“You know the rules, right? Load only one bullet into the revolving cylinder containing six cartridges and shoot it through your head one by one. The person who is shot first loses.”

Farren, who knew nothing about Russian roulette, opened his eyes wide as soon as he heard the explanation.

“My lady! You can’t accept such nonsense!”

“You’re such a loud kid.”

Sein pulled out a pink bullet from a small box.

“It would be fun if these were real bullets, but unfortunately that’s not the case, kid. If the heir of a noble family dies in my house, what would happen?

“…If they’re not real, then what are they?”

Following Madenna’s question, Sein loaded the pink bullet into the revolver.

As soon as it was loaded, she pointed it straight at her chest and pulled the trigger.

With a bang, a pink liquid with the consistency of paint splattered across Sein’s clothes.

“Well, as you can see, this is a child’s toy. Bluffing is needed sometimes to keep the tension.”

“I see.”

“Would you like to try? If you win, I’ll become a dog that licks your toes like I said. But if I win….”

“What if you win?”

“Buy a company at the price I ask, and never come to see me ever again. Oh, and of course, I’ll ask for an amount that’s possible for you, so don’t worry.”

Those words were no different than telling her to be deceived by a fraudulent scam.

In addition to that, there was a risk that the opportunity of hiring Sein would forever disappear.

Medenna nodded with a casual expression.

“Okay.”

“Are you full of confidence now? What if I pretended to load toy bullets, but then actually load real ones?”

“No way. You don’t seem like the kind of person to be stupid enough to do something like that in a situation like this.”

“Damn, I don’t know if that is supposed to be a compliment or not.”

Sein chuckled and loaded a fresh pink bullet into the revolver.

The revolving cylinder rotated with a squeaking sound.

It was impossible to tell with the naked eye which chamber the bullet was in.

“Oh, but one thing before we begin. Let the mage kid face us with his back turned over there.”

“Are you doing this out of fear of him using magic?”

“Of course. If he uses projection magic, he can see where the bullets are.”

“I see. Then this bet would be fair.”

“Also, the little boy can’t move or talk because he might give it away.”

Medenna pointed clearly towards Farren.

“Farren, I’ve decided not to use any magic on this bet. Do you understand? Stand over there.”

“…All right.”

Farren, as Medena instructed, retreated and stood facing the wall with his back turned.

“Whoa, it’s been a while since I’ve played Russian roulette. I’m trembling too. So shall we start? We’ll spin the revolver and whoever the barrel lands on willshoot first.”

“Okay.”

Sein placed the revolver on the table and spun it with vigor.

The revolver spun and then slowed down. It stopped spinning and landed on Medena.

“You start.”

“Okay.”

The odds were 1 in 6.

Medenna, who was expressionless, picked up the revolver and pointed it at her temple without a moment’s delay.

Click.

The trigger was pulled, but nothing came from the revolver.

“Okay, it’s your turn now.”

Medenna slid the revolver towards Sein.

Sein grabbed her chin and pondered for a moment, before asking, “…How old are you?”

“I’m 17.”

“That’s really strange…. you don’t look like a 17 year old girl.”

“……”

“There’s no way a 17-year-old acts like this.”

Medenna narrowed her eyes for a moment, but she didn’t answer the question.

“Is your hobby wasting time with useless chatter?”

“Alright, a short-tempered girl.”

As soon as Sein grabbed the revolver, she pulled the trigger without hesitation.

Likewise, nothing came from it.

They repeated the round, with Medenna, and then Sein again.

Finally, there were only two chambers left to go through.

“It’s a 50/50 now, right? If you’re scared, then can I shoot first?”

“No, you don’t have to.”

Medenna grabbed the revolver and immediately fired.

Sein stared at her with a mysterious smile.

Medenna stared back, meeting Sein’s gaze.

And….. click.

At the same time as the trigger was pulled.

“Bang.”

Medenna smiled broadly, mimicking the sound with her mouth.

No bullet was fired.

 “…!”

“Now, there was only one chamber left. Shouldn’t the victory have been decided with that?”

Sein got up from her seat.

“…This is absurd! That little boy must have used magic!”

After the match ended, Farren slowly turned around and tilted his head.

“I just followed the lady’s instructions.”

“What……!”

“I just did what she said. She won’t use magic on this bet, so I created a barrier.”

Sein snapped the cigarette she was holding.

“……This little boy. At this age, how can he create a barrier?”

“It’s because he’s such a good student.”

Medenna spun the revolver and shot at Sein.

However, the bullet that was supposed to explode from the last chamber did not come out.
