Chapter 44: Good People Doing Good Deeds
Translated & Edited by KChandra

It was already dinner time when Gongxi Qiao drove his car to the gates of the Xi family residence.

Looking at the carved gate towering in front of him, he pulled open the car door and walked to the video intercom next to him, and rang the doorbell.

The bodyguard on duty in the surveillance room looked at the young man in the video in surprise. Wasn’t this the actor who had recently become popular? Before he had time to react, the colleague next to him had picked up the intercom.

He was a bit dumbfounded to hear the other party hang up the phone in a few sentences and then press the red button to open the door. Just like that, he let an actor in?

Seeing that the gate was open, Gongxi Qiao went back to his car and drove the car not far past the gate of the Xi family when he saw two bodyguards signaling him to stop.

Stopping the car, he took the thermos container out of the back seat and smiled at one of the bodyguards who looked somewhat familiar, “Thanks for your trouble.”

“You are welcome Qiao Shao. Please come this way.” Seeing Gongxi Qiao being so polite, the bodyguard who answered back was a bit embarrassed. He silently guided Gongxi Qiao all the way to the second floor of the residential building where he heard the sound of a doctor talking upstairs before saying, “The boss is upstairs.”

After saying this, he noticed the thermos container in Gongxi Qiao’s hand, “The boss doesn’t have a good appetite so please persuade him to have more.”

“Okay,” Gongxi Qiao saw that the bodyguard had no intention to follow him up. He gave a slight nod to the other party and turned around to walk towards the room where the conversation was heard.

At first he didn’t intend to come to visit Xi Qing. They had some friendship, but it wasn’t close enough for him to come to his private home when he was sick. Xi Qing’s status was extraordinary, and it would be pointless if he was misunderstood as a lapdog.

But after he took a nap, he suddenly remembered that Xi Qing’s parents were dead and he had no siblings, so he was sick and bored at home alone. He had lived two lives. What kind of gossip had he not heard before? Why should he need to live his life according to other people’s opinions? It didn’t matter if others misunderstood his intentions, as long as Xi Qing didn’t misunderstand.

After he figured it out, he filled a thermos container up with the bone broth vegetable soup that Aunt Luo had made for him, which was just right for people who were sick.

“Mr. Xi, your temperature is still high,” the family doctor changed the medicine on the IV stand, flicked the air bubbles in the IV tube, and said in a serious tone, “Your illness is the result of exhaustion. Usually you look healthy, but when you get sick, it’s not easy for you to get better.”

Xi Qing knew that the doctor was doing him a favor, so he just listened silently, but the document in his hand couldn’t be read any further.

“After finishing these fluids, if your temperature doesn’t go down, I suggest you go to the hospital for two days.” The doctor collected the medical waste together and looked at the time. “It’s dinner time, you should eat something.”

Xi Qing frowned and didn’t say anything. He didn’t have any appetite at this time.

Seeing him like this, the doctor sighed. Who was it that said on the phone at noon today that he would rest and eat well?

“Knock knock.”

The doctor glanced back and saw a young man in a white shirt standing outside the door of the room, with a pair of eyes that were bright and dazzling to look at.

“Xiao Qiao!” Xi Qing sat up straight, “Why are you here?”

“I heard you’re sick, so I came to see you.” Gongxi Qiao smiled politely at the doctor, walked to Xi Qing’s bedside, and looked at the IV stand on the side of the bed, “It seems you are quite sick.”

“It’s just a minor ailment,” Xi Qing tossed the folder to the side, “You sit down first.”

Gongxi Qiao reached out and touched the other man’s forehead. A burning sensation came from the palm of his hand. Gongxi Qiao frowned. “The fever is quite severe, how many degrees is it now?”

“More than thirty-nine degrees,” the doctor took over, “Sir, you and Mr. Xi are friends. If his temperature doesn’t go down after finishing these fluids, please send him to the hospital.”

“Okay, I see. Thanks.” Gongxi Qiao turned back to the doctor and thanked him before looking at Xi Qing somewhat helplessly. When the man usually appeared in front of him, he was always imposing and uninviting. But this time, his burning cheeks were red and the lips were white, and it made him seem a lot more grounded.

After looking around, he simply sat down on the edge of the bed. Noticing that there were also folders on the bed, he said, “You eat something and sleep first, you’ll get well soon. People who are sick can’t worry about their work. The Xi Group is a big business, can you worry about it alone?”

After saying this, he got up and poured a bowl of soup from the thermos and brought it to Xi Qing. “Have some soup to nourish your stomach, and then get some sleep.”

Looking at the soup in front of him, although Xi Qing had no appetite, he drank it up with a grimace,

“Okay, now lie down and sleep. By the time you wake up, you’ll be cured,” Gongxi Qiao pressed the man under the covers, covering him carefully.

“Are you going back now?” Xi Qing exposed his head from the quilt and his calm as water eyes looked at Gongxi Qiao. The corners of his mouth were slightly pursed.

The other man’s face was expressionless, but Gongxi Qiao sensed some reluctance and paused. Looking at the other party’s pale cheeks, he shook his head. “You can sleep. I’m not leaving now.”

Xi Qing stared at him for another ten seconds or so, before slowly closing his eyes.

After another moment, hearing the other man’s even breathing, Gongxi Qiao stood up from the edge of the bed and went to the sofa next to him to look through his phone, still looking up from time to time at the IV bottle.

After an hour or so, Gongxi Qiao found that Xi Qing’s forehead was sweating. He went up and probed Xi Qing’s forehead with his hand, and then touched his own forehead to make sure that the other person’s body temperature had gradually returned to normal, before he breathed a sigh of relief.

Gently walking out of the room, he said quietly to the bodyguard guarding the door, “The medicine in the room is almost gone. Go and call the doctor to collect the needle.”

The bodyguard looked inside the room and saw that the boss was sleeping peacefully. He took out the intercom and informed the bodyguard below to call the doctor to come upstairs. However, he said to Gongxi Qiao, “Thank you for your trouble tonight, Mr. Gongxi.”

Gongxi Qiao knew that this bodyguard was a little defensive, but there was nothing wrong with the bodyguard doing his duty, so he didn’t get angry. He smiled and said, “Your boss is my friend. Friends care about each other. There was no trouble to speak of.”

After saying that, he was worried that the sound of the two talking would affect Xi Qing’s sleep. He smiled at the other person, and when he saw the doctor coming up, he turned around and went back inside.

Xi Qing felt as if someone was touching the back of his hand. He jerked open his eyes and saw the doctor’s wrinkled face. He was dazed for a moment, looked around and saw Gongxi Qiao sitting at the end of the bed, and settled down in his heart.

“You’re awake?” Seeing him open his eyes, Gongxi Qiao stepped forward and held his hand in place, “Don’t move yet, the doctor will get the needle for you.”

After the doctor removed the needle and pressed a sterile cotton swab to the needle hole, Gongxi Qiao reached out and took his place.

“Your body temperature has come down. Are you hungry now?” Gongxi Qiao saw the other person’s gaze fall on his hand, so he smiled and said, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Thank you for tonight.” He thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep just now, but who knew that he would fall asleep so quickly.

“Since we’re friends, you shouldn’t be so polite to me,” making sure that the needle hole wouldn’t bleed, Gongxi Qiao took away the sterile cotton swab and got up to throw it into the trash can next to him. “Is there anything you want to eat? I’ll have your maid make it for you.”

Xi Qing sat up and felt a little clammy, so he twisted his shoulders a little uncomfortably, “Have you eaten?”

“I came over with the thermos this afternoon and haven’t had a chance to eat yet. Why don’t you eat a little with me?” Gongxi Qiao touched his stomach, “It’s protesting.”

Xi Qing hooked his lips up, “Good.”

After eating a light dinner with Xi Qing, Gongxi Qiao sat in his house for another hour, watching him take his medicine before getting up to say goodbye.

Xi Qing stood on the balcony with his coat on, watching the black car drive out of his gate, and his eyes were tinged with warmth.

What if, that man could live with him all the time ……

Thinking of this, Xi Qing’s complexion changed. He didn’t even know that his jacket had fallen to the ground.

How could he have such a thought?

“Boss, Qiao Shao has already gone back. I arranged for a partner to drive behind him to keep him safe.” The head bodyguard walked into the house and whispered, “And on the Bai family’s side, the news of their cooperation with that overseas company has been reported by the media.”

He waited for half a day and found that the boss didn’t respond, and looked at the man on the balcony with some confusion, “Boss?”

Xi Qing looked back at him, bent down to pick up the jacket on the ground and rubbed the middle of his forehead, “I know.”

The bodyguard looked at the disheveled boss with a puzzled face. What happened? When Qiao Shao was there, wasn’t he still fine?

Gongxi Qiao drove directly back to the house. Halfway through waiting for a traffic light, he saw a three or four year old child toddling toward the middle of the road. It looked like the traffic light was about to turn, and he didn’t see any adults to pull the child back.

He frowned. Did he get separated from the adults?

Hearing the car behind him honking constantly, he reached out from the window and made a gesture toward the vehicle behind him, signaling a situation ahead.

The child walked halfway and probably saw that there was no one around and there were many vehicles parked next to him. He was a bit confused and wailed a few seconds later.

Gongxi Qiao hesitated, pulled open the car door, quickly ran towards the child in the middle of the road and carried him to his car. Enduring the child’s demonic crying, he drove the car through the traffic lights, and then pulled over.

After making a phone call to 110, he took out a pair of sunglasses and put it on. He got out of the car with the child in his arms. Probably due to being held by a stranger, the child was a little scared. Instead of crying, he just kept sniffling, and carefully sized up Gongxi Qiao.

“Little man, how did you get lost?” As a public figure, he actually preferred to stay in the car and wait for the police to come, but for a small child, being in a confined space with a stranger would deepen his fear, so Gongxi Qiao could only carry the child out at night with sunglasses on.

The little boy flattened his mouth, moaned to find his mother, but didn’t dare to cry loudly. His chubby little hands tugged at Gongxi Qiao’s shirt sleeve, making a gray handprint on it.

Gongxi Qiao gently patted away the dust on the child’s body, looked around and carried him to a supermarket. He originally wanted to buy him food, but remembered that some children were allergic to certain foods, so he bought a toy car in the toy section and stuffed it into the child’s hand, coaxing him not to cry.

After giving the child some water, Gongxi Qiao squatted down on the street to play with the boy’s car. He was relieved to see two police officers and a man and woman coming this way after around 10 minutes.

Watching the little kid jump into his mother’s arms with the toy car, Gongxi Qiao stood up and saw some people watching. He covered his face and was ready to get in the car and leave.

“Brother, thank you,” the child’s father was full of excitement and stopped Gongxi Qiao, “Fortunately our child didn’t have an accident. Thank you so much, thank you so much.”

When the other party was so excited that they bowed and thanked him, Gongxi Qiao pulled open the car door but couldn’t leave. Seeing that there were passersby around who took out their cell phones to take pictures, he laughed dryly and said, “It was just a small effort. I just saw the child alone in the middle of the road and it was too dangerous, so I called the police. Now your family is reunited.”

“Anyway, if it wasn’t for you, I don’t know how much more our child would have suffered this time.” The child’s father was going to pay money to express his gratitude, but seeing that Gongxi Qiao was wearing a brand name and driving a luxury car, he knew that the other person wasn’t short of money, so he took out his business card and handed it to Gongxi Qiao.

“I’m the manager of the Xi Group’s R&D department. If you don’t mind, I’ll be happy to help in the future if you need it.”

Gongxi Qiao easily dealt with the police and the child’s parents and, wiping the sweat from his head, drove away from the scene in a flash.

If a citizen did a good deed and didn’t want to leave his name, the policeman couldn’t force him. So, after telling the parents to be more attentive to their child, he went back to the office to make a record of it.

Passersby saw that there was no excitement to see, and left in twos and threes. Only a few passersby looked at the photos on their phones, and the more they looked, the more they felt that the person wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night looked somewhat familiar.

Some good person posted this lively thing that happened on the roadside to Weibo. They also posted several pictures and a video of the scene, and finally said that there were still good people in the world. Even if they drove luxury cars and wore famous brands, a rich second generation would also do good things.

Probably because the one who did the good deed was a rich young man dressed fashionably and had long legs, it attracted a lot of reposts, until some netizens suddenly said, do you think this rich young man in a luxury car looks familiar?

“Do you guys think that the other person’s sexy chin and perfect body resemble a certain actor?”

Once they said so, everyone also felt some resemblance. If not an entertainer, who would wear sunglasses in the middle of the night and cover his face while others were shooting.

“If I’m wrong, you guys, don’t scold me. I think this person seems to be my family’s male god ……Qiao Shao.”

Gongxi Qiao didn’t know that he was famous for his “good people doing good deeds”, and after returning home and taking a shower, he slept beautifully and prepared to be in the best shape for the next day’s ‘Ska’ magazine cover shoot.

‘Ska’ was a fashion magazine that was distributed all over Asia and was very well known in the fashion world, so to be on the cover of this magazine was considered an achievement for an artist.

Senhe currently developed a high-end entertainment strategy for him. Whether it was an endorsement or a magazine cover, it was all about precision. Quality over quantity. Gongxi Qiao already had this characteristic, plus he was developing well, so this route was perfect for him.

For the sake of fame, artists in the circle would act dumb, act young, or act comical. Whatever they thought was appealing to their fans, they would act like it.

Gongxi Qiao didn’t want to force himself to act crazy and foolish, nor did he want to appear on all kinds of shows just to show his face, so he was satisfied with the development route Senhe had set for him. The two sides agreed on a deal, and both were happy.

The opportunity to work with ‘Ska’ was set two weeks ago, but the other side didn’t say which issue’s cover it would be. Now because ‘National Industry’ was a huge success and Gongxi Qiao was highly acclaimed for his superb acting skills, ‘Ska’ was anxious to take advantage of Gongxi Qiao’s current fame and status to increase sales within Flower Country, so they brought the photoshoot forward.

The next morning, Gongxi Qiao woke up and drank only a small glass of honey water for better results. Although he was still a little thirsty, he didn’t dare to drink more.

The cameraman sent by ‘Ska’ magazine was a foreigner with blond hair and blue eyes. From the time Gongxi Qiao started shooting until the end, he kept calling out to God in awe, with his sparkling eyes that looked at Gongxi Qiao as if he was looking at a treasure of great value.

“My God, your body is simply perfect, so perfect, it’s a gift from God!” At the end of the shoot, the photographer left his business card to him with some reluctance, hoping that Gongxi Qiao would have the chance to become his model in the future.

Gongxi Qiao was relieved to be done with this enthusiastic photographer. After getting into the car, he said with some emotion, “This foreign friend is really too enthusiastic.”

“Artistic people are always extra enthusiastic about perfect works of art,” Chen Ke said with a smile, “Ari is very famous in the industry, and his works are also very outstanding. Many artists in the circle want him to take their pictures, but they can’t necessarily hire him. If he invites you to be his model in the future, I think you should consider it.”

Gongxi Qiao raised his eyebrows noncommittally. Thinking of Xi Qing, who was still ill, he took out his cell phone and called him.

Xi Qing was drinking a bland and tasteless nutritional congee when his private phone rang. After seeing the name on the phone’s display, his original not-so-good mood suddenly brightened up.

After answering Gongxi Qiao’s series of questions about his health, Xi Qing hung up the phone, not even aware of the smile on his face.

“Has President Xi recovered?” Chen Ke saw Gongxi Qiao call Xi Qing and hesitantly asked, “Did you go out last night?”

Gongxi Qiao nodded and put the phone down, “What’s wrong?”

“So did you do something while you were out?”

“Just picked up a kid in the road and reported it to the police,” Gongxi Qiao saw Chen Ke’s complicated expression and paused, “I was recognized?!”

Chen Ke chuckled in his heart. You think wearing sunglasses will prevent others from recognizing you? This was underestimating the ability of the netizens too much!
