After two days, Cheng Tian finally arrived in Nuoding City in the late afternoon, having entered the local streets as the orange sky slowly gave way to the darkness of night.

With this, he was soon walking along the city's main sidewalks, where lamp posts already lit up the central streets, near the area where there was commerce and much of the local traffic.

While looking around this place in curiosity, Cheng Tian saw the local academy, where young spirit masters newly initiated into the cultivation world could study.

Passing by the external bars of this academy, he saw some children running from one side to the other while employees were doing services in the surrounding area.

But despite observing such a place for a few moments, Cheng Tian did not waste much time and continued his way through the streets of Nuoding City until he found an inn in an area further away from the center.

In that place that looked like a tenement, Cheng Tian quickly registered and took the key to his room after making the payment for one week.

"Well, kid, if you have any questions about our rules or breakfast schedule, you can talk to anyone at the reception." An elderly woman, dressed in black and white, said to him. "Just don't bother old Yimu if he's the only one here."

Seeing this woman pointing in the direction where an elderly man was sitting, shirtless, with his fat belly on display as he slept, Cheng Tian nodded in understanding.

"Ma'am, I have a question." He said, still standing on the other side of the reception of this establishment.

"What do you want to know?"

"I just arrived in Nuoding City, and I don't know this place that well yet. So, I want to know where I can find services for mercenaries nearby... Would the ma'am know something about it?"

"Services for mercenaries, huh?" She looked with interest at Cheng Tian since, although mercenaries were not uncommon, such individuals at the age of this young man in front of her were scarce.

Young spirit masters around 15 were usually busy with their studies in academies.

Even the less talented ones usually did this!

Most spirit masters in the Douluo Continent were not particularly powerful. But if even talented spirit masters at Cheng Tian's age did not have enough power to live as they wished, imagine the situation for even weaker ones?

Well, young people of Cheng Tian's age with ordinary talent usually studied in more humble academies. As for those prominent academies that participated in the Continental Advanced Spirit Master Academy Elite Tournament, these academies represented only the cream of cultivation on the continent.

The reality for ordinary people was far less impressive, with young people studying in academies that were less focused on combat and more on aspects of everyday life in this world.

As such, typically, people like the black-haired young man in front of that old woman would not risk mercenary services. Thus, she was surprised to hear of his interest in such a thing.

But she soon answered him. "Well, if you want a place with services for mercenaries, there is such an establishment downtown."

"Oh?"

"That place is called Tempest Vanguardians. You just need to..." Then she proceeded with the necessary directions for Cheng Tian to get to such a place from that inn.

After she finished giving the address of this local guild, she said. "Anyway, Tempest Vanguardians is open at any time of the day. But young man, I honestly don't know if you will be able to do the quests from that place."

"There aren't many things for people your age there, so I can't even tell if you'll be accepted as a member..." She sighed as she imagined this was another orphan who did not know what to do to survive.

"Sigh! I think you should be in an academy, not thinking about joining such an association." She suggested in a low voice.

"Thank you for your concern and information, ma'am. But that is just what I need." He nodded to her and smiled before leaving with his things toward his room.

He did not have a storage item, while his belongings were in two bags he had bought during his travel days with the family he had recently separated from.

After leaving some clothes and everyday items he had with him in his room, Cheng Tian wasted no time in that tenement and searched for his goal.

He obviously would not do any missions today, but he wanted to register with the local mercenary guild as soon as possible so he would know how to plan for the coming days or weeks.

After a few minutes, Cheng Tian arrived in front of the Tempest Vanguardians building as he finished eating a skewer of meat he had bought on his way there.

As he stopped in front of that building that looked like a large warehouse, Cheng Tian threw away the skewer in a garbage can and walked towards that place.

Arriving near the entrance of this establishment, this young man noticed the sounds of chattering in the surroundings, making him think that he was actually about to enter a bar.

And upon entering there, he indeed found a place that looked a bit like a bar, with many tables around, people talking and drinking in several groups.

But not only were groups of people around, but there were also many murals and local missions, Cheng Tian presumed.

Finally, in a more discreet part of the entrance area, there was a small reception desk with some signs that caught the attention of this young newcomer.

So, amidst the stares of many people in the surrounding area, Cheng Tian approached that place and called out to the beautiful attendant on the other side of a small glass barrier. "Hello, I want to know how I join the Tempest Vanguardians guild. Can you help me?"

Pulling her face from the papers on her desk, that attendant looked at Cheng Tian in surprise, staring at him for 30 seconds without saying a single word. "This..."

"Are you serious?" She asked.

"Yes, I want to join this place to do missions..." He said as he closed his eyes and smiled.

"Well, to join our guild, you must be at least a Spirit Elder. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to do even the simplest guild missions." She explained, getting straight to the main point so this fellow would stop wasting her time.

"Also, our members must complete a mandatory mission before receiving their Tempest Vanguardians mercenary ID."

"We have a name to uphold, so not just anyone can become one of our authorized mercenaries."

"Well, I'm fine regarding the other requirement since I'm at level 32. But what about this mandatory mission? What's that like?" He asked.

"Are you already at level 32?" She put one of her hands to her mouth, not expecting this young man to be so strong.

After a moment of surprise, she regained her composure and said. "About that, actually, there is no specific test." She pointed in the direction of a wall where there were several wanted and service posters. "The test to become a guild member is to complete one of those missions."

"So, as long as you bring proof that you have completed one of them, you will be accepted as a guild member... Oh, I almost forgot. Because this is a test, there is no reward behind this mission since officially you are not one of us."

"Oh?" He looked in the direction of that mural, where he saw some wanted posters of criminals. "Are there any restrictions for the capture missions? For example, would I still pass the test if I eliminate the wanted?"

She looked strangely at Cheng Tian but soon considered that he was probably asking a curiosity question. After all, even if he was talented, he should worry about doing something more ordinary by taking a less difficult test.

She answered him. "It makes no difference whether they are alive or dead. As long as you have some irrefutable proof that the wanted in question has been killed, then it will be fine."

'Then it's easier than I thought...' He smiled internally, liking this initial mission.

That would not directly earn him coins, but in addition to gaining his target's belongings, he could still absorb the spirit rings of such a person. That way, he would win even without Tempest Vanguardians giving him a prize for his accomplishments!

"Do I need anything more than that?"

She shook her head negatively and said. "No. You don't need to do anything now, just choose one of these missions and take the poster with you. Then, once you can complete it, just come here with the proof and the poster, and we'll do your registration."

"Perfect!" He thanked that attendant and went to the place she had indicated. 'Let's see what I'll do...'
