Qi Yue wailed, “Brother Yuan, how did you die?! You’re our Daddy! Shit, they’re going to slay dragon1!”

So noisy.

Gu Jing Yuan directly turned off his microphone. His world finally fell into silence.

If Qi Yue hadn’t been yapping this whole time, could he have made so many mistakes? This evening, he was unable to enter the zone while gaming.

He still had three seconds before he was revived. The other team was so fixated with pushing crystal that they didn’t notice that their time of death had arrived.

As soon as he was revived, all of them were dead men walking. Before any of them had any time to react, they were all eliminated.

Opposite Team: [Fuck! He must’ve on hack2!]

Qi Yue: [Opposite team, please use your common sense. Does the King of Kings3 even have to on hack?]

Gu Jing Yuan: [Not interesting, leaving.]

He just left when he said he wanted to, leaving no chance for Qi Yue to convince him otherwise.

Heartless man!

Nanny Yang rapped on the door, “Jing Yuan, it’s time to eat.”

“Coming.”

“There’s something outside your door. Did you forget to bring it in?”

He seemed to remember vaguely hearing someone talking at the door just now. It was a transparent plastic bag containing iodine, cotton swabs, and band-aids.

Nanny Yang saw his face and exclaimed, “Ah! Jing Yuan, how did you get hurt? Wait for a while, Nanny shall bring the first aid kit for you. We don’t even know what brand of medication this is.”

“Nanny Yang, no need to bother. I’ll recover in a few days.”

“What if you get an infection? You must apply some.”

“I don’t want to.”

Nanny Yang took care of him since childhood. Hence, she pampered him like her own son, always giving in to him. So seeing that it’s nothing major and he really didn’t want to, she let it slide.

“Alright then, you have to be careful not to get hurt again.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll throw this away.” Nanny Yang took it from him and tossed it into the trash can located on that floor.

He didn’t refuse, but his eyes followed the things until they entered the bin before looking away.

The food in the dining room was already prepared. And up until he was done with his meal and the servants started clearing the table, no one else came down.

He asked nonchalantly, “no one else is eating?”

“Madam called to say that she’ll be dining outside. And Miss Tao said that she wouldn’t be eating tonight.”

Not eating?

With such small stature, did she still need to diet? She looked like she would topple over when the wind blew.

Before entering his room, he stood by the door momentarily.

Her door was tightly shut and Qi Yue’s words lingered in his ears. She couldn’t be seriously hurt, right?

**

Tao Yi Xi was hungry, but she didn’t want to move. This time, she sustained quite a bit of injury.

How hateful. Since young, this ‘soft skin and tender flesh’ of hers was unable to withstand even the slightest bit of abuse.

She tiredly scrutinized the mountain of books. She still had a lot of knowledge that she had not fully grasped. Using her arms to support her weight, she slowly trod towards her study table to continue her revision.

Her only goal now was to get into the top university and leave this so-called ‘home’.

No matter how willful Gu Jing Yuan was, his family background was his backing. It was enough for him to support him for the rest of his life.

However, she was not the same. One wrong step and she would lose everything.

Studying was the best way out for her. She did not want to be like her mother; a little woman who always obeyed and submitted to men.

**

Xia Yan only found out that Tao Yi Xi was injured the next day when she saw that she was walking wrong. After all, this was her daughter, so she still felt distressed.

“How did this happen?”

“I accidentally fell.”

“It’s so serious. Let Mother apply for a few days of leave for you and I’ll call for a doctor right away. We don’t even know if it will affect your bones. What if it left a scar?”

Her overly remorseful tone left Tao Yi Xi unable to see if Xia Yan was feeling heartache for her, or for her damaged skin.

“Mom, there’s no need.”

“We must! You don’t understand how important every part of a lady’s body is, every asset is your capital. Hurry back up and rest. Your grades wouldn’t deteriorate if you didn’t go to school for a couple of days.”

Tao Yi Xi was forcibly brought back to the room and coincidentally encountered Gu Jing Yuan who had just woken up.

His hair was messy, but it gave him a more ignorant teenager look. But his expression was not very good; looking grumpy like he was suffering from waking up early. As soon as he opened the door, he was met with the two people that he hated the most, causing his expression to become uglier.

Xia Yan still had to pretend to be oblivious and smiled, “Jing Yuan, you’re up! Quickly wash up and have breakfast. Today Yi Xi can’t accompany you to school so you’ll have to go alone.”

In her mother’s eyes, she was just a servant that accompanied him to study.

Sigh, but those were the facts. If she didn’t have this ‘value’, it was to be estimated that she would’ve been left in that eighteenth-tier city, completely forgotten.

Xia Yan softly reminded her, “Yi Xi, why didn’t you greet him? Don’t be rude.”

“Good morning, Ge-ge.” Tao Yi Xi forced the corners of her lips up into a professional smile.

Gu Jing Yuan cast her another look. Was it really that serious that she couldn’t even attend school?

How frail…

Moreover, who wanted her to accompany him?

It was best without her. Who knows? Maybe Qi Yue would even speak lesser.

**

Tao Yi Xi was cooped up at home for the next few days and never saw Gu Jing Yuan again.

He always left home early and returned back late. Who knew what a rich second-generation, middle schooler even did outside every day.

But thinking about it, he was most likely indulging in a life of luxury.

But soon, his good days had come to an end because Gu Mu Yang returned from his business trip.

Tao Yi Xi came down to pour a glass of water when she heard a muffled sound. It sounded suspiciously like skin being hit.

She slowly approached and from the corner, she saw Gu Jing Yuan being caned by Gu Mu Yang. He stood upright, without batting an eyelid.

“You’re really like a dead pig unafraid of scalding water4 now! Not one of your teachers has anything good to say about you! Repeating a grade, skipping classes, fighting, and hanging out with those rambunctious people outside!”

Gu Mu Yang was incensed, “Look at the way you are now! If your mother sees you like this, it would anger her to death!”

He was able to endure it until Gu Mu Yang blurted that sentence. Gu Jing Yuan reached up and grabbed Gu Mu Yang’s descending cane. The two were in stalemate mid-air.

“You have no right to talk about my mother. She was forced to death by you!” Gu Jing Yuan’s dark eyes stared at Gu Mu Yang. It was as if the person in front of him was not his father, but his enemy.

“You!” Gu Mu Yang became dizzy with anger that he swayed backwards. It frightened Xia Yan as she hurried forward to support him.

Gu Jing Yuan waved off the cane, causing Gu Mu Yang to stagger a couple more steps back.

“You unfilial son!” Gu Mu Yang was so livid that he felt breathless.

“Humph, then don’t have any more expectations of me.”

He left straight away. As he passed her while heading upstairs, Tao Yi Xi could feel the chill emitting from him.

Unfortunately, Gu Mu Yang also spotted her.

“Tao Yi Xi, you come here.”

She didn’t possess the guts like that young master, so she obediently went to him.

“I’ll ask you. Since school started, has he not spent a full day in school?”

“En…”

Gu Mu Yang closed his eyes in desperation. What was he expecting?

“Are you his deskmate currently?”

“Yes.”

“From now on, you’ll follow him. Wherever he goes, you’ll tag along. Report every little detail back to me.”

Tao Yi Xi’s grip on the cup tightened, causing her pink fingertips to turn white.

“Uncle Gu, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Ge-ge definitely wouldn’t agree to this. Plus, he doesn’t like me very much.”

“He has no say in this! If he carries on being like this, he’ll truly become a wastrel and I’ll never allow such a thing to happen in this family!”

Gu Mu Yang was a seasoned capitalist who had been in the field for a long time. His eyes were sharp and could accurately read another person.

“What is it? You’re unwilling?”

Xia Yan immediately remedied, “that’s not the case. Yi Xi told me last time that she would do her best to help her Ge-ge. Isn’t that right, Xiao Xi?”

There was panic and pleading in her mother’s eyes, hoping that she would agree.

Tao Yi Xi closed her eyes and responded, “yes.”

Gu Mu Yang’s expression softened, “Uncle Gu knows that you’re a good child. When you all enter university, Uncle will arrange a good path for you.”

“Then, thank you, Uncle.”

“Mmm, I’ll limit all his cards and leave one with you in case of emergencies. If something happens, you can call me or my assistant, in the event that I’m in a meeting and missed your call.”

“Okay.”

“Yi Xi will definitely do well. Let me bring you up to rest.” Xia Yan took his hand and the two went upstairs.

She was the only one, with no one to rely on.

Once again, many thanks to lil’ brother and darling Islanor for help with the gaming terms!
