After a strange conversation with Phil that left me with bad feelings, I decided to head to the library.
To be honest, I didn't know how to respond to his suggestion yet. Until now, I never thought about becoming someone else's partner, especially since I couldn't even dance!
I sighed.
And why would he want to invite me...? Phil must really be very nice to me.
I decided to leave all thoughts of the banquet for later, so I focused on finding the library.
I'd never been in it before, but finding it wasn't a problem thanks to Phil's clear instructions.
As I pushed open the wide, carved doors and stepped inside, I couldn't help but feel awed, because the academy's library was truly amazing.
It was a wide and spacious room, filled with everything necessary for the enjoyment of the library and the convenience of its visitors. The bookshelves were lofty and majestic, filled with a variety of books. The tables and chairs are made of the finest wood, both comfortable and pleasing to the eye. And the gold-cut jewelry on the furniture and walls further emphasized the grandeur of this place.
It was the most luxurious library I'd ever seen in my life. So, not surprisingly, I drooled over her assiduously for the next few minutes.
Then, slapping my cheeks, I came to my senses.
After all, that was not what I was here for!
Remembering my main purpose in coming here, I looked around the room for Rachel.
Surprisingly, even though it wasn't late in the evening, there were almost no people here at all. I wonder why.
In complete silence, I walked between the bookshelves, hoping that I hadn't come here in vain, and that Rachel was really here.
For once, I got lucky.
Rachel was sitting at one of the tables by the window, reading a dark-covered book. There was also a heavy stack of other books next to it, which gave the impression that it had been there long.
I just stood off to the side and watched her for a while, but it didn't last very long, because the girl almost immediately sensed my presence and looked up.
"You again?"
There was an angry sigh.
"H-hello!" I said, putting on the sweetest expression I could muster, "Do you remember me? The last time I saw you was in the garden, and I've been looking forward to seeing you again ever since!"
But the bastard wasn't impressed.
"Get lost."
Before I could finish, Rachel cut me off rudely and turned her nose back to the book.
I pursed my lips, but after several days of searching for her, I wasn't going to give up so easily.
"Hey, I just want to make friends! We go to the same academy, don't we...?"
"..."
She completely ignored my response, as if I was an annoying fly that buzzed around her.
"I told you I want to talk!"
At that moment, something came over me, and the only way I could get her attention was to snatch the book out of her hands.
Surprised by what had just happened, she stared at me with a bestial gaze.

"What are you doing...?"
She stood up, clearly intending to break my arm at the very least, and it dawned on me that I'd been a little hasty in my actions.
I forgot that I wasn't dealing with an ordinary person, but a member of the most dangerous family in this kingdom.
If she wanted to attack me, I wouldn't be able to do anything!
To settle the conflict, I hurried to put the book back in its place, and waved my hands:
"L-look, I just want to talk to you! Can you just give me a few minutes...?"
"Why?"
"What...?"
"Why do you need to talk?" Rachel repeated the question, still looking at me like an angry bull with only a thin table between us.
I knew that, so I continued cautiously:
"I told you... That I want to be friends with you..."
"Nonsense," the girl snorted, "Get out before I break your arms and legs."
So saying, she sat down again at the table, apparently thinking that I would immediately listen to her and leave, but I continued to stand still.
Of course, I was afraid to be alone with her like this, not knowing what she might do to me, but I had to take the risk. It's now or never.
"Rachel... I'm serious... I'd like to get along with you," I managed, trying to keep my icy calm.
Before I could pick up the book again, her scarlet eyes pierced me.
She looked at me strangely.
"Are you crazy?"
"What?"
"Why are you following me...?" asked Rachel coldly. "Or are you trying to make fun of me like this? In that case, it might end very badly for you."
"No, not at all!" I exclaimed immediately. "I thought you were very lonely here, and you didn't have enough friends... So I thought we might... Become friends."
Rachel paused. Her eyes were fixed on me, and there was nothing but senseless hatred in them.
"If you do it again... If you dare to bother me again, I can't guarantee that I'll let you live," she said slowly, her voice flat, "You... Do you think you can play with me? Damn aristocrat... I hate you all so much."
"Why do you hate me if you don't even know me...?!"
"You're all the same. All of you... You think we're monsters. And you, too... You decided to make fun of me because I'm cursed."
"No!" I shouted in a clear voice that filled the entire library, making even Rachel's pupils twitch.
I moved closer to her, cupping her face in my hands and looking her straight in the eye.
"I don't think you're a monster."
