Creak. Creak. Creak.
The bugs in the night made these sounds as they pranced throughout the night, they sang a symphony as they remained the sole viewer of the still world of night. However, that conjure was not true at all.
In a house in the depths of Mondsadt was a girl who stirred in her sleep, her dark hair spread on the bed and went into her eyes. She choked and finally woke up. Her head was covered in sweat as she looked at the purple bed sheet.
"Another nightmare, huh?" The girl breathed as she closed her eyes, calming herself before she opened them once again to reveal forest-blue eyes that shone with a hint of worry.
That girl was Emmy and she had just been awoken from a nightmare. Despite her initial worry managed to compose herself quickly and efficiently.
"Another nightmare. Repeated sick dreams that mess with my sleep. How tedious! Hah~, How many was it? How many times have I woken up to the fact that my parents may be alive and yet in the realm of dreams, they die before my very eyes?
"Is my faith in my parents so insufficient? To constantly worry about it to such a pathetic extent? It's childish and I will not stand-"
"Mhm..."
A voice interrupted the girl's rant and she turned to look at the person next to her. The girl had blonde hair and her face looked a bit troubled by something, most likely a nightmare as well.
Emmy sighed and raised her hand before she placed it on the girl's forehead. A warm aura in the form of blue-silver energy cascaded from her palm and rested on Fischl, it spread around her forehead like water.
Almost instantly the troubled expression on the girl's face evaporated like smoke and the energy from Emmy's hand disappeared. A bit of sweat appeared on Emmy's forehead and the hand she used trembled immensely.
It hurt. It hurt her terribly but...
Emmy looked at the smile on Fischl's face as she slept in the bed contently, a far cry to the still suffering Emmy. But Emmy was fine with this, she didn't need to heal for the moment as such a thing was useless for the current her.
"Moreover the smile on her face is more than enough for me to feel happy," Emmy ran her hands through Fischl's hair lightly as a smile appeared on her face.
Just then a shred of moonlight peeked through the windows to shed light upon the girl's face as she smiled, her features; illuminated by the gentle glow of the moon were soft and mellow. Her eyes seemed to drip water and were filled with emotion.
"Hey Fischl if you were to be with a person forever, who would they be? Would it be your mom and dad? The boys? Or... Or, would it be?"
Emmy hesitated as she looked at the girl as if she was afraid of the words coming out of her mouth and for several minutes opened and closed her mouth like a gaping fish.
Like a fish, Emmy truly felt like she was on land right now.
Finally, she appeared to resolve herself to say the words, and then a swirling breeze rushed through the window, blotting out her words.
On that night, only the moon, Emmy, and a few others heard her say those words but it shall forever be ingrained in their memories.

Clang!
Two weapons, a sword, and a large axe clashed as the two combatants fought for dominance within a large field mired in sweet flowers. One of the fighters, a little girl in white, held her sword parallel to her body and twisted it to the right.
The air twisted as silver-green energy swept through the air to move out of her body in a massive shockwave that knocked the other off their feet. They tried to get up but it was already too late as the girl swung her blade, sending a wind blade toward them.
It severed their head cleanly, and with that, they trembled and turned into black red smoke. The girl breathed and sheathed her sword as a purple portal came next to her. She entered it and disappeared, the field she was in blurred and then dispersed as well.

[Calculating Evaluation!]
Yes, that girl and her opponents were Emmy and a Mitachurl respectively. She was currently going through her weekly evaluation to see how strong she became in the past week and so far it went well.
She was advancing through the ranks quite quickly but Emmy supposed that was because she was still in the lower stages.
The system disagreed.
[It does not. The host will soon discover one of the many reasons [True Combat] users are so fabled in the art of combat. Soon the second stage will be unlocked naturally and then the Host will attain true power.]
"Oh! True power huh? How strong is it? Can I kill a god in one punch or could I be able to lift an island with my pinky? If I can't do those things then I don't I am that strong," Emmy said as she sat in a breakroom in her mind.
It sounded weird but what doesn't when she had a system, right?
[Host... There are more aspects to power than strength or rather a destruction. To attain true power one must harmonize the heart and mind, only then would one become a Lord capable of governing the stars.]
"Do I have to be a good person then? You said to harmonize the heart and mind, so doesn't that mean I would become a nosy do-gooder? I will politely refuse then! How could I allow myself to fall into such deplorable conditions?"
harmony was typically associated with good, which was why she came to such a conclusion. If she was wrong about this then Emmy could only claim she was still inexperienced but until that time comes she would stick to this view.
Emmy thought that people could solve their problems if they were within their ability. It wasn't something that was forced on them but a personal responsibility they must adhere to. Being too overly reliant on others would put one in a position of vulnerability.
She couldn't understand why people would consciously make such a choice or if did they not think of such a thing in the first place.
This was why she was determined to only accept daily commissions in the adventurers guild that mostly consisted of extermination.
Anything else was a waste of time and none of her business.
[No, the system would be incompetent to make the host go against her nature to attain power. The system's purpose is to make the host reach their full potential after all, not the full potential of others but themselves.]
[Furthermore, does the host think she is a good person?]
Although the system's voice was bland and robotic, Emmy felt that it had a somewhat teasing tone to it when those words were spoken.
"No, but you didn't have to say it like that."
[Affirmative. Now displaying the status of the Host and her Evaluation. Which would the Host like to view first?]
"My evaluation would be nice to see," Emmy said blandly. She looked as the screen loaded and then a pleasant expression bloomed on her face. Her smile was enough to rival the glow of the stars.
