Chapter 28: Sudden change and rescue

Closing out the system screen alastair underwent a change in his body much different than any that came before as he had reached the limit his body could grow normally. this time the system forcefully dug out the potential that alastairs body had to force a minor evolution. the evolution caused alastairs bones to elongate and increase in density making him grow close to three inches while his back muscles shifted into a more suitable arrangement for exerting force which when flexed looked like a face even if only faintly. this change was sudden but ended quickly enough that the rest of the party didn't notice it.

Erik looked over at alastair to say something but stopped with a confused expression "did you get taller all the sudden?" he asked curiously. alastair acted confused "i don't think so?" he said unsure. the three women hear this exchange and look at alastair with surprise. "you certainly did grow and by no less than three inches as well , you were my height before and now you are easily taller." erisa said with interest. "you think it might have something to do with me being the luminary?" alastair asked trying to pass the focus to something no one understood perfectly.

"Well its certainly possible considering the only thing that is known definitively is that the luminary has your mark and is meant to defeat the dark one. everything else is hearsay since none of his companions left any writing about his abilities." serena says with a pondering expression. "whatever the case we should probably release that magic that those monsters had stolen before we go any further down the rabbit hole." alastair said with a sigh. the rest of the group nodded in agreement and veronica walked over to the huge rune covered jar that was a dark brown and was taller than she was and pushed open the lid.

At first nothing happened but five seconds later a huge pink cloud of magic shot out of the jar all at once and formed a tornado of pink around veronica. this tornado blocked the rest of the groups vision of veronica for about a minute before it faded away. once the group could see veronica again she looked the same as before causing serena to get on her knees in front of veronica to be at eye level. "did it fail?" serena asked confused.

Veronica flicked her right hand and summoned a softball sized ball of flame before waving her hand and extinguishing it. "nope i can feel the old magic from my toes all the way to the tips of my hair." veronica said happily. "but if that's true then why do you still look like a child?" serena asked confused. "from what i can tell this odd transfiguration has been tied to her lifeforce preventing her from returning back regardless of weather she got her magic back or not." erisa explained seriously. "well you heard the expert so i seems we need to get used to it." veronica said with a shrug.

After this short event the party headed into the room with about ten barred cells and in five of those cells there were people who had been kidnapped by the monsters. one of the people even seemed to tickle erik's memory , a skinny black haired man named noah. noah quickly shrugged off erik knowing him before leaving in a hurry. almost immediately after he left erik figured out that he was an information broker in some of the less reputable circles. veronica gave erik a stern look after his admittance of a criminal past but didn't say anything.

The group left the ruins after that and headed back to town since it was starting to get dark from the time it took to rescue everyone as well as return. the group made back it into town just after nightfall and settled into the inn for the night after serena made a show of officially joining the party. once again two rooms were rented dividing the genders which erisa vehemently rejected as before. the rest of the night was uneventful with the only thing of note being when alastair removed his shirt shocking erik with the face like muscles there on his back.

The next morning alastair decided to walk around shirtless due to how uncomfortable his current shirt was. the girls all seemed to swallow a mouthful of saliva when they saw him which caused the two blondes to blush but erisa was openly swooning. after having a larger than normal breakfast since his body seemed to need it alastair and the group left the inn. the first thing alastair did was to go to a tailor and order a few sets of cloths the first fit his current size while the others were a size or two larger.

After changing into his new clothes which obviously disappointed erisa , alastair and the group went to the bar. this was to check to see if noah had came to get bonnie which judging from the slightly tipsy man at the counter seemed so. after a short conversation the group learned about a treasure held by the sultan of gallopolis called the reinbow that seemed to be a branch of Yggdrasil itself. seeing as it was the best idea they had the group decided to head to gallopolis to try and get this reinbow to see if it can give them a hint about how to reach the world tree.
