"A Mortal? A Human to boot, come on, you're grasping straws here. At least, before your death, give me a more believable lie."
Lilith laughed, but all the Wechuge showed her was a serious face.
"I'm not lying! I saw his image; I felt the same sensation when I appeared to form a contract in this world. Beside the flowing darkness… he stands in silence, watching over everything below him like some kind of God. I saw his soul move, he turned to me, and in that instant, my body felt as though it was cleaved in half and riddled with holes. The sensation of death felt so real that I almost lost my mind and returned to being a Shadow. The pain was so real it was agonizing, but that is not the point… when he looked at me and threatened me with nothing but a gaze… it felt similar.
"It was like the time… when I was but a mere Shadow before I became a [Knight] and got the ability to make Contracts. It was the same feeling when the cracks of reality formed. It was similar… too similar, and I remember the sensation to this day. The whispers, echoing stronger, urging us to grow. It was similar to that… I am sure he's the legendary [Harbinger]!"
"Harbinger?"
"Yes, the legendary person is said to be the first sentient existence in the wasteland. It is also said that the Harbinger created the Torn Heart."
Lilith… finally heard something that took her interest. To her knowledge, collected from her previous life and the snippets from Alpha's slipups, the Earth was nothing more than a world belonging to something bigger. But never dimensions like this.
'It's clear that he doesn't know anything more about this Harbinger. He may just be their own urban legend. Anyway, something else caught my attention, this guy said about coming to this world for a contract. Does that mean that they used the contract to cross dimensions?'
"Popsicle, I'm impressed; that's actually something I didn't know before."
"Then, you'll let me g—"
"Wait a minute, don't get too ahead of yourself. You are still in the deficit. But if you can answer this, then I'll let you walk out of this cave without a sword on your neck." Lilith wiped her cocky smile; only a severe expression remained, "You mentioned about cracks into realities and appearing in this world via forming contracts. Is that the way you Black Spirits get into our world? Do you whisper your way into our world?"
A crack on Lilith's act appeared in her words. She just admitted that she didn't know something so easily gathered. But… the Wechuge failed to notice. Hearing the possibility of walking away, all that was etched in his mind was the possibility of staying alive. He didn't even think twice before answering.
"No, we need to have Mediums in this reality." The Wechuge explained.
"Mediums?"
"Yes, through a seed planted on a human by the Organizers in this part of the reality, someone would call upon us, and then we will hear their words, asking if we would like to cross over to the other world in exchange for power. Very few Black Spirits refuse the calls of those who hold the Seeds, for only the strong can hear these words.
"The Black Spirits who accept gain access to the mind of a Human they can connect with. We can talk to them through the seed planted in them, and through a contract, an agreement, we can create a bridge of our existence. If we allow them to use our powers, we gain the right to partially exist in this reality. The stronger the deal, the harsher the effects on the flesh, but if the compatibility is high enough, we would be able to give them all ourselves, then mold them into our image, eventually incarnating in this world." The Wechuge explained.
'Sounds complicated… but it's basically a deal with the Devil kind of thing... it sounds familiar, actually, though I can't quite remember where I picked it up from. But, anyway, their whole business is a possession that allows a complete takeover from a medium. It's like a delayed poison from a pill. The more they accept the power, the more they will be affected and controlled.' Lilith got that part down, but there's more that must be delved into.
'He said something that's not entirely to my liking, "Through a seed that is planted on a human by the Organizers in this reality" learning someone is putting something like that in others shouldn't shock me in a world where they treat those unlike them their worst enemy, yet, here I am.
Lilith had no qualms about doing inhumane tactics. She was well-versed and used gory images to gain a tactical advantage, but that's where she's different from the others. She only ever goes so far when it has something to do with the conflict.
Torture to a Soldier, a Spy, a Leader, she would do without a moments' notice. The battlefield was unforgiving. Lilith knew they would do the same to her, or worst, if the situation was reversed. She learned to be cunning and cold-hearted.
However, she still felt disgusted by those who do such heinous actions, 'But then again, I don't know the whole story. But, all that I know right now is someone found a way to harness the powers of the Black Spirits. If what this guy said is true and they are here on Earth, by some secret that even someone like me who is neck-deep in the underworld, didn't even know, then—'
Lilith slipped a look over at Dhampy, the only person she didn't know anything about. An SSS-Class Hunter, one of the very few in the world, 'Well, at least I have a lead now.'

Lilith had to throw away the thought and rationalize her situation.
'Anyway... if what he said is true about an organization, and I haven't been able to get a whiff of their existence outside of Dhampy, Mirsha, and her husband, that means this is a private business, hmm, if I support Mirsha's image as one of the City's Hero, then....'
A wicked smile appeared on Lilith's face, 'Sparing Mirsha was a good decision then. With her by my side, I got a human shield in more ways than one.'
A public figure was always hard to assassinate.

Lilith received an announcement through an unfamiliar voice. Her mission was about to be completed, 'And that's the perfect timing I've been waiting for. I don't think I can get any more useful information out of this guy, and considering how the Devil is doing things, it seems like she's also satisfied with the results… though it appears she's still observing me for some reason.'
Lilith didn't know, and neither did she care; she had too much on her plate, "Dhampy, go and lead this fool out of this place."
The Wechuge's face brightened.
Dhampy's face, the opposite, "Boss, are you really going to let this bastard go just like that?"
"A promise is sacred, Dhampy. Once it is made, it cannot be broken less your reason outweighs your own soul. Others may not approve of what I do, but I do what I say. That is my principle. If you are thinking about Mirsha, I kept my promise to her, I did heal "him" back at the City." Lilith pointed at the Wechuge, "I told her the Goddess willed him alive. I didn't say anything specifics about her husband. And with that said, I promised that I wouldn't do anything to him and let him walk out of the Cavern alive. I will uphold my end of the bargain. Escort him out, Dhampy."
Lilith and Dhampy exchanged eyes. It took a while, but Dhampy moved her right hand and unbound the Wechuge, "You're free to go."
"I'll stay here, for now; I want to be alone for the time being."
"Understood."
The Wechuge and Dhampy left and disappeared at the next turn. Sitting on her little stone seat, Lilith rested her chin on her palm and heard a gut-wrenching scream coming from outside the Cavern, "I can't believe so many fools still fall for this."
Lilith got up and started walking outside of the Cavern, "Well, I promised the lass to return her father to her side again. Time to play the asshole again."
Lilith went outside to fulfill what she said to Lucia.
