While Xiang Ning pondered, five Slaughter flying knives appeared around Nathan, who now stood opposite him. They were similar to Xiang Ning’s Hunter knives, though different models were named differently.
“Wow, he’s planning to fight Xiang Ning with his flying knives.”
“As expected. I guessed it the moment he said he was a spiritual cultivator. Xiang Ning’s close combat and observational skills are strong, so to avoid those, the best solution is to fight as a spiritual cultivator.”
The other students nodded in agreement with the analysis. Nathan indeed didn’t need to get close to Xiang Ning, fighting him from far.
“This is bad, Xiang Ning could be in danger.” They grew worried. How would Xiang Ning deal with this?
“Doesn’t Xiang Ning have the Shadowmist Ghost Step? He should be able to break free from the knives and get a chance to fight in close combat,” a girl weakly suggested.
“Let’s not forget that Nathan’s also a tier three, nine-star martial artist. Xiang Ning can’t beat him with just one strike even if he gets close.”
The crowd grew sullen. It was true that his opponent was stronger. With five flying knives and his martial abilities, Xiang Ning was set to lose.
Xiang Ning looked at the levitating knives and scratched his head. “Alright, let’s fight as spiritual cultivators then.”
What happened next made jaws drop everywhere.
“Wow! What just happened? Xiang Ning has such strong Mental Power too?”
“Hehe, why’s it so surprising that he’s also a strong spiritual cultivator?”
“Hahaha, he’s Teacher Xiang Ning, after all!”
Five Hunter flying knives levitated around Xiang Ning.
Nathan was surprised to see Xiang Ning controlling five knives, but he didn’t think numbers meant stronger opponents. He chose to only use five knives so he wouldn’t waste too much Mental Power. Although he agreed that Xiang Ning was strong, he wouldn’t treat Xiang Ning as an equal. It didn’t matter how many knives there were, the only thing that mattered was how powerful each of them was. A tier two spiritual cultivator could control five knives, but they would be nowhere as powerful as a tier three cultivator with five knives.
“Not bad, I’m surprised. However, do you think this means we’re equals?” The five knives turned into flowing lights, flying at Xiang Ning at high speeds. There was no question that any impact would be fatal.
Xiang Ning smiled without a word, standing his ground without moving a muscle. His knives slowly circled his body, much slower than the knives charging at him.
“What’s Xiang Ning doing? How will his slow knives beat Nathan?”
The Qiling Academy students furrowed their brows, but what happened next made their eyes widen in shock as they questioned if they had made a mistake. The five knives flying at Xiang Ning suddenly separated, then flew directly at Xiang Ning from five different directions. And what about Xiang Ning’s five knives?
They suddenly appeared on the trajectory of Nathan’s knives, perfectly blocking each attack.
The sound of five weapons clashing brought their dazed senses back.

“Why does it look like Nathan’s weapons are targeting Xiang Ning’s knives?”
“That can’t be a coincidence, I wouldn’t have been surprised if one of them hit Xiang Ning!”
Even Nathan couldn’t keep his calm, realizing that he had either made a mistake or Xiang Ning had a secret trick up his sleeve. Xiang Ning was clearly using his knives as defenses, and they were slow, too. That had made Nathan let his guard down, even ignoring their presence. But just as his knives were about twenty centimeters away from Xiang Ning, they were all stopped, surprising him. However, it was just a surprise, not a reason to worry.
He nonchalantly smiled. “You blocked them all! But what if I add one more?” Nathan controlled another Slaughter knife while the five blades returned to his side.
The confident crowd swallowed their surging emotions. Right, he was a tier three, nine-star martial artist. Five was nowhere near his limit, right?
“Actually, I think it’s better we fight as martial artists.” Xiang Ning smiled and kept his knives, speaking sincerely. He was exasperated, because he was there to earn Experience Points. Although he could still earn points from knife attacks, those knives looked as good as his own Hunter blades. That meant they could break through tier four beast defenses, and while getting hit could earn him Experience Points, he might lose an arm or a leg. He definitely didn’t want that.
However, to the crowd, Xiang Ning was admitting defeat. Feng Yi, who had been holding back for so long, finally had a chance to speak. “Hehe, every person has both weaknesses and strengths.” Her tone irritated many people.
“Hey, whose side are you on!”
“Tsk, don’t you question me with your useless opinions, you saw how strong Xiang Ning was in close combat. Of course he’s going to capitalize on his strengths, right?” Feng Yi coldly smiled.
The other people fell silent.
“Xiang Ning, face him like a man! You’re embarrassing Qiling Academy when you make requests like that!” the other special trainees yelled. Weren’t you supposed to be very strong?
Nathan naturally heard them, too. He smiled without a word, six blades now hurling toward Xiang Ning.
Nathan wasn’t stupid either, and had similar thoughts. He was wary of Xiang Ning’s observational skills. Although he was confident he could beat his opponent, what if Xiang Ning revealed too many of his weaknesses? And those weaknesses were used against him back at Aurig? Not just his own clan members, who were eyeing his position as the future head of the clan, there were still three other families aiming to ruin him.
“Alright then, I’ll entertain you.” As he spoke, Xiang Ning controlled six blades like him, blocking all six blades.
The scene didn’t calm the students’ nerves, because they knew that the more blades a spiritual cultivator controlled, the more difficult it was and the more energy it depleted.
They didn’t think that Xiang Ning was as strong as Nathan. He was a tier three, nine-star cultivator, after all, just shy of tier four. What about Xiang Ning? Tier three, four-stars at most! While that was terrifying, it was nothing against Nathan!
