Alastair and erik crossed the small mountain field completely ignoring the monsters which tipped erik of that alastair was not as calm as he seemed. erik remained quiet the entire way through the cave to cobblestone and without even realizing it alastair found himself in a completely fine village. this surprised alastair as he expected devastation and ruins rather than the completely normal village before him. alastair ignored that erik was nowhere to be found as he walked through the village to his house up on the hill where he opened the door to see his mom cooking while humming.
The women turned around and looked surprised to see alastair. "who are you?" she asked confused. "alastair" he said honestly. "what rubbish are you talking about my boy is no more than six , begone with you trickster!" she said angrily before pushing him out the door and slamming it shut. 'six?' alastair thought in a confused daze as he walked to the center of the village. alastair stopped when he heard a familiar crying sound from nearby and turning to look saw a young emma crying under a familiar tree that had a red headscarf stuck on one of the lower branches.
Alastair plucked the headscarf of the branch and handed it to the young emma with a kind smile. "here you go and try not to lose it again." he said kindly. the little girl stopped crying and looked at alastair with red eyes. "thank you mister , what is your name mines emma." she said while retying her headscarf. "alastair" he said calmly getting a confused look in return. "what? oh i know you are looking for him right. he went to go find his grandpa by the river." she said making her own inference about what alastair said.
Alastair just nodded and emma ran towards the river on the other side of the village with alastair trailing behind her quietly. by this point alastair had realized that he was in the past somehow and that cobblestone had indeed been destroyed already , however seeing it in one piece had somehow calmed him down to the point he wasn't worried about the village anymore but rather had a simmering rage pointed at carnelian and jasper who had destroyed it. this rage didn't consume alastair but definitely affected him deeply giving his features a slightly colder feel.
Soon alastair saw a younger version of himself talking with a chubby short old man on a short pier next to the riverside. emma ran up and told the younger alastair that the stranger had helped her and that he was looking for him. "no , i have never seen him before." the youngster said honestly. the old man spoke up at this point. "actually i think he is looking for me so why don't you little ones run along while we chat a bit hmm?" he said kindly to which the kids agreed and invited alastair to play after he was done talking and ran together into the village.
"It's you isn't it?" chalky asked seriously. "yes" alastair said with tears in his eyes. "i thought so , i have known you since you were but a babe after all. but what are you doing here?" chalky asked curiously. alastair explained how chalky had passed away and how he had gone to see king carnelian like chalky had wanted. he then explained about how the king had called him darkspawn and order jasper to destroy cobblestone while imprisoning him in the dungeon. alastair explained how he had to escape and is now on the run as well.
Chalky looked horrified at alastairs story and could hear the pain in alastairs voice as he narrated the future events. "i am so sorry little one , if i had know i would never have had amber send you to the king if i did." chalky said honestly. "right here's what we are going to do , over at cobblestone falls there is a three sided rock and in front of that rock i will bury something for you that will help you on your journey." he said seriously and at this time chalky began to slowly fade away.
"I see our time is up. remember not to carry a grudge and live life with love in your heart , i always did and it never led me wrong." chalky said before fading away completely. "how can i release this rage without a grudge i'm sorry grandpa but this time i can't listen too you." alastair said to no one in particular before walking back into the village. once he got to the tree in the center of the village the scenery faded away to reveal the true state of the village where the only building left is the church.
The root around the tree stopped shining and erik spoke up from beside alastair. "looks like you are back from wherever you were. it was odd like you were here one second and then faraway the next not that i blame you seeing one's home town razed like this might cause that i anyone." he said seriously. erik placed his hand on alastairs shoulder "i don't know what you are feeling but i know we cant stay here for long." he said sympathetically. "rage , that is what i am feeling." alastair said before looking at erik seriously.
Erik nodded "if anyone deserves to be angry it's you an entire village razed because you grew up here , its just not right." erik said honestly. "i won't take out my rage on anyone else but if we meet anyone chasing us from heliodor don't expect any mercy from me." alastair said seriously. erik nodded understandingly before alastair explained that his grandpa said he had left something for him near cobblestone falls when he was in the past. the two left the village since the longer they stayed the moodier alastair got and quickly headed for the emerald coast path that went through the falls first.
