Chapter 1: Prologue

Underneath the stories of magic and superpowers, there are always events that act as the source for these myths and legends alike. Many tell the tale of individuals with powers that rise above all. They’re named ryukei; the humans that possess supernatural abilities. One such legend remains the most highly regarded. The Legend of the Ryukei. 

 

【During the days where the earth resembled a more solid structure of land, Shraia, the celestial god of the stars, took pity on earth. Shraia’s will manifested in the disguise of the sun and moon. He used the sun’s daylight to allow humans to fulfill their wildest desires, and he used the moon as a median for the energy that gave the humans their newfound abilities.

 

Not all humans wanted the energy of the moon, the vast majority feared Shraia and his mysteriousness. At this time, humans were split into clans, each their own group and related by blood. Humanity soon discovered that the energy of the moon could be used for anything they could imagine, the possibilities were endless. 

 

It wasn't until a woman, named Kun, who belonged to no clan, used the moon’s energy in a way that hadn't been thought of before. She used it to take the form of various animals, her favorites being the lion and the serpent. Clans began to envy her abilities, their methods not properly recreating the beauty and elegance of her power. Kun was a kind-hearted individual, she allowed the clans small fractions of her abilities.

 

However, she didn't give them the full extent of her power. For every clan leader that begged and pleaded, she gave one animal. The leopard, seagull, tarantula, whale and many others were given to those who requested. But, she saved the forms of the lion and serpent for her lineage only. Kun's children did not possess the entirety of her power; and just as she had hoped, they took the forms of the lion and the serpent. 

 

Not every clan desired the form of an animal, others simply desired the rush of having the power itself, so they did not plead with the woman. The clans that took no animal-like forms began to divide quicker than those who did. A particular group, the Dailai, found a pleasure in the effects of the moon on their blood and began to crave the sensation whether it be their blood or another’s.】

 

Throughout millennia, the validity of this legend has scarcely been doubted.
