Leonze reached the door where he heard the sounds earlier. Now, it was silent. His hand was shaking as he grabbed the door handle. While hesitating, he quickly opened the door. There was nothing moving. It was just a dark hallway, with dead spider-like creatures everywhere.
"Did they attack each other?"
He continued to walk along the dark hallway. He held a makeshift torch from what he could cobble up with from the room he landed at earlier. He was still passing by dead monsters. After a while, he saw some light ahead and ran toward it.
---
The giant spider concentrated its attacks on Kryllo. By using its two front legs, it kept on trying to crush him. Kryllo was using his bow to repel each attack while standing his ground.
Jaegar then jumped upward and kicked the spider on its back, pushing it down to the floor. Brittanya grabbed the wall and took a large part off of it, leaving a huge hole.
"Heavy Stone-wall Magic Attack!"
She threw the piece of the wall and it fell on the head of the now lying down spider. It stopped moving completely.
"The Archer's Den will hang your head if they ever see you using your bow like that again."
Jaeger stared at Kryllo while he shook his head in disbelief. Kryllo was now holding a battered bow.
"It's… broken..."
"We'll just need to buy you a sturdier one next time."
Brittanya tried to console him as she put her hands on his shoulder.
"I'm telling you, that's not how you should use a bow."
Jaegar decided to move things along. He walked toward another hallway which was on the opposite side of where they came out from.
"We should go back to looking for—"
The spider abruptly stood up. The piece of wall lying on its head flew in the air. It then moved one of its legs and swung it sideways to attack Brittanya, sending her flying toward the wall. The wall made of stone bricks crumbled on top of her.
Then, the large spider jumped upward and stuck to the wall. It started spraying webbing directed at Jaegar and Kryllo. Jaegar tried to jump and get out of the way, but his legs were still caught by the webs. He fell to the ground on his back. He got stuck to the floor due to the webbing covering his arms, body and legs.
"Don't just stand there; run!"
Jaegar pointed to the corridor they came from.
"I'm stuck… as well..."
Kryllo looked at his feet that was covered in webbing.
"Damn, I think it knocked out Brittanya."
Jaegar looked at the stone rubble that covered up Brittanya.
The spider was slowly crawling down the wall. Seeing as its preys could move, it was moving in a way that it felt sure it had food to eat.
Brittanya suddenly burst out of the rubble while shouting.
"Ah, I'm not out yet!"
There was some blood running down her face. She then started picking up the stone bricks and threw each one with force at the spider.
"This is my 'You'll Regret Throwing Me to the Wall' counter magic!"
About four to five large stone bricks hit the spider, and it was enough to make the spider fall to the ground again. While on the floor, the spider was slowly trying to get up.
When Kryllo saw this, he looked at the arrow he was holding, and then threw it straight to one of the spider's eyes. The eye that was hit burst and blood spewed out. It caused the spider to shriek again, then quickly climbed up the wall up to the point where the three of them could no longer see it.
A relieved Jaegar closed his eyes for a moment, with a smile on his face.
"At least you know what an arrow is for."
---
After Brittanya helped both Jaegar and Kryllo remove the webbing from their bodies, the party continued moving forward inside the fortress. They were still unable to find a way to go down.
"I'm starting to think there are no stairs going down."
There was slight irritation in Jaegar's voice.
"Then where did he fall down to?"
Brittanya kept on looking around in different directions.
"I don't know. And we have to worry about that woman with the mask, too."
Jaegar clicked his tongue loudly.
"Who… is she…?"
Kryllo was now walking behind the two, since he doesn't have a torch anymore.
"That's something I'd like to know. I wonder if she's looking for the same thing as our esteemed client."
Jaegar raised his hands beside him and shrugged his shoulders.
"You think she believes in fairy tales, too?"
Brittanya looked at Jaegar.
"There are a lot of crazy people in this world, for sure."
Jaegar furrowed his eyebrows while he smirked.
"Oh… look..."
Kryllo pointed forward. There was light in front of them at the end of the hallway they were in. They all looked at each other and hurriedly went toward the light.
"Hey, we're outside."
Brittanya was surprised upon reaching the light.
"Where are… the stairs… going down…?" Kryllo was scratching his head, then looked around. All he saw were trees and the mountains.
"It seems that we're at the other side of the fortress."
Jaegar was also surveying the surrounding area.
"We didn't see a way down, so where is Leonze?"
Brittanya was facing the exit they just came out of.
"Should we… go back… inside…?"
Kryllo looked at Jaegar.

"No, let's just circle around outside and go back to the entrance."
Jaegar pointed at the path they should take.
"He might have been able to get out on his own. Waiting at the place we entered would be the next logical move for him."
"Oh, just like when my mother told me to wait at the town square fountain if I ever got separated from her when we go out."
Brittanya's eyes widened as she smiled when she reminisced her past.
"That's the common thing parents say to their kids. Well, according to what I heard. Not that I would know anything about parents…"
Jaegar stared at the distance.
"Kids? She only just told me that last time I was home."
"And when was that?"
Jaegar stared at Brittanya.
"A few weeks ago?"
She smiled at Jaegar.
"You still get lost at your age?"
"Let's go back to the entrance!"
She turned her back at Jaegar and started to walk away.
"Don't let… her lead…"
Kryllo grabbed Jaegar's shoulder.
"We'll get… lost…"
---
"He's not here. What should we do next?"
Brittanya looked at Jaegar. The party was now back at where they entered the fortress earlier.
"I checked the hole where he dropped from. I couldn't see the bottom, which means he fell pretty far down there."
Jaegar crossed his arms and closed his eyes. He went silent for a while, then opened his eyes again.
"Let's go back to Dosael and request for a search party from the Knight's Order."
"Why don't… we just look… for him…?"
Kryllo was now crouching on the ground. He looked up at Jaegar.
"This fortress is still under their jurisdiction. It's better we let them handle the search."
Jaegar put his right hand under his chin, pondering about something.
"Think about it. What if we see a dead body? We might get accused of being the ones who killed him. If we let them search and they find his dead body, they wouldn't suspect us. Because we did ask them to search for him. It wouldn't make sense for the killers to ask someone else to look for the person they killed."
"Is Leonze dead?!"
Brittanya was shocked.
"I'm saying hypothetically!"
"Oh, I see. From what you said, I thought it was real."
She let out a huge sigh as she heard that Leonze wasn't dead yet.
"It just seemed like you have experience in killing and hiding it."
Her tone was playfully teasing him.
"Well…"
Jaegar averted her gaze. Kryllo noticed the somewhat painful expression on Jaegar's face.
"Let's… go then…"
Kryllo stood up and dusted his pants.
"Okay, we better hurry."
Jaegar had a stern look, trying to hide the feelings that was evoked by memories relating to his past.
---
The sun was still up when they arrived back near Dosael. As they became closer to the city gates, they saw someone standing beside the entrance.
"What took you guys so long?"
It was Leonze. He was leaning on the wall by the large gate. Brittanya ran toward him and hugged him tightly.
"I thought you were dead!"
Brittanya lifted him off the ground. He blushed while being hugged tightly. Then, after a while, Leonze started to grimace and turn more red.
"I can't… breathe…"
"Oh, sorry."
She let go and dropped him.
"So, how did you get out?"
Jaegar raised his eyebrow as he stared at Leonze taking a few deep breaths.
"We tried to look for a way down, but didn't see anything that would lead us there."
"After I fell down to a large room, I just followed a pathway that led me outside to a lake area."
Leonze finally stood up straight and looked at Jaegar.
"A lake, huh? We didn’t see anything like that from where we got out. It must have been at a different exit…"
Jaegar crossed his arms and looked at the ground.
