Of everyone there, Kye was the most surprised to see... herself standing there holding Eve’s wrist. W-what?

“It’s okay. Let me take care of this one.”

“You can hear my thoughts, too?”

“Yes.”

“How is this even possible?”

“Soon.”

Elysia smiled at Kye, then scowled at Eve. “Enough of this.”

“You know, I don’t actually need to make hand motions or use magic circles to cast spells.”

“Yes, but you are vain and won’t do so without those steps.”

Eve glared at Elysia. “Cease this. I will do as I please.”

Elysia smiled. “You don’t want this.” She opened her arms and pulled Eve into a warm hug. “I know it pains you, but you must not use your power like this.”

“But, I...” Eve started crying into Elysia’s chest. “I can’t stand to watch them go through this over and over again! Is this not enough?”

“I don’t like it either, but it can’t be avoided.”

A few minutes later, Eve composed herself. She bowed to the group and said, “I apologize.”

Half the group was immediately skeptical, others suspicious. Elysia picked up on that and said, “Please believe her. She’s being sincere.”

“Her? Sincere?” Michelle said. “I don’t be-”

Elysia shook her head in rebuttal. “She loves all of you more than you can imagine. That’s why it hurts her so much watching you live and die. None of you were ever meant to go through that. It was supposed to just be me.” She eyed Kye. “Nobody else. Not Maya, not Adel, not Adara, not Luma... nobody.” She paused, walked up to her other self, and hugged her. “I’m so sorry. I can’t let you have our memories.” Elysia was the same height as Elysia now. Just a few years ago, when she was sixteen, Elysia would have stood several inches higher.

“I don’t understand how this is possible. How are... we...?”

“You can say ‘we’ if you want, but we are not separate. We are the same person, the same soul. I’m only a projection of our immortal soul... of our sealed memories.”

Kye was confused, but more than that... she was frustrated. And it showed. “Why did I seal my memories? You are me, right? Tell me!”

“There are things you cannot know. Please trust yourself. Trust that there is a reason and that it must be this way.” Elysia released Kye and stepped back. “All of you, please take care of us and don’t give Eve a hard time!”

She smiled and stepped back. “And by the way, you need to know this: even you can pray.”

“I can pray? But... who would I pray to?”

“Trust that the prayer will be heard. You need only believe.” Elysia’s eyes glowed a radiant silver, and she raised her hand toward Kye. Suddenly, the two were inside their soul, and only them. “I can give you a quick lesson, since you do not have the memories of that time.”

Kye nodded. “Okay. I will accept any knowledge.”

Elysia smiled. “As we have always said.” Her expression changed from a happy smile to a serious glare. “Now. The power of white. It’s very simple. In the visible light section of the electromagnetic spectrum, what exactly is white light? It is pure light that has not been split into the colors of the rainbow.”

She held out both hands as if to hold something in each. In her left hand, a ball of white light formed, made of white mana. “Pure mana,” then she formed another in her right hand made of aether, “and pure aether. You have not experienced this in a mortal life until now, not even as our strongest incarnation, Elise Arbelle. Kye Akari can become more, but you must learn and grow even more. Elise was an exception among exceptions. It will be extraordinarily difficult to surpass or even match her.”

“And to do that, I must understand the white power?”

“Yes, and more.” The mana in Elysia’s left hand suddenly split apart into seven colors. All mana, and aether, come from one.” She dispersed the individual colored manas and focused on the white aether in her right hand. “You’ve been experiencing silver lately.”

“Yes. I don’t-”

“Radiance. You believed for a long time that our soul is golden, the color of light aether. Now, that is gone and Rei carries the Radiance of Light. You no longer have that, so your soul aether will not be golden. It will be silver. What is silver? It’s... basically a type of gray? I mean, there’s more to colors than just that simple answer, but you know that. If white is the presence of all, what is the absence of all?”

“Black?”

“What is between white and black?”

“... gray? Silver!”

“Yes.” The white aether in her right hand brightened into silver. “Silver is the color of Zen. Not our brother or father, but the concept. Elysia, in other words... us, possesses the Radiance of Zen. There will be a time when you learn to use it properly, but until then... you can pray.”

“But...”

Elysia closed her eyes and clasped her hands together. “By my rite as champion of the patron god, I offer my being as a catalyst of balance.” Kye’s eyes widened as Elysia spoke the prayer. “To the world, I am a beacon of hope. To evil, I am the hand of justice!” Her body was suddenly engulfed in a white light so bright that Kye couldn’t see through it.

After the lesson, Elysia and Kye returned from their soul and met back up with the others. Elysia said her goodbyes to everyone and disappeared, her projection no longer needed. Kye was a little saddened to see her go, but gained much from the experience.

It feels strange to be thankful to myself. She said she’s only a projection of my sealed memories. Are those memories that important? There’s something that we don’t see, that much is clear. She glanced around at her family. They must not know either. They look just as confused. Meaning, it was something that happened when it was just me and Eve at the beginning.

She grimaced as she thought about it. But what could have even happened? Eve and I were all there was. There was nothing else. No worlds, no people, no planets... no matter at all. Was it something between her and me?

As Kye looked around, her eyes met Eve’s, and the goddess shook her head, silently answering her, “No.”

A straight answer? Well, if it’s not that... then why do the others seem so surprised? Sure, they were surprised by my projection suddenly appearing like that, but they were more surprised by what she... “I”... said.

“Love?”

Kye met Alethea’s eyes and saw a clear look of worry in them. “Hmm?”

“Are you... okay?”

“Huh? I’m fine. What’s up?”

Alethea raised an eyebrow. “Of everyone here, should you not be the most shocked? You... your own self appeared! That’s... impossible!”

“Apparently not. I dunno how that happened.” Kye eyed Eve again. “But somebody does.” Eve hesitated, but Kye kept going. “And that’s okay. We don’t necessarily need to know.” Kye walked over and hugged Eve. “It’s okay.”

“Huh?” Eve mumbled. “Elysia?”

“Mmm.”

Everyone looked on in either shock or awe as Kye hugged Eve. “I don’t know why, but something feels nice about this. Familiar even.”

With tears rolling down her cheek, Eve returned the embrace. “It’s been a long time since the last time you did this.”

When Kye pulled away, she smiled at Eve. “Would it really be a bad thing for me to remember? It doesn’t make sense.”

Eve snapped her fingers, and her own appearance changed back to Evelyn’s. The group was back in the dining room. “I’m sorry. I know it doesn’t make sense, but that’s how it has to be.”

Kye sighed and returned to her seat. “At least come around more often. If you’re going to live in Elysium, and more than that, if you’re going to be family, then come around like family. Your name is Evelyn Barrett. We’re only a few generations apart, and lifespans in this world are quite long.”

“Yeah, what she said!” Alethea argued. “We have a good relationship with some of the founders, and my mom is the queen of the empire, even!”

Eve glanced around and received a mix of nods and smiles. Doran added, “Why not? You’re a royal here. How’d that even happen, by the way? You just so happened to take a break here of all places? At a specific time that-”

“Hey, it’s my job to be overanalytical!” Michelle said. She eyed Eve. “Well? Come on, admit it. You peered into the future and knew we’d all end up here, and wanted to establish yourself ahead of time so that you’d have a believable excuse to interact with us.”

Eve smiled and answered, “Remember how you said that I hardly ever enter a world or interact with any of you?”

“Well, that sounds like bait if I’ve ever heard it.”

She shrugged. “Since you are all being so welcoming, I’ll tell you something.”

“Uh huh...”

“I’ve entered every single world each of you have entered and interacted with you in each world at least once. Sometimes, I was more than one person at a time!” Even Michelle was shocked into silence. Evelyn took a sip of her tea before adding on the last bit with an amused grin. “Do you think you can figure out who the other me is in this world?”
