigarette.
Who is the person who holds such great enmity against Old Fu?
And……
There was something that Zhao Zichen could not figure out.
Today, that black car was speeding in the direction of the passenger seat with great precision.
And Fu Zhihuan was sitting in the passenger seat which was something that no one could have predicted.

Ten-thirty at night.
With her eyelids drooping, Wen Ruan yawned and her mental state was gloomy.
Earl seemed to sense her depressed mood, so he nestled obediently beside her and brushed his fluffy tail against Wen Ruan’s legs as though it was comforting her.
She sat on the sofa hugging her knees with her eyes lowered.
The food has been reheated several times and the message she sent was like a stone that had sunk into the deep ocean…….without any response.
She could not contact Fu Zhihuan at all.
It was only at this time Wen Ruan suddenly realized that she did not know anything about him.
And just when her emotions were about to reach freezing point, she suddenly heard the sound of the key turning at the door.
When Wen Ruan heard the faint sound, her dim eyes suddenly lit up and the haze just now seemed to have been swept away.
She put down her legs, got up from the sofa, and walked towards the door.
Although she felt a little angry and aggrieved in her heart……..
But if this man gives her an explanation, then she might still be willing to forgive him.
Wen Ruan was still wondering whether the meal that she had reheated four to five times could still be eaten.
The door opened slowly……..
Wen Ruan: “Why are you only back……..”
She stopped abruptly halfway.
A woman was standing at the door.
A woman with long wavy hair, an outstanding figure, and wearing a uniform.
Peng Mengyin looked at Wen Ruan up and down and then smiled and said in a gentle tone.
“Are you Miss Wen Ruan?”
Wen Ruan came back to her senses and nodded lightly.
Peng Mengyin lowered her eyes and said faintly.
“I’m here to get Mr. Fu’s daily necessities. Is it convenient for me to come in?”
Upon hearing this, Wen Ruan’s eyelids trembled slightly.
Women have always been sensitive.
It seemed thousands of thin needles were pricking her heart repeatedly and she felt waves of dull pain and discomfort.
She lowered her eyes and noticed the key in Peng Mengyin’s hand with just a glance.

The key was attached to a metal accessory that she had bought for Fu Zhihuan not long ago after seeing it in a jewelry store. Following that she had even attached the accessory to his car key for him.
At this moment, it was in the hands of Peng Mengyin.
Wen Ruan did not speak and just turned sideways to make way for Peng Mengyin.
Peng Mengyin smiled and thanked her. Then she looked at the furnishings in Fu Zhihuan’s apartment and said.
“Are you Mr. Fu’s tenant?”
“Um…….”
Tenant…….
The word seemed to be like a chasm spanning across the top, wiping out all the ambiguity that had sprouted before.
Peng Mengyin’s tone was soft and casual and every sentence sounded magnanimous and easy-going.
She walked into Fu Zhihuan’s bedroom and while packing the things, she chatted casually with Wen Ruan.
“Mr. Fu has always been very kind. Although he looks cold, he is actually very patient.”
Wen Ruan lifted her eyes and did not speak. After a long while, she suddenly asked.
“Where has Fu Zhihuan gone?”
“It’s best to wait for Mr. Fu to tell you himself.”
Peng Mengyin shook her head with a smile. After she had finished packing, she stood up and walked over to stand in front of Wen Ruan.
“In fact, Miss Wen Ruan need not wait for Mr. Fu to come back. You should deal with your matters.”
Upon hearing this, Wen Ruan raised her eyes and looked at Peng Mengyin in front of her.
There was a smile in Peng Mengyin’s eyes and every sentence she said sounded very gentle but it felt like every word had a special meaning.
Wen Ruan suddenly laughed and then said lightly.
“If you have something to say, then say it directly. There’s no need to beat around the bush.”
Peng Mengyin: “I don’t understand what you mean.”
Wen Ruan: “My meaning is that you’re here to pack things and not to talk to me.”
When she heard this, Peng Mengyin pursed her lips and chuckled. Then she bowed her head and apologized.
“Sorry, I didn’t think this over carefully. Then I’ll take my leave first……Miss Wen Ruan should rest early.”
After speaking, Peng Mengyin turned around and left.
The door closed gently.
Wen Ruan stood in the huge apartment and did not move for a long time.
She squatted down and buried her head in her knees. A long time later, she took a deep breath and took out her phone to open the dialog box with Fu Zhihuan.
It was still showing the message that she sent over to him.
Suddenly, she was overwhelmed with some inexplicable grievances.
But at this moment, she could not figure out what was her aggrieved standpoint.
Suddenly she remembered the Tao Xun she saw last night and realized that whether it was just now or last night, she really, really wanted to know the answer.
However, she did not have the right to ask him – ‘What is the identity of that person?’.
She suddenly felt that pursuing someone so hard was indeed very tiring.
It was like putting all her emotions on someone and she would feel happy due to some minor things but would also feel sad and painful for some other things.
It was time to stop.
Wen Ruan took a deep breath and gave Xie Yanchi a call.
The music on Xie Yanchi’s side was deafening and chaotic as if there was some kind of party going on.
“Hello?!”
Wen Ruan’s voice was a little husky.
“Mingchen Garden, 1201, 13th Floor…….come over to pick me up now.”
Xie Yanchi was stunned for a moment, then with a frown, he stood up and looked for a quiet place.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
Wen Ruan cleared her throat but he could still hear the trembling in her voice.
“I want to stay at your place for a few days.”
“Okay.”
Xie Yanchi hung up the call but the frown on his face did not relax.
A while later, he lowered his head and sent out a message.
~ ‘Check what happened on Fu Lu’s side.’

The elevator door opened.
Peng Mengyin did not rush out to look for Zhao Zichen. She turned her head around to look upstairs and then let out a light laugh. Leaning against the door of the building, she took out a cigarette from her pocket and lit it up.
She lowered her eyes then frowned as she looked at the clothes she was carrying and her expression was a little cold.
Fu Lu, you indeed have the great fortune to escape with your life!
The cigarette that was pinched between Peng Mengyin’s fingertips had burned halfway through and she chucked it angrily into the trash bin. Following that, she took out a box of chewing gum from her pocket and popped two pieces into her mouth as she continued to walk towards the gate of the community.
As soon as she walked out of the community gate, she saw Zhao Zichen.
Peng Mengyin called out to him. “Senior Brother, I’m back!”
Zhao Zichen turned his head around and frowned when he did not see Wen Ruan.
“Why didn’t Wen Ruan come?”
“She is asleep. I didn’t wake her.”
Peng Mengyin smiled helplessly and then handed the things to Zhao Zichen. Then she opened the door and got into the car.
“Why not wait until Mr. Fu wakes up before telling her? A girl will surely feel sad when she finds out that the person she likes has gotten into an accident.”
Zhao Zichen thought about it and agreed with her, so he did not ask any more questions.
“Okay, I’ll send you back first.”
“Thanks, Senior Brother.”
