Opax Continent, home of two Empires and other smaller Kingdoms. The Tamriel Empire that lies south of the Epheria Empire, which is in the north region.
The Dukedom of Rizar is a territory far north of the Imperial City, also known as the Epheria City. The territory is called the land of snow and beasts because it is in the midst of winter all year long and is just outside the border of the Corrupted Region, where beasts and other dark creatures roam.
The entire north region of the Epheria Empire is under only a single Duke. And that is, the Duke of Rizar.
Those born to the Rizar family become soldiers and join the army tasked with protecting humans from the Corrupted Region. This is because the Rizar family was given both a blessing and curse, being born with a high amount of mana that is dark in nature. If they do not spill the blood of beasts or lose control of their emotions, they will go into a berserk stage and kill everyone around them.
So, for them, that region was both heaven and hell.
Because of the climate and its barren soils, the production of the food supply is not good. Crops barely grow and travelers stay clear of the area. However, due to their achievements, the Dukedom doesn’t lack money and reputation. Not only that, but the Dukedom also has four major mines, and thirteen small mines they use to make armors and weapons.
A long time ago, the Duke of Rizar at that time always made sure that the citizens were well fed and lived peaceful lives. He and his family didn't squander money and found ways to improve the market currency. Because of this, the citizens didn't have any trouble with paying taxes or for their daily necessities.
In return for his kindness, the loyal citizens of Rizar begged the Duke to teach them how to become blacksmiths to make stronger weapons. Seeing their dedication, he decided to invite a famous blacksmith that even the Imperial City could not request and opened a school.
Since then, the Dukedom has become well known for the large number of famous blacksmiths it provides. The weapons and armors created by these blacksmiths are considered first-rate in the continent.
Duke Rizar’s mansion was built at the edge of the City of Elran. To reach the mansion, you'd have to take a long path from the outer part of the City.
“Young Master Lucius, everything has been prepared.” The Head Butler bowed respectfully, with his hand over his chest.
In a spacious room, a group of people stood by the side as the Young Master entered. Including the Head Butler, a Rune Mage from the Magic Research Institute, a Priest from the Holy Temple and two Knights, waited anxiously.
The Rune Mage stepped forward to explain the process to Lucius. "The activation of the array can only be maintained for half an hour. If no spirit beasts find you suitable and refuse to answer your call, you will be unable to complete the summoning and fail."
The Young Master nodded his head in understanding.
Lucius Rizar, the eldest and only son of the Rizar family. He was studying at the academy and was only a few months away from graduating at age 18, before receiving news of his Father’s death. Ambushed by a stampede of beasts, Alphonse Rizar, stood with his contracted familiar, a red lion, to buy time for the others to escape. With no choice, Lucius was forced to take his Father's place as Duke earlier than planned.
It took Lucius two years to straighten things out and squash any objections and challenges to his authority. Although there were still some problems, after turning twenty years old today, he was to now officially begin his path as the Duke of Rizar. And to do so, he must successfully summon a high rank familiar.
In the Opax continent, a noble’s status is recognized by the rank of the familiar that they have a contract with. This is because each noble must send their familiar to fight in the Grand Purging held every two years in the Corrupted Region. Familiars are ranked from low to high, 5 being the lowest and 1 being the highest. Rank 1 familiars are called as such, a Sacred Familiar.

A noble’s title can be striped or changed if the summoning ritual fails, and there are no other candidates in the family. It’s very rare for this to happen because a person’s mana level is said to be genetic. Meaning, a child born to a high level noble has enough potential to summon a Sacred Familiar, while a child born to a low level noble can only summon low-level familiars.
This is…their so-called fate.
On the floor, was a sparkling blue and black magic array that took up half of the room.
The Young Master stood in the middle and cut the palm of his hand with a dagger, drawing blood. Blood flowed from his hand and fell to the floor. “I, Lucius Rizar, eldest son of Duke Alphonse Rizar, command you, come forth, you who will become my lifelong partner.”
Everyone held their breath in nervousness. Although the outcome was obvious, they couldn’t help but feel uneasy. As the eldest son to the Duke, he must summon the highest ranked familiar. If he failed, it was difficult to say what would happen to the dukedom, as he was the only suitable candidate.
And yet, Lucius’ expression didn’t change at all. He watched coldly as the magic array activated.
At first, a single white spirit ring appeared, hovering around Lucius. This indicated that the summoned familiar will be the lowest level, a rank 5. A few seconds later, a green ring, a blue ring, and a purple ring appeared all at once. When it stopped there, everyone held their breath. The purple ring indicated a rank 2 familiar. But if Lucius wanted to inherit the title of Duke, this wasn't good enough.
When the final fifth ring formed, showing a bright red color, everyone smiled in relief. He succeeded! But abruptly, a change occurred before they could relax. The number of spirit rings increased!
Then, a gold-colored ring with an overwhelming aura materialized as the sixth ring. And that wasn't all.
“T-this is…” The Rune Mage’s mouth hung wide open. He tried counting the number of rings. Seven...eight....nine....it kept increasing! And they were all the same dark color. It only stopped when reaching thirteen rings. "What is this?!"
The two Knights hidden in the shadows stepped forward, but the Priest held them back. “You must not! If you disturb the ritual, it can harm his future! Making him unable to use runes!”
When hearing the Priest, the Knights decided to wait. In this world, if a person could no longer use rune magic, it was the same as sentencing them to death. And for Lucius, it would be something worse than death.
When the light and rings finally vanished, visibility returned. Everyone’s attention all turned to one single place. The spot in front of the Young Master.
Lucius looked down at the floor in a daze. A naked young woman with very long light brown hair twirling around her was lying on the floor in front of him.
Shuddering in fear as she tried to cover her breasts with her arm, she stared at the people in front of her.
