Chapter 11: Encounter With Misses Right
Jack was feeling both excited and very nervous as he stood in the packed train cart. Soon his life would be changed in one way or another.
Either he’d be getting his inheritance soon, or he’d be Awakening. One entailed the life of a human potato he always wanted while the other brought along hardships and complications that Jack would rather do without.
Standing there he began to blank out a little from his thoughts until a tingling sensation danced across his skin, the same sensation he had felt when James scanned him.
Surveying the area , Jack looked to see what was amiss, but all he saw were a large mob of vagrants holding signs and bad-mouthing the government as they voiced their ideologies upon each other.
Going back to his thoughts, the train soon pulled into a stop where it picked up even more passengers, crowding the already packed cart like a can of fish paste.
Ignoring the new arrivals, Jack shuffled around them to try and go back to his introspection when a soft hand suddenly grazed his arm.
Turning, he unexpectedly came face to face with a very pretty woman wearing a sundress with glasses and a very bookish look to her.
She smiled at Jack before apologizing as she stood close to him, real close. Enough to force him to turn his body away for fear of accidentally rubbing up on her. Soon the train lurched forward causing everyone to stumble a little including the woman behind him.
Jack froze. He could feel something soft squishing up against his back as soft hands wrapped around him.
“Oh! I’m sorry,” The woman laughed lightly, unwrapping herself from Jack.
With a now flustered face, he tried to pretend he felt nothing even as the woman’s head suddenly appeared in his peripheral vision.
“Hi! I don’t know if you heard me, but I just wanted to say I’m sorry for bumping into you,” The woman said, flashing a smile that made Jack’s heart flutter.
“Uh, hi sorry I’m Jac,” he squeaked out in response.
ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE?! Jack yelled internally while maintaining an awkward smile at the lady. There was a tingling sensation coursing through Jack’s body as the woman got closer, and unexpectedly moved to position herself in front of the stunned man.
Admittedly, speaking to girls was never Jack’s forte. He much preferred them to be 2D or 3D at best, having a pretty woman actively trying to talk to him was not something that Jack was actually equipped to deal with.
It’s ok, just remember your eroge games, you’ve trained for this very moment! Jack assured himself, despite the budding panic inside him.
“Hi Jack, I’m Grace,” the woman chuckled, introducing herself. She pushed her big round glasses up before straightening her dress.
“Nice to uh, meet you,” Jack replied, distracted by the curvature of her dress.
Saintess have mercy, Jack thought, shifting his gaze upwards. The woman was THICC, For some reason, the greasy tram cart roof seemed to have become very interesting.
“So what brings you up here? Have you come to join the protest?” Grace asked, leaning on the pole that Jack was holding onto. “I’m from floor thirty, not exactly impoverished but I’m here to support the cause.”
“Uh no, I have my Awakening test to go to.”
“Oh really? That's exciting! Are you going to Shelby or Liu Tech?"
"Um Shelby," Jack replied, engrossed with the woman’s smile.
The pair began making small talk for the remainder of the ride, where they found that they both seemed to have a lot in common.
He was so enamored that he had almost missed his stop. Fortunately, it was also Grace's stop too and she offered to follow along with Jac, keeping him company to his next tram.
Exiting the station the pair weaved through the crowd and talked, mostly about video games, streamers, and the Idol charts. Oddly the woman seemed to have almost every interest he did. Even going so far as to talk about H-games. Was this what was called finding your soulmate?
Was this winning? It felt like winning. The only downside to all the talking was that Jac found it incredibly hard to focus on the woman. Not only because of her voluptuous breasts and curvy body, but also because of the little light particles coming off the woman like embers.
It was very subtle, in fact, Jack probably would have missed it on account of how small the particles were if he wasn't staring at the woman.
"Something wrong Jack?"

"Oh, uh nothing, just admiring your eyes.” Jack quickly replied. Covering up the fact he could see embers wafting off the woman. He didn’t want to spook her, and saying he was seeing colors or seeing things was a good way of doing so.
Jack was inclined to say it was a symptom of awakening, but with James being an actual Awakening and telling him he wasn’t one, he wasn’t going to jump to any conclusions and would wait till after the test.
“My eyes?” Grace paused before smirking, “Most people tend to compliment my body.”
“Oh I mean, don’t get me-” Jack began, but the woman immediately stiffened up as if on alert about something. “Is something wrong? Did I say something?”
“Uhm, no it’s not you, sorry, I just remembered I have to go take care of something!” Grace replied before suddenly bolting. “I’ll catch you later! And Happy Adult Day!”
“Uhm, ok?” Jack called out, now a little sad that misses right was leaving. As he watched her go, Jack began having thoughts of building a life together with this woman. Sharing his money, playing video games, having sex, having babies… Jack managed to cringe from his own thoughts as he realized he was being weird and continued walking.
While he made his way down the street, he thought he saw something out in the distance. Like a little black dot that began to expand more and more each second that flew by until finally, he realized why that was.
It was a person! Wearing ivory white armor flying in the air. The sight of which alarmed Jack as he wasn’t used to the sight of people flying. Several nearby pedestrians began recording the figure and taking photos as the suit of armor got closer.
It paused in the air, seeming to scan the nearby area until focusing on Jack.
Suddenly the figure dropped from the sky and gently landed next to him, forcing him to take a step back.
“Identification citizen.” The Knight demanded, holding out his outstretched hand. Not one to argue with an Awakened, Jack complied, fishing out his ID and putting it in the armored gauntlet.
A buzzing sound could be heard as Jack's ID Card was scanned in the man’s palm. In the next moment the visor on the man’s full-plate helmet split open to reveal a somewhat handsome young man with glowing yellow eyes.
“Oh, Happy adult day Mr. Crosby,” The Knight smiled, handing the card back to Jack. “Have you by chance seen anyone acting suspicious in the area?”
“Uh, no? I just got off the tram cart, I’m on the way to the testing site.”
“Hmm, I see.” The man suddenly got close to Jack, faster than he could flinch and proceeded to do something weird.
He sniffed him. Long and hard.
“Uh, you ok?!” Jack yelled in response, taking a step back as the man’s eyes squinted.
“Was there someone with you?”
“No? I mean there was, I mean, I just met her, is she in trouble or something? Am I in trouble?”
“No… Don’t worry about it. Good luck on your test,” The man said, His visor snapping back into place as he began levitating and flew off.
Jac let out a sigh of relief not realizing he had been holding his breath. Confused about the interaction Jack hoped that Grace was ok. Was the Knight the reason she fled? Did she sense him? No, that would imply she was an Awakened, but… if she was then that could explain the strange glows he saw.
But if that was the case why didn't the man glow? Or James for that matter? Was his mind actually playing tricks on him? Was he going insane? The more he thought about it, the more things didn't add up. Hopefully, he’d have his answers soon though.
A beeping at his arm ripped Jack from his thoughts, because of the interaction with the Knight and his subsequent thinking he was now going to be late!
Jac gritted his teeth and bolted, fishing out his chip to make sure he was going the right way.
The hologram buzzed to life, with the image jumbling around as Jac ran. From the location tracker and his destination, Jack was close he just needed to keep running and hoping that the tram hadn’t left.
Nearly out of breath, Jack turned the corner where had made it to the address. His heart was pounding, as he came to a stop right outside a massive warehouse. Where a number of people were standing around bickering.
This isn’t a tram station!
Jac was about to panic as he thought that hologram may have given the wrong directions. But his fears were soon assuaged by a fedora-wearing blonde man approaching him.
“Hey! You here for your Awakening test brotha?”
