It wasn’t like it was some easy problem to answer. A dead grandfather and a house full of old trinkets.

There was a problem with William, or that’s what he thought. Life was like a building with no windows.

You couldn’t escape the inevitable.

He wanted to escape so badly though.

That’s where his problem stood.

The need to escape the inevitable.

The word inevitable though meant it was unavoidable, fated, destined.

So he followed the path wherever it took him, did it matter in the end? When he would just go out like a gentle breeze.

The fated doom was a restraint that led him down different doors only to lead to the same destination.

Just like how he worked so hard for his grandfather's hospital bills to be paid, but he died.

Knowing such an ending made his blood run cold.

Whether he made a difference or not, he would only meet death's embrace in the end too.

When the earth shook and the ground cracked beneath him ready to swallow him whole, he felt no fear.

The small streams water flowed down the cracks and the trees shook and fell.

He stood silently, there was no running from this, even if he wanted to run he had felt a great pressure holding him in place.

Was this death's embrace?

The pressure was so relentless he felt his legs quivering.

As his vision shook a great light spread from his chest, his eyes could not help but close from the sheer pain.

The light enveloped the surroundings for what felt like forever. With its diminish the area also ceased in its entirety from the shaking, the crack was still visible so it could not have been a dream.

With this thought in mind, he could not help but stare inquisitively at the space around him that still stood in shambles.

‘Well it couldn’t have been a dream.’

He could still feel his legs weakening. He barely stood with the support of a leaning tree.

He’d almost died. Just like that.

He silently laughed, it was not out of amusement in any form if one were to hear it they would feel the slight relief.

He was relieved. Even as a being who accepted the inevitable he would still feel a sense of defeat if he were to meet his end in such a way.

He walked back home unfazed, he had experienced so many trials of misfortune these past few days. They almost felt normal.

From a sunny day suddenly raining to stepping in dog shit, his luck had been terrible to the point he could almost feel it.

He was sure this was something otherworldly, but it’s not like he could fist fight luck. He could only shrug his shoulders and carry on with caution.

He wasn’t expecting the ground to split beneath him though, so he was still a little shaken.

He had to walk slowly home to keep from falling.

Walking inside the newly cleaned house he plopped on the couch he had dusted off and slept.

His mind drifted through a series of thoughts before he could finally kick them all to the back of his head.

As his breathing evened out his consciousness carried away. He woke up with a start not expecting to experience the feeling of falling, it happened to people every once in a while when they were falling asleep. He had never experienced it himself before.

He rubbed his eyes and sighed, he decided to play on his phone for a few minutes then try again. He reached out for it in the dark room.

He felt around but couldn’t find it, he grumbled as he stood up.

He stumbled through the darkness, though he was careful he still stubbed his toe. Feeling the edges of it, he realized it was a table.

‘The hell, I don’t have a table in the living room.’

He felt his heart sputter.

He wanted to find the light quickly, before he could move the lights flickered on by themselves.

The room was pretty barren with not much in place.

Just blocks of white in range of small to large, they moved erratically.

A large block suddenly ran toward William before he could run it went through him.

“I-I’m not dead am I?”
