"You may or may not like it here, but welcome to our humble meeting room. I hope you will not get used to here, but the situation outside doesn't seem too good." Silhouette approached me. Even with torches of light hitting its face, it is still dark and feels like a two-dimensional object than a third-dimensional one.

I tried to open my mouth to ask a question, but my body didn't react. I tried to move my limbs, but they didn't respond either. I lost control of my body or this thing that resembles mine.

"Sorry for the inconvenience, but before I speak, I don't want you to move. Time here passes much slower than outside, but that doesn't mean I have plans to keep you here too long. Listen to my story, and give an answer for the offer I will be giving you after that."

After half a minute of awkward silence, thanks to my incapability of talking or reacting. Silhouette nodded. "I take this as a yes."

He moved closer to the torch and grabbed it. "You talked with the traitor, didn't you? We heard your talk with her, how she tried to deceive you as she did with many others. I hope you avoided her lies. We, sadly, can only see what you see. The gods are our enemies, and you are one of us, connect the dots yourself. We are Liches, beings of life. The life we know in this world has two faces, the side you were in before coming here and this side, upper and lower. As Lich, we can control and manipulate the life forces of others. Our abilities are much more powerful against the ones from lower, like wives of soulless immortal monsters, ranging from an abomination of magicery and cruelty to the simple skeletons you killed countless of."

He dropped the torch to the ground, and fire spread around the room. "You, my friend, are chosen as a villain in this sick game of a world. You have one role, lose your mind and kill the creatures roaming this planet so the ones they call heroes can claim your head. Your fate got predetermined by the gods. Or it was supposed to be." This talk could be much better if I didn't already know all of that.

A voice raised from the crowd behind the silhouette. "You are going too fast. Give more details first."

"Ah, leave my job to me! "Silhouette roared. "Okay, let me give you a summary then. You are a lich. To be precise, the Lich King, the highest ranking of our kind, like us, is an artificial creature that normally shouldn't exist. You are here to kill things, and heroes are there to stop you. We are old liches before you, and our minds are trapped inside yours, and if you die to that skeleton knight outside, you will share the same fate with us into the next Lich Kings. Now, any questions." He clapped his hands, and I finally got my ability to control my body back.

"First, fuck you. Secondly, I already know all the shit you said, or I at least speculated. Gods got into a fight, and I got spared from the seed of corruption all of you had. Simple as that. Now tell me why I am here if I am not dead." I can finally talk and end all this mindless bullshit. It became too annoying.

Silhouette stopped talking, then suddenly shouted. "No corruption! No corruption. For the sake of all damned gods up there. That's it! We can burn their little playbox into the ground with this! With no corruption, nothing will keep you away from ever growing into the unstoppable force of nature you can become!"

"Hold your horses. I now know you people are the old Liches who came before me, or at least I will act like I trust all of you right now. Why should I give my life for revenge that is not even mine? That stupid goddess asked a similar thing from me." I moved closer to the silhouette. "Why do all of you weird creatures talk as I give two shits about your revenge stories. I don't care if gods are fighting with each other. I don't care if all of you are trapped here. I have been in this forest trying to survive for months. Now I am near the end, and all of you suddenly appeared and began wanting something. I am fucking dying out there, and you talk as if I can do anything in the first place."

Silhouette began laughing like a maniac. "Of course, sorry for my bad-mannered approach. I got a bit too excited. Well, fellow Lich King, you are right. You just met us, and wanting something like that from you is absurd. Now, let's take care of this, you dying to the enemy situation outside." Silhouette's hands began glowing. "Shake my hand and give us control of your body for an hour, and we will use thousands of years of experience we all have to defeat that monster."

I moved my hands closer but glared at him before shaking. "And the price?" I don't think I have many chances right now, but I don't want to strike a bad deal too.

"This is from the house this time, but do not expect the same kindness next time."

I nodded and shook the silhouette's hand.

I see my body behind my eyes. Inside an abbys, I only have a small window, which I can see what my eyes see. I currently don't have authority over my body. I played a desperate hand. Letting myself die or believing these creatures inside my head. If I ever get stuck on here, I will forever carry the weight of not choosing death.

But, for this time, I will watch and see. If I can get my body back, I want to get it back with couple more tricks inside my hand.

My body got up from the ground. The little wolf was waiting next to my bloody corpse, jumped away in shock. But before even looking at the creature. I turned towards the skeleton. He was cleaning his sword but stopped when he saw me standing.

Without hesitating, the skeleton knight took a stance, and his sword began glowing red. Immediately afterward, he dashed toward me at an insane speed. But my body quickly blocked the incoming attack with my sword and pushed the skeleton back.

Skeleton glowed once more and began continuously attacking from all sides. My body keeps up with the attacks since the skeleton dashes away right after the first strike, but I can feel the struggle. Perhaps I wasn't heavily wounded.

After several more attacks, I felt an energy flowing through my body. It is similar to the one I feel when I use the ice spell but much more powerful and deep. It is like comparing a glass of water to a swimming pool.

I don't feel the magic flowing through my body but my body commanding and shaping it through its journey. It is like driving a car compared to being a passenger in one. The results are the same, but the difference is in control over the act.

And mere seconds later, a barrage of ice spikes several times faster than the ones I shot began raining toward the skeleton knight.

The monster sensed the danger and dashed away to increase the distance between us by hiding behind a pillar by climbing on it.

I found this stupid, but my body decided to follow the knight. I put my sword to my back and stopped the magic, then moved to the pillar next to the one my enemy climbed and began climbing it. My fingers pierced through the marble while I moved closer to the roof. But I stopped when I saw the knight hanging on the other pillar.

We both jumped towards each other, with him having his sword in his hand, I thought I was going to lose this, but to my surprise, I managed to grab the sword from its handle and stop the skeleton.

After a short fall, we both hit the ground. I heard bones cracking. Hopefully, it is not from me. Still, the impact was real. I even felt some pain in my mind. Yet, my body still stands up.

I raised my hand, and a purple flame covered the skeleton. The creature began shaking in pain while some of my wounds mended themselves. There is something different in this magic. Unlike that barrage of ice spikes, I can see it. I can see the mana slowly opening into threads, then getting turned into something new. Maybe that is because I am the next Lich King, but I can see how to control the force of life. How to command it, and how to steal it. And perhaps. I can use it.

My body moved closer to the skeleton knight on the ground, removed its helmet, then grabbed it from the skull. I felt the force inside the monster becoming unstable. Seconds later, he stopped moving. Whatever those silhouette bastards did, it caused that monster's life energy to destroy itself. I want to learn this power.

"We held our part. Rest is yours."
