Chapter 247: Fire Talisman

Translator: Atlas Studios  Editor: Atlas Studios

Reality had given Liang Fengyi had a rude slap. However, her curiosity was further aroused about Ling Yun.

She had originally thought that Ling Yun was just a lecherous second-generation nouveau riche. Ling Yun wasn’t quite humble, but she respected that he wasn’t arrogant and had good manners.

Liang Fengyi had seen too many handsome guys like that, so she hadn’t been too impressed by Ling Yun’s sunny disposition initially.

That was the reason she did not get up to send Ling Yun off when he was leaving.

However, after she learned more about Ling Yun from Zhang Ling, her curiosity and competitive nature got the better of her. It was unprecedented.

After a long while, Liang Fengyi smirked as she sat down again and said, “If that is the case, what are you worried about? You should go after him and chase him to your heart’s desire! I support you!”

Liang Fengyi’s right hand clenched into a “you can do it” fist for Zhang Ling, concealing her embarrassment.

“So you will not be telling my parents, right?” Zhang Ling sprang up and confirmed happily.

“It comes with the precondition that you have to still do well in your studies!” Liang Fengyi poked Zhang Ling’s nose, doting on her while pretending to be stern.

“I promise! Don’t worry!” Zhang Ling raised her pinky in a pinky promise with Liang Fengyi. She chuckled and said, “Aunty, before he left, Ling Yun told me that he can cure your ailment…”

Treating any ailment was a very serious matter to Liang Fengyi, so she gave a very direct response. “I will go and visit when his clinic is open. Not for treatment, but to settle some grudges with him!”

Zhang Ling asked strangely, “Settle what grudge?”

Liang Fengyi snorted coldly as her eyes narrowed. She licked her sexy lips and said, “He made my darling niece pine for him so deeply in a one-sided love. Who should I settle this with but him?”

That was such a poor reason. Zhang Ling looked at Liang Fengyi strangely and held her arm.

“Aunty…”

Ling Yun called Tie Xiaohu as soon as he left Qingxi Cuiyuan International Garden and instructed him to go to Qingxi mansion number one.

Yao Rou had already finished her afternoon break and had already been at the clinic for a little less than half an hour. After Tie Xiaohu received Ling Yun’s call, Tie Xiaohu let Yao Rou know that he was on the way and quickly hailed a taxi to Qingxi mansion one.

When Tie Xiaohu reached the mansion, Ling Yun was already there waiting for him on the sofa in the living room.

Tie Xiaohu could hear two dogs barking furiously before he entered the mansion. They were probably the two dogs that Yao Rou had asked him to buy before.

“Did you bring a knife?” Ling Yun asked as he saw Tie Xiaohu walk in.

Tie Xiaohu always kept a dagger with him. He pulled it out immediately when Ling Yun asked about it. The dagger was about a third of a meter long, shiny and sharp.

“Not bad, this is a good dagger. Why didn’t you take it out on the day you fought me?” Ling Yun teased.

Tie Xiaohu only hung his head in awkwardly.

“Have you killed anyone before?” Ling Yun pressed on.

The color left Tie Xiaohu’s face as he shook his head quickly, replying timidly, “No, I swear that I have not killed anyone before, but I have hurt people.”

“Why are you so anxious then? You will have to kill sooner or later. Go grab a chicken and kill it for practice. Drain its blood into this pail.”

Tie Xiaohu felt weird hearing Ling Yun talked about murder so calmly. He shook it off and ran out to kill the chicken.

In the meantime, Ling Yun took the iron pot that he had just bought and brought it to the kitchen. He started the fire and began to boil the medicinal herbs to forge the amulet paper into a talisman.

Under normal circumstances, most people wouldn’t be able to make talismans in Physique Tempering Stage Level 3. However, because Ling Yun could manipulate the spiritual energy in his body, he could make the lowest grade talismans.

Tie Xiaohu had hurt someone, but he had never killed a chicken before. Ling Yun was finished making a large stack of talismans long before Tie Xiaohu killed three big cockerels and drained them of their blood.

Even though the highest grade medicinal herbs were used to make medicinal soup, they were were the best of grade, but they were useless to Ling Yun since they could not produce spiritual energy. The talismans produced would be extremely shoddy.

That’s the best it can get…? Ling Yun shook his head, speechless.

Well, he could only conform to reality.

After Tie Xiaohu poured about half a pail of the fresh blood, Ling Yun commanded Tie Xiaohu, “Bring that sack of gravel over.”

Ling Yun mixed the gravel with ordinary chicken blood and threw the concoction into the iron pot with some more medicinal herbs in. The raw materials gave off a faint scent.

Tie Xiaohu was absolutely clueless about what Ling Yun was doing. He asked, “Big Brother Yun, what are you doing?”

Ling Yun snickered, “Making talismans.”

“Talismans? What talismans?” Tie Xiaohu was puzzled.

Ling Yun turned his head and glared at Tie Xiaohu. “Have you heard of Maoshan Taoist? Have you seen any ghost-catching movie? They’re those things that the old Taoist farts hold and draw on…”

After Ling Yun learned how to use the computer to surf the net, he had been using it to research this world’s Taoist methods.

He explained the vast amount of information he had committed to his photographic memory in a sly tone.

“Big Brother Yun… Y-you know how to make those things as well?!” Tie Xiaohu’s eyes widened to the size of copper bells. He was unable to close his mouth for a long time.

“Keep your eyes peeled!” Ling Yun took the iron pot outside of the mansion and brought it back only after it cooled down.

Ling Yun put the iron pot on the floor, grabbed a piece of talisman paper and a writing brush made with wolf fur from the coffee table, and dipped it into the iron pot.

The writing brush could not be compared with the golden and silver needles. Ling Yun could not transfuse his spiritual energy into it at the current realm he was in, but he was interested in experimenting. He wanted to see if he could make a talisman without any spiritual energy.

Currently, the raw materials he was using were nothing special. The writing brush was ordinary, and chicken blood was the lowest grade animal blood. The medicinal herbs did not have any spiritual energy. He was just using this for practice.

I don’t believe that those talismans drawn by the Taoist priests in this world have spiritual energy transfused into them. Since they can draw them, I am sure that I can do it too!

Ling Yun spread the still damp talisman paper. With the brush in his right hand, he held his breath and concentrated. Under the curious stare of Tie Xiaohu, he drew his first talisman since entering this world.

The results did not matter. If he really could not succeed, Ling Yun still had the mystical brush and the nine-tailed celestial fox!

If he could not even create the lowest grade talismans after using both the mystical brush and the nine-tailed celestial fox’s blood, he could forget about it altogether.

The first one that Ling Yun tried was the Fire Talisman. In a few broad brush strokes, he quickly completed it and nodded approvingly. “Yes, it’s perfect! Not bad!”

He then used his left hand to pick up the Fire Talisman and gave it to Tie Xiaohu. “Take it outside and find a tree trunk. Throw the talisman onto the tree trunk while silently saying ‘Come!’ in your heart, and see what happens.”

The talisman that Ling Yun drew was roughly the same as those drawn by the Taoist priests of this world with a few key differences. The most obvious part was that using the talisman didn’t require chanting some long and troublesome incantation nor invoking some deity. It only required the user to silently command, “Come!”

Tie Xiaohu squeezed the very thin talisman with his large hand, perturbed. He worded his question carefully. “Big Brother Yun, this… will not beckon ghosts, right? Today is the Qing Ming Festival!”

Ling Yun laughed incredulously. “It is daytime! Ghosts only dare to come out during the night! Besides, I am giving you a Fire Talisman. What are you afraid of?!”

Tie Xiaohu continued with his ridiculous line of questioning. “T-this will not explode, right?”

Ling Yun snickered and said, “Rest assured, talismans will not harm their casters. They will only harm those whom you intend to harm. It’s like using the dagger in your hand. Do you understand?”

Tie Xiaohu hung his stiff neck and nodded, injecting himself with some much needed courage. He told Ling Yun, “Big Brother Yun, I—I will get going then. You have to save me if anything happens to me!”

That irked Ling Yun and he gave Tie Xiaohu a deadly glare. “If you continue to nag, I will draw another one and stick it on you! Go now!”

Tie Xiaohu could only turn and walk out of the mansion like a sorrowful warrior on the road of no return.

To think that Tie Xiaohu is such a scaredy cat despite his large size! Ling Yun shook his head disapprovingly.

Ling Yun did not bother further about Tie Xiaohu as he concentrated and started drawing again. It was like second nature to him, and he drew up another ten talismans in no time.

At this time, a depressed yet relieved Tie Xiaohu came in through the door. He looked at Ling Yun and said, “Big Brother Yun, I threw it about seven to eight times. Nothing happened…”

Ling Yun knew that his first try at making talismans failed as he checked the talisman he had given to Tie Xiaohu.

He gave a disapproving gesture. “I will go try it!”

Ling Yun grabbed the ten Fire Talismans, strode outside the mansion, and threw a Fire Talisman randomly onto a small tree, shouting, “Come!”
