38 – The Freeloader Life of a Former Savior, Morning 1
In this world, there are six people that humans can depend upon.
The Sage of magic.
A woman as tall as a child with pink hair. Her appearance is that of a child as well, but she seems to be older.
As history’s greatest magic user, just how many new spells were invented during her time.
She’s the only magic user who can destroy cursed swords and weapons that curse their wielders in exchange for power.
The Saint of healing.
A gorgeous woman with blonde hair that every man turns to look at when she passes by, perhaps because she’s so glamorous.
A master of healing magic and a fearless fighter who invented a way of fighting while revitalizing the body. She can instantly heal even those that are on the verge of death.
Her name is Marie and she displays a strange attachment to me.
The Swordmaster of the blade.
A man that looks like a wandering mercenary. Distinctive by his red hair and cloth covering his eyes.
He lost his eyesight due to a cursed sword, but his skill with the blade can be called the best among Humanity.
Unlike the other Saviors, he has an irresponsible personality and didn’t force me to act more like a Savior.
The Magic Archer of the bow.
An androgynous appearance with green hair and ears that end in a point. They always have a hood on, as if they don’t like those two features.
They never miss with a bow.
After hearing that I disappeared, they have been searching for me on their own.
The resourceful War God.
A bespectacled man with blue hair and a face as expressionless as steel.
A sly individual who comes up with plans that think of everything.
His plans and the Saviors who have the strongest powers in history are the reason that Humanity has yet to perish in the face of the Demon threat.
There are six Saviors in total.
The last one is me.
The all-powerful Hero.
Among the Saviors who can grow as much as possible depending on their efforts, the one who has an aptitude for everything is chosen.
To me, the other five were my mentors and the people who forced me into the role of Savior.
According to the talking holy sword Mika, I appear to be the strongest Hero.
Currently, that Hero has quit the Saviors and is under the care of a certain Demon country.
To be blunt, I’m a freeloader.
◇
In the morning, I open my eyes feeling the weight of something other than the futon.
This would be unthinkable in the past.
I would awaken the moment there was a shift in my surroundings.
Now, this is something I only notice when I have had a good night’s sleep.
Are my senses deteriorating or am I just taking a step closer to my sought-after normalcy?
But I think the truth is that I’m probably just used to the true identity of this weight.
On that day, it was the fox-eared girl.
Ur.
A child that lost her home, had the white fox that protected them snatched away and fell into despair.
While I can’t bring back the people who’ve lost their lives, I successfully rescued the white fox that was captured by the bad Demons.
Ever since then, I think she’s become a lot more cheerful than before.
Although it seems she was a girl of few words and quiet, to begin with, there seem to be many who didn’t notice many changes.
「Uu…」
Lying on top of me, Ur clings to me as if she doesn’t want to let me go.
While smiling wryly at her actions, I pat her head once and look around by just turning my head.
Found it.
『What is it, Rain the Freeloader?』
The aforementioned white fox, now the size of a regular fox, approached me.
I grab it and attach it to Ur.
Then, Ur lets go of me and hugs the white fox.
『Mrgh. Ur, I cannot breathe.』
I move her aside and sit upright now that I have been released from the weight on my chest.
The Demon children that I and one more person rescued just before I became a freeloader slept peacefully atop my bed.

When that person and I are nearby, the girls feel safe.
I guess you could say they adore us.
『Morning, Rain.』
In the corner of the room is Mika, the holy sword plunged into a fallen boulder.
Someone said that a sword that is stabbed into a boulder or the ground is very holy sword-like.
「Morning.」
After exchanging greetings with Mika, there was a knock on the door, almost as if they were waiting for the time that I awoke.
「This is Ferris.」
The black-haired maid Ferris. A race of Demons that grow horns called Majins. Other than that, there are no noticeable differences with Humans.
「I’m awake, come in.」
She waited for my reply, then entered the room.
As usual, she has on a gentle smile.
「What would you have for breakfast? Lady Eleanor has only just made her return.」
Eleanor is a Majin magic swordsman who is one of the Big Four of the Demon King Army and someone I am indebted to.
She is the one more person that I rescued the girls with and also the woman who invited me to become a freeloader.
She is a beautiful and kind person with long silver hair and eyes as blue as the sky.
Unlike her usual cool impression, she acts oddly and has a nosebleed whenever I am around, but she is a good and gentle person.
「Is that so? If Eleanor is fine with it, I’d like to eat together.」
「That is exactly what she thought you would say, so Lady Eleanor is already ready and waiting in the dining hall.」
「I-I see. Then I better hurry.」
I wake the little ones by saying “Breakfast time!”
There are those who responded promptly to the mention of food by leaping awake out of bed and there are those who went back to sleep, having lost their battle against drowsiness.
With the help of Mika, the white fox, and Ferris, we wake everyone.
「Now then everyone, kindly have a change of clothes first. There is a maid waiting for you in the next room.」
The kids followed Ferris’s instructions and left the bedroom.
The rabbit-eared Carro muttered “I can get changed by myself…” while yawning.
The only ones left in the room are Mika, Ferris, and me.
「You as well, Master Hero. It will not do for you to remain in your pajamas.」
「Like what Carro said, I can change by myself.」
「That will not do. This is not a matter of what is or isn’t possible. If a task can be done by another, then a treasured guest should entrust that task. Now then, please allow this humble maid to assist you in changing your clothes.」
Slowly but surely, Ferris creeps closer while smiling.
「Uh… Fine, just my top.」
「Please, do not be shy.」
「Just my top, please.」
「Understood.」
Ferris is smiling broadly. I knew it.
Just when you think she’s pushing it too far, she pulls away just before it feels insistent.
I somehow manage to change my pants by myself and head towards the dining hall with everyone.
The closer I got, the better something smelt.
「Enjoy.」
Ferris, who was leading the way, opened the door for me.
Eleanor’s face, the face of the Majin woman who invited me to become a freeloader of the Demon King Army, brightened up like a light.
「Sir Rain!」
「Good morning, Eleanor. Just back from a mission? Good job.」
「Ah… Good morning. At this very moment, all of my fatigue has vanished by simply receiving such words of appreciation from you, Sir Rain.」
She smiles, trembling with delight.
「That’s…great? When we’re done eating, why not take a good rest?」
「I feel as if I could go on for three more days without rest or sleep!」
My words aren’t that effective.
「I’m hungry~」
From that remark by the kids, we sat down.
Before long, hot food was brought to the table.
The meal passed by peacefully.
Recently, my mornings have begun to start like this.
