Chapter 113 – Daoist Black
Under Guan Yi Yun’s lead, both of them went through the Black Mountain and arrived at its deepest area. An ancient palace was built at this place, and from the way it looked, it had at least a few hundred years of history.
Along the way, Guan Yi Yun told Jiang Chen about the Sect Chief. The Black Sect had set its foot in the Qi Province more than a few hundred years ago, and there had been a few Sect Chiefs. According to Guan Yi Yun, almost no one knew the Sect Chief’s real name, all the previous Sect Chiefs had been using the same name, Daoist Black.
Daoist Black was the strongest man within the Black Sect. His cultivation realm was at the peak of the Divine Core realm, only one step away from the Combat Soul realm. However, there was a huge gap between the Divine Core realm and the Combat Soul realm. Most people couldn’t overcome this gap no matter how much they cultivated. The Black Sect had existed for so long, but there had yet to be a single Combat Soul warrior in its history.
The palace was the Black Sect’s most important place. Normally, only the Divine Core sect elders would come here. Even Guan Yi Yun himself couldn’t come to this place without permission.
Actually, in the Black Sect, there were a group of core disciples. However, there were strict requirements for one to become a core disciple. Not only does one need to be a Divine Core warrior, one must also reach the Divine Core realm before a certain age. Therefore, the Black Sect only had a handful of core disciples. Most of them were training outside the sect, and they would rarely be near the sect headquarters. This was why the Qi Province competition was only for outer circle and inner circle disciples.
The palace was built at the mountain’s waist. Although it was just a single story building, it was still a solemn and grand building.
A black plaque was hanging on top of the palace. Two huge golden words were written on it, ‘Palace Black’. The calligraphy was written so wonderfully that it made anyone who stared at it have a feeling of wanting to worship it.
Of course, the feeling of wanting to worship could only affect those ordinary warriors. There was nothing in the Saint Origin continent that could make Jiang Chen worship it, including the small Qi Province. All this time, Jiang Chen had been the one being worshipped by others.
“Palace Black is the Black Sect’s iconic symbol, it is the noblest place. Junior disciple Jiang, later when you see the Sect Chief, don’t forget to show your respect!”
Guan Yi Yun reminded.
“En.”
Jiang Chen nodded his head.
“Come in.”
While Jiang Chen and Guan Yi Yun were talking, a deep and resonant voice suddenly sounded out from within the palace. After that, the palace door opened by itself.
Guan Yi Yun tidied up his clothes, and with a dignified expression, he walked into Palace Black. As a genius of the Black Sect, Palace Black held a very important meaning in his heart. It was his honor to be able to walk through this door.
Compared to Guan Yi Yun’s anxiety, Jiang Chen on the other side was calm and relaxed. After all, Jiang Chen’s experiences were not something Guan Yi Yun could compare with.
Jiang Chen and Guan Yi Yun both walked into the palace’s main hall. In front of them, there was a big chair, and a man wearing a white robe sitting on it. He looked to be in his forties. Of course, his real age was definitely more than that.
Although the man was sitting on a chair, Jiang Chen could still tell that he was a tall man. His angular face had a majestic expression. This was one of the Qi Province’s big shots, Daoist Black.
He looked different from Jiang Chen’s expectations. He thought that Daoist Black would be an old man with white hair, but in fact, he was a handsome middle aged man.
“Disciple Guan Yi Yun greets Sect Chief.”
“Disciple Jiang Chen greets Sect Chief.”
Guan Yi Yun bowed deeply towards Daoist Black, but Jiang Chen only nodded his head.
“En.”
Daoist Black smiled. He threw an examining look at Guan Yi Yun first, then he stared at Jiang Chen and examined him in detail. However, Daoist Black’s expression immediately changed. This 15-16 year old youngster in front of him gave him a feeling that he couldn’t be seen through at all. With his peak Divine Core cultivation base, he could easily see through any junior disciple, but when he looked at Jiang Chen, he felt like he was looking at a bottomless hole.
With a smile on his face, Jiang Chen didn’t dodge Daoist Black’s vision. There wasn’t even a slight hint of nervousness on his face. On the other side, Guan Yi Yun was incredibly nervous.
Daoist Black nodded his head, then he looked at Guan Yi Yun again and said, “Yi Yun, you’re a precious talent of the Black Sect, are you really sure you want to enter the Inferno Hell? I don’t need to tell you how dangerous the Inferno Hell is. Even if I go there myself, I would encounter danger as well.”
“Yes, I’ve decided.”
Guan Yi Yun said with a firm expression. The decision of entering Inferno Hell was made with huge determination, and he wouldn’t change his mind easily. He wanted to train himself using the dangers of Inferno Hell. Only with this could he become stronger.
“Fine, I admire your bravery. There have been many genius disciples from the Black Sect who have gone to Inferno Hell, but none of them have ever come back alive. I won’t stop you from going there, I only wish that you can be the first disciple of the Black Sect to come out from Inferno Hell.”
Daoist Black said while looking at Guan Yi Yun with a pleasant expression.
“Yi Yun won’t disappoint Sect Chief!”
Guan Yi Yun said as he cupped his fists. This was truly going to be a hellish training.
“Yi Yun, leave us alone, I have something to talk to Jiang Chen about.”
Daoist Black said.
“Yes.”
Guan Yi Yun again cupped his fists, then he left Palace Black.

Daoist Black looked at Jiang Chen. He nodded his head and said, “Not bad, with just your Mid Mortal Core strength you were able to kill Li Wu Ling, an Early Heavenly Core warrior. Although his foundation was unstable, ordinary men wouldn’t have been able to kill him. If my memory serves me well, you were still an Early Mortal Core warrior during the Qi Province competition.”
“That’s right.”
Jiang Chen didn’t deny that.
“Jiang Chen, you don’t seem to be afraid of me?”
Daoist Black asked with great interest.
Hearing the question, Jiang Chen smiled, “Why would I need to be afraid of Sect Chief? I am a disciple of the Black Sect, so obviously Sect Chief wouldn’t harm me, why would I need to be afraid?”
Jiang Chen’s reaction was calm and relaxed. There were no signs of nervousness at all.
‘This guy has a calm attitude and presence of mind, he doesn’t show any signs of unease. Besides, he has a dignified appearance and an innate aura of supremacy, I can foresee that he will have a limitless future. A genius such as this is the future hope of the Black Sect. His talent and potential is not any weaker than Nan Bei Chao’s.’
Daoist Black was shocked. He thought of Jiang Chen rather highly, he had never seen a Mortal Core youngster with such an attitude, Jiang Chen’s reaction did not fit his age at all. He was just like a phantom who had lived for more than a thousand years, calm and relaxed.
He was the Black Sect’s Sect Chief, and every single person of the Black Sect, from the novice disciples to the sect elders would behave respectfully when they met him. Even a Divine Core sect elder would feel hints of nervousness when in front of him. However, Jiang Chen only had an indifferent attitude.
“Good. Jiang Chen, I really appreciate your talent, and that’s why I asked you to come here. I heard you have a fight with Nan Bei Chao one year from now... Do you have any confidence in this fight? Nan Bei Chao is a peerless genius, and he is unrivalled within the Heavenly Core realm, and he might break through to the Divine Core realm at any time. Although you have marvelous talent and potential, your cultivation base is still too weak. You only have one year, and you are still at the Mid Mortal Core realm, how are you going to deal with this?”
Daoist Black asked. He had a great interest in this one-year fight agreement between Jiang Chen and Nan Bei Chao. Also, because Jiang Chen had become a disciple of the Black Sect, his battle with Nan Bei Chao would directly affect the reputation of the Black Sect.
As for whether or not Jiang Chen was genuinely joining the Black Sect, Daoist Black wasn’t worried about it. There were a total of four big sects in the Qi Province, and aside from the Valley of Happiness, Jiang Chen had offended the Burning Sky Pavilion and Heavenly Sword Sect. The Black Sect was the only place he could go.
“I have my ways; one year is more than enough.”
Jiang Chen shrugged with a confident look.
“Good! You just need to cultivate with all your effort. The Black Sect will never run out of resources, but, you’ll need to compete for most of the resources. No matter how big of a genius you are, you will only be able to grow under constant competition.”
Daoist Black said.
“Disciple understands.”
Jiang Chen nodded.
“Alright, Jiang Chen, you can go back now. I’ll give you a special privilege, from now on, Palace Black’s doors will always be open for you. If you encounter any questions regarding cultivation, you can come here anytime and look for me.”
Daoist Black said. This was the first time in the history of the Black Sect that a promise like this was made. Palace Black had never opened its door for a disciple from the outer circle like this. Being able to receive guidance from the Sect Chief himself was a dream for many disciples.
If any of the Black Sect disciples knew about this, they would be extremely envious.
However, too bad, Jiang Chen could only laugh at Daoist Black’s words. Does the previously greatest Saint need a little Divine Core warrior’s guidance? Was this a joke?
Without being rude, Jiang Chen could simply give Daoist Black some advice, and he would benefit hugely from it. It could even make him break through to the Combat Soul realm in a short period of time. This was something incredibly simple for Jiang Chen to do.
Of course, Jiang Chen wouldn’t give Daoist Black any guidance. His reincarnation was his biggest secret, he was not stupid enough to find himself some trouble. Besides, guidance from a Mortal Core disciple to a Divine Core Sect Chief; would Daoist Black really listen to him?
Jiang Chen cupped his fist and bowed towards Daoist Black, then he turned around and left Palace Black. Staring at Jiang Chen’s back, Daoist Black squinted his eyes, and with an indifferent voice he said, “I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
Outside Palace Black, Guan Yi Yun was still waiting for Jiang Chen. When he saw Jiang Chen walking out, he hurriedly walked up to him.
“Junior disciple Jiang, did Sect Chief give you something good?”
Guan Yi Yun asked. With his status within the Black Sect, amongst all disciples from the outer circle, only Jiang Chen could make him talk in such a polite manner.
“Do I look like I’ve gotten something good?”
Jiang Chen showed his hands, then he diverted the topic, “Senior disciple Guan, have you really decided to enter Inferno Hell tomorrow?”
“That’s right, I have made up my mind. I must act or perish; I will gamble my future within Inferno Hell!”
Guan Yi Yun said with a serious expression.
“Be careful.”
Jiang Chen reminded him. He had a pretty good impression of Guan Yi Yun, so he didn’t want to see anything bad happen to him.
“Alright, I’ll need to prepare myself. Junior disciple Jiang, you have wings, so you can just fly back on your own.”
After saying that, Guan Yi Yun flew up into the skies and soon disappeared from Jiang Chen’s vision.
