Chapter 1220 – Need to tell a story

The audition’s advertisements are out. The top prize of 1 million RMB and an Oriental Deer immediately become the headlines of all major newspapers. No one had ever seen such attractive prizes in any competitions.

This Super Talent Show had become famous before it was even aired.

Before Feng Yu’s rebirth, even 10 million prize money will not get media attention useless you pay the newspaper agencies.

The audition started. For one month, auditions will be conducted in 8 separate venues, and each venue will pick 12 winners for the show. The participants will then attend the recording at the studio. After editing out the boring parts or repetitive performances, it will be aired to the audience.

“Nana, let’s go. I will bring you to watch an interesting program.”

Feng Yu brought Li Na to Beijing TV Station’s recording studio. This studio is not big and can only sit around 500 audiences. The stage is huge, and there is a big screen behind it. On the top of the stage, there are three big crosses. Everyone is curious about what the crosses are for.

“Is that Aaron Kwok?” Li Na asked excitedly.

“Yes. It’s him. If you like his songs and dance, I will get him to perform on Labor Day.”

“Yes… yes… yes… He is Asia’s Dancing King.”

Feng Yu smiled and shook his head. Every year, someone will be called a dancing king, and it does not include those professional dancers. In Feng Yu’s previous life, he knows more than a dozen ‘dancing kings’ from Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and even Thailand.

These dancing kings are not afraid of people criticizing them, as the more people criticize them, the more famous they will get.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, audiences in front of the TVs and PCs, thank you for watching Songjiang – Super Talent Show. This show is sponsored by Songjiang Motors. I am your host, Ma Xi.”

The program started, and the live audiences clapped. The tickets for the live audience had all been sold. Although it is not considered expensive, it is more expensive than a movie ticket. The ticket revenue for an episode can increase the program’s budget slightly.

The screen behind Ma Xi showed a gigantic Songjiang Motors’ logo. An Oriental Deer is parked on one side of the stage, with the words, ‘Oriental Deer’ painted on it clearly.

“Let us welcome our three judges. Our first judge is our No. 1 stage play actor, and the dream man of many women, Zhu Simao…”

“Our second judge is China’s most popular female singer, whose albums are sold in more than a dozen countries. Her songs are all-time favorites…. Na… Ying!”

“The third judge is our Asia’s Dancing King, one of Hong Kong’s Four Heavenly Kings, Aaron Kwok!”

The three judges appeared, and the audience screamed excitedly. The show had arranged for people to sit among the audience to lead the rest to cheer.

If this is a popular program, they don’t need to do this. But this is a new program, and they cannot make any mistakes.

“Songjiang Super Talent Show is sponsored by Wind and Rain Electronics. Wind and Rain – Technology will change your life. This show is also sponsored by Lehaha Group. Lehaha, the world’s leading beverage company. It is also sponsored by Jianlibao Group. Jianlibao, the miracle water from the East…”

After a series of advertising slogans, the live audiences grew impatient, and Ma Xi joked. “I realized the host of this program doesn’t have to do anything other than to read advertisements slogans.”

The live audiences and the judges laughed.

Ma Xi quickly explained this competition’s rules, and everyone understood what those three crosses are for. It is for the judges to show whether they like the performances.

The audiences felt this is something new as the judges tested the lights. Red means stop, and green means the participant can move on to the next stage. This is interesting.

The first participant went up the stage, and the audience was shocked. How come this man looks like a farmer? His dressing is too shabby. How can someone like him appear on TV?

“Good evening, judges and everyone.” This man spoke in Northeastern dialect, and the audiences immediately felt this show will be boring.

After a simple self-introduction, the man nodded towards the side of the stage, and the music started.

“… c’mon… c’mon… let’s meet in 98… c’mon… c’mon… let’s meet in 1998…”

The audience is stunned when the man started singing. Why is this shabbily dressed farmer’s voice sound like a girl?

Na Ying was even more shocked. This voice sounds like Faye Wong, who had sung this song with her!

The song ended, and everyone cheered.

Li Na is also cheering and shouting excitedly beside Feng Yu. “He is terrific! How come he can sing so well?!”

Feng Yu smiled and kept quiet. It was his idea to let this person do the opening performance. This contrast between his appearances and vocals will attract viewers and stop them from switching channels.

Na Ying asked the first question. “How can you sing so well?! Did you attended professional singing classes?”

“I am a farmer and had not learned singing before. My family cannot even afford to send me to school. After I graduate from Junior High, I started working on my family’s farm. My hobby is singing, and I love your songs. Of course, I also like to listen to Teacher Kwok’s songs.”

Aaron Kwok replied with his Hong Kong accented mandarin. “Your vocals are not suitable to sing my song.”

“That’s because I can’t dance like you.”

The audience laughed, and they realized this shabby farmer is quite humorous.

“What other songs can you sing?” Na Ying asked.

“I know all of your songs. I had bought an Aiwa Walkman and listened to your cassette tapes in the past. After my father found out, I got a beating from him because my family was very poor then. The money used to buy the Walkman can be used to buy a lot of flour…”

Many people, including Na Ying, were touched by his story.”

The three judges agreed unanimously to light up the green lights.

Li Na looks at Feng Yu angrily. “He is so pitiful and hardworking. Why are you laughing at him?!”

“I am happy for him.” Feng Yu replied.

Actually, Feng Yu knows this man might sound pitiful. But he did not tell the audience that his family now owns a few agricultural machineries like harvesters, tractors, etc., and rented a big plot of land. His annual family income is at least 300,000 RMB and is much more than average working-class families. Also, they only need to work less than six months a year.

But why did this farmer didn’t say all these? That’s because Feng Yu told the production crew that every participant must have a story about their hardship when the judges ask. But the story must not be fake! When this participant came to the studio, he was in a suit!

But this guy is very smart and is good at telling stories. With his shabby dressing and thick accent, all the audience cheered for him!

The first performance is a success!
