I woke up with a jolt, trembling violently from head to toe. If not for my wife's warm body clasped around me, I would certainly have burst out screaming from the wild pain throbbing inside my head. Oblivious to my predicament, she slept contentedly, one hand wrapped around my torso, her head resting on my outstretched arm. Her chest rising and falling with slow rhythmic breaths, she looked almost angelic.
Peeling my rather..innocent gaze from Farya's face, I gently unwrapped her arm from my upper body, before replacing ???????? arm with a pillow. "Mm..my pillow..give it back", my sleeping wife groaned, reaching her hands out for my arm. Her cute attempts at trying to get my arm back ???????????????????????? convinced me to go back to her, but her trusty body pillow was feeling a bit suffocated after that weird dream. Walking out of the bedroom, which was coincidentally the same room where I first met Farya, I descended the stairs and headed to the kitchen, located right of the stairway. Quenching my thirst with a glass of water, I headed out the front door as the first rays of dawn began to break through the sky's bleak canopy.
Taking up my practice sword from the shed, I started swinging it in an arc, as part of my daily morning routine.
I had been married to Farya for three years now. I still couldn't believe I had found my happiness. Honestly, sometimes I thought that I was dreaming, that someone like me couldn't deserve such happiness.
Spending my days leisurely, laughing with my wife, eating the food she cooked, helping her with chores. It all seemed so..surreal. To be fair, I didn't know sleeping in the arms of someone I loved could bring so much joy to me.
We didn't have any children..yet, although not for the lack of trying. We were content in our lives though, and it did not matter to us even if we could not have offspring. Atleast it did not matter to her as much as it should have, considering that was the reason for her being in a hurry to get married (something about my core being compatible, although I thought at the time that she was flattering me). I did not want her line to die out though, so it became a constant source of anxiety for me atleast.
Farya was the last thunderborn dragon, or so she believed, but she didn't even know her parents. And apparently, she was the same age as me, and had looked like this for as long as she could remember. I initially pressed her in order to decipher these cryptic revelations, but apparently she was as oblivious as I in this regard. Although I did come to know that an elf had taken care of her until she was driven out by the village elders upon the discovery of her existence.
Mulling these thoughts over my head, I failed to notice my wife sneak up on me from behind. I was yanked back to reality as she wrapped her arms around my torso in an embrace from behind.
"Always a flair for the dramatic with you", I shaked my head.
"Excuse me!, it wasn't me who was trying to train here like some knight in shining armor", she teased.
Seeing my cheeks color, she continued "I ain't a princess that needs rescuing y'know, I'm the dragon that kidnaps the princess", she turned around to face me, her lips upturned in what seemed to be her impression of an evil smile.
"You'll always be my dragon princess y'know?", I retorted. My words had the intended effect as I saw her lips curve into a pout and her cheeks turn a violent shade of magenta.
"You-", she started, probably trying to make a witty reply, when I pulled her into a kiss. She smelled like lavender, her lips having a citrusy taste to them. We stood like that for a couple of moments, as if time had stood still.
If I had died there and then in those moments, I wouldn't have regretted it.
Pulling back, she started squirming uncontrollably, and after a few minutes of watching my training, she ran off to the house under the pretense of ???????????????????????????????????? breakfast.
"What will I do with this girl?", I chuckled to myself as I advanced to archery practice.
After breakfast, I was faced with a Dire situation. A situation that even the best of married men have to face. Yes, I meant ???????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????? for the journey to the nearest town. "Honestly, why do women take so long to get ready" I said to myself, exasperated after waiting for the better part of an hour. She finally came out, looking..I didn't have words to describe it.
I was falling for her all over again.
I didn't care to show it on my face though as I took in her obsidian dress, coupled with crescent shaped ear rings and her hair styled in air bangs, with a single onyx lock falling over her right eye.
"H-how am I looking?" she asked coyly. "You took the breath out of me", I said, unable to control myself.
"Are you sure that you need to dress up so much for a visit to the doctor?", I asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I've half a mind that you intend to charm the doc himself", I asserted, earning a hurt look from her.
"C'mon, you know as well as I that I only do this for you, you jerk-", she started a stream of insults that would have utterly demolished my meagre self-esteem had I not interrupted her.
"Oh come on, I was joking", I soothed her while placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Anyways, we're already running late, mind doing the honors?"I pleaded in a placating tone. Scowling at me, she put some distance between the house and herself before transforming into a life-size dragon.
Covered in dark purple scales, her night-colored body radiated an otherworldly sense of power and magnificence.
"We don't have all day", She grumbled impatiently, urging me to get on.

Climbing onto her back, I whispered "Anybody tell you how incredibly sexy your dragon voice is?".
"You never know when to shut up, do you?" she replied in an exasperated tone, before taking off with a force that made the earth tremble.
Riding Farya(Pun intended) didn't just match my wildest fantasies. In fact, it exceeded them. With her mana shrouding me from the effects of the low air pressure and cold, I was left dumbstruck everytime we flew over the clouds, illuminated by the half visible glob of yellow known as the sun.
"Hold on tight", Farya warned before propelling herself forward at breakneck speeds. Her mana layer was the only thing that kept me alive at this point, or else I was pretty sure that I would have been ripped to shreds by the wind or much worse, fallen off.
Hovering at a single point above the massive sea of grey fluff, she affirmed "We're here".
"My personal radar", I thought as she angled herself so that her head faced the ground, and shot through the swathes of grey into the troposphere below, eliciting a gasp from me as I was awestruck by the sudden change in scenery. Fields of green stretched as far as the eye could see, ending at the snow-capped Kalahar mountain ranges in the North, which acted as the border between Kyria, the human country, and the Dwarven Republic of Daria.
Countless specks of white and brown dotted the landscape, indicating villages, and where the spots were denser , towns and cities. A huge mass of white stood at the center of the Kingdom, showcasing the Capital City of Melvis. Gracefully landing at a spot just outside the Dyre, Farya changed herself back to her human form, her ornamental clothes seemingly unaffected by the changes in her body.
Walking down the dirt path, a wave of nostalgia hit me as I passed by my old neighborhood. Due to it's close proximity to the forest of Dyre, the merchant town of Basil attracted hordes of adventurers, and my house had probably been taken over by a lucky fellow.
Quickly hurrying so as to not draw attention, We reached the local clinic run by a man under the name of Doctor Byers, and his wife.
As Farya underwent a checkup by Mrs. Byers, the doctor hurled a barrage of questions at me about my wife's physical ailments.
Despite her best attempts at trying to maintain a hearty demeanor in front of me, she remained unusually fatigued nowadays, and the faint stench of vomit that came from the bathroom in the mornings was enough to tell me that something was not quite right.
"Could it be that-", my trail of thoughts was interrupted as the doc's wife came rushing out with a smile on her face. "You're going to be a father soon", she announced cheerily.
The ground shifted from underneath my feet as soon as I heard the news. Before I knew it, I was on my knees and tears were freely flowing from my eyes. Unable to staunch my blubbering, I just grinned irrepressibly as my wife stumbled out of the examination room.
It seemed almost unfair that one man could be allowed such happiness.
Drunk on my bliss, I was soon to be reminded of what a cruel and dark place the world really was.
