Li Zimo, Fang Rou, and Wu Rui had the opposite reactions to the Karan tribesmen. They were confused by the beasts’ odd behavior at first, but after they heard the motor sound and the cautious reactions of the beasts it was too obvious—how could they not think of it?

Yes, reinforcements were there. The kind that were strong enough to make the beasts cautious. They thought it was their instructor.

“Great, help is here! Team leader, we’re saved!” Charotis’ teammate was helping him retreat to one side. The poison from the Demonpede had already seeped into his system. If he continued fighting, his circulation would only speed up and he would die.

“He’s here.” Fang Rou stood in front. Her hair flew in the gusts of wind as she enjoyed the cool breeze blowing across her damp forehead. It felt good.

“What the hell? What’s going on? Is our instructor’s aura that powerful? The beasts made way for him?!”

As the sound approached, the beasts frantically ran in the opposite direction. There wasn’t a single beast in the middle, as if a path had been cleared.

Only the three Beast Generals stayed, but they were shaking—especially the Crimson Fangs. After the fight with the two teams, the thirty-one-strong pack had dwindled to nineteen. They were already the stronger ones of the pack, but if it weren’t for the control exerted by their alpha, they would have run as well.

Boom!

A truck burst out of the trees. The beasts instantly entered their most threatening attack stances, sensing that their lives were in danger. The three Beast Generals coldly glared at the truck, or rather at the person at the gun port.

“Hmm? It isn’t our instructor, who is that? Another squad?”

The Karan tribesmen frowned. When Fang Rou saw him, she didn't feel as impulsive as she thought she would be. She had an indescribable feeling that, as long as he was here, everything would be fine.

As if he didn’t see the beasts, Xiang Ning leapt from the truck and ran toward Fang Rou, passing the Slaughter Python. The python was startled by Xiang Ning’s speed and instinctively attacked him.

“Is he mad?”

“Didn’t he see the Slaughter Python?”

“It’s too fast, he’s going to get strangled!”

Did Xiang Ning know how strong the Slaughter Python was? The tier four, eight-star Demonpede could crush a truck with its mandibles. The Slaughter Python, while six stars weaker, could squeeze a truck into a tube, destroying it further.

To be honest, he wasn’t aware. He just felt something shoot out at him and instinctively slashed. The Devourer weighed five hundred kilograms at this point. With that strike, the Slaughter Python immediately saw stars.

A crack burst open at the Slaughter Python’s ‘seven-inch spot’. [1] Although it wasn’t severe damage—it was only a minor external injury to the snake—the Karan tribesmen’s eyes widened. It wasn’t an easy feat to injure the snake; it was a tier four Beast General with solid scales. They’d all fought it for so long and had only left a few white scratches on its body, very few of them drawing blood.

But what did this random person do? He gave it one slash and successfully broke through the python’s defenses.

Wu Rui and the rest remained unfazed, though.

Xiang Ning arrived before Fang Rou and pulled her straight into his arms. She felt her tight muscles instantly relax, similarly opening her arms to hug him and taking a deep inhale of his scent. Just like the time at Tranquil City, he had arrived like a hero in a fairytale.

Wu Rui, Liu Ruoxue, Li Zimo, and Lu Shiyu were all overjoyed—their rock was here.

Of course, there were people who grew worried too. When they saw Xiang Ning pull Fang Rou into his arms, the Karan tribesmen finally understood why Wu Rui had said what he did.

‘I only have one worthy opponent.’

‘You? Who do you think you are?’

‘Be prepared.’

“Hahaha, alright, there’s no need for me to do anything. He’s going to make you pay for what you did.”

Charotis was puzzled by this person that Wu Rui seemed to revere. He was only sixty percent confident against Wu Rui, so how strong would that person be in comparison? Now, his questions had been answered. He now knew that his, or rather, their, day would not end well. They had brought harm to the guy’s girlfriend, would they be let off that easily?

On the other side, Li Zihao was stroking his chin. “Tsk, tsk, indeed, love makes one stronger.” Although he had known that Xiang Ning was rushing to Fortress One due to an emergency, he hadn’t expected it to be his girlfriend. To be honest, he felt both jealousy and admiration. That was just the difference between Xiang Ning and them.

Letting go of Fang Rou, Xiang Ning activated Keen Observation to check their statuses. He was alarmed to find that they were all poisoned, particularly Wu Rui. The poison was already entering his heart.

“Drink this.” Xiang Ning took out a few bottles of his healing potion. Although he didn’t know if it would be effective, at least it would replenish some of their energy. Other than Wu Rui, everyone else was only mildly poisoned. As long as they stopped inhaling the poison, their symptoms would disappear.

“That’s them.” Wu Rui’s eyebrows were knitted, glancing at Charotis.

Xiang Ning shook his head, implying that they would resolve their current problems before discussing the topic.

The beasts hadn’t done much since his appearance, all of them cautious of his aura. But when they saw the tiny human slowly approaching, the violent instinct within each beast was triggered.

“What is he doing? Is he planning to challenge three Beast Generals alone?” gasped Charotis to himself. He could accept that Xiang Ning was strong, but not to that point! Those were three tier four Beast Generals! If he crossed that stream, there were even more terrifying beasts which had killed thousands of soldiers! Since when was killing beasts like slaughtering chickens? But then he finally understood that, to some people, it really was like slaughtering chickens.

Xiang Ning took a deep breath. He was quite satisfied with the three beasts; they would be perfect sparring partners. However, he wasn’t sure if the healing potions could suppress the poison in his teammates’ bodies so it was best to take them to treatment as soon as possible.

One moment, all was calm. In the next moment, the world shook!

“Eight Gates! Gate of Origin! Gate of Resting! Gate of Life! Gate of Pain! Gate of Resolution! Open them all!”

Status: Limit Breakthrough

Level: Tier five, one-star (Eight Gates)

1. The seven-inch spot is a common term for the segment a little further from a snake’s head. That’s where a snake’s heart is, hence a common Chinese household saying to ‘strike a snake at its seven-inch spot’ to kill it. ☜
