Chapter 36 Hair Loss

The three of them met many people along the way, including Fang Rou. Xiang Ning told Li Zimo and Liu Ruoxue he would meet them in the conference room, then went after Fang Rou.

“Fang Rou.” Xiang Ning walked up to her.

“Xiang Ning? How’re your injuries?” asked Fang Rou, concerned. He had been severely injured yesterday, and she had no idea what had caused them.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. Look, I’m alright now.” He patted his chest with a grin.

Fang Rou took a glance and was left astonished. “What’s your body made of? I can’t believe you healed so quickly! You almost died, your chest was dented inward—if it weren’t for my brother, it’s likely you wouldn’t have survived.” She made sure to put in a few rare good words for her brother. Just to save Xiang Ning’s life, he had spent his entire life savings—although the dojo’s resources belonged to their family, not even they were allowed to use them without good reason. Recovery fluid was extracted from Beast Kings, after all.

“Yeah, please thank him well for me.” Being a grateful person, Xiang Ning kept this act of kindness close to his heart.

“Alright, alright, there’s no need to be too formal. Let’s head to the conference room,” said Fang Rou, entering the room.

The conference room was big enough to accommodate two hundred people. It was currently filled, and on the chairperson’s platform was a black-clad man standing in a majestic pose. He didn’t utter a single word, but his stoic demeanor was enough to intimidate the students. The room fell into a strange silence.

The man had tanned skin and an obvious scar on his neck that looked like a wound from a fearsome beast. He was muscular, too, every inch of him seemed to be bursting with power.

Fang Rou took a look at him, then whispered to Xiang Ning, “I know this man, he’s an instructor from the southeast military zone. I’ve seen him at the dojo, he’s close to my father. His name is Lei Zhongyuan!”

“What is his cultivation level?”

“Tier six martial artist, I think, but that was two years ago,” whispered Fang Rou.

Xiang Ning nodded. “Tier six. I heard a casual punch from one is the equivalent of three tons of force, and they can run hundreds of meters per second. Their reaction speed allows them to dodge bullets…. They really are in peak physical form.”

“You’re right, our strength is only equivalent to about three hundred kilograms and he’s ten times stronger than us. That’s just a casual punch, too,” Fang Rou sighed.

At that moment, a tall, thin man with soft features entered. He was clad in white robes, like a doctor.

Fang Rou gasped.

“You know him too?”

“You don’t?” Fang Rou incredulously looked at Xiang Ning.

“He’s a famous prodigy from Marsh City—one of the Twelve Great Prodigies, Dong Qianyi! They’re all extremely knowledgeable prodigies that invented many of the scientific inventions we use today!” she excitedly explained.

Xiang Ning nodded. “That’s cool. But he’ll see losses in his future.”

Fang Rou paused. “What?”

“Hair loss,” Xiang Ning solemnly replied.

Fang Rou was flabbergasted. She didn’t want to talk to him anymore.

On the platform, Lei Zhongyuan spoke. “My surname is Lei, you may call me Instructor Lei. I’ll be your instructor from today onward, and I’ll teach you how to kill a beast in the shortest time possible.”

The room burst into conversation. Someone raised their hand, and Instructor Lei gestured for them to ask their question. “Instructor Lei, if I remember correctly, doesn’t the Federation ban minors under eighteen from venturing into the wilderness to hunt?”

“Yes, but also no. I believe your teachers explained the special circumstances after yesterday’s physical exam. There’s no need for us to hide the truth, either. We’ve chosen you all to be trained to hunt and kill fearsome beasts!” Instructor Lei’s words shook the room.

Before today, many students thought the school merely intended to give them special classes because of their talents. But this… this was unbelievable.

“I’ll tell you this—during training, you may get injured, you may become disabled, and you may even lose your lives. You now have one chance to walk out of this room.” Instructor Lei scanned the room like a hawk.

Xiang Ning furrowed his brow, but remained silent. Based on what Instructor Lei was saying, this was a special class indeed. He deeply understood Instructor Lei’s words due to his past encounters with fearsome beasts. If they were going to teach him how to hunt and kill them, he would be happy to stay. For himself, and also for his little sister.

Very soon, the first person stood up, then the second…. In the end, a third of the room left.

Fang Rou watched as they left. She didn’t scoff, nor did she laugh at their choices. They were no cowards, just people who had made choices for their life path. Those who left in the middle of training would be the true traitors.

She sighed, then Xiang Ning suddenly stood up.

“You’re leaving too?” Fang Rou was surprised. Xiang Ning looked down and tugged at his pants.

“I’m just straightening my pants, why?”

Fang Rou facepalmed.

Xiang Ning was perplexed when he saw Fang Rou turn away, upset. Was it something he said? She was confusing.

“Very good. I see everyone here has made their choice. After this, Mr. Dong will brief you on the rest of the classes.” Lei Zhongyuan surveyed the remaining students, satisfied. There were exactly forty students left.

Dong Qianyu walked up and smiled at the audience. “Good afternoon everyone, my surname is Dong. You may call me Mr. Dong. I’ve decided to supply free weapons and combat uniforms for each student. For your safety, this is a small gadget my team and I invented that’ll save you when your life is in danger. I hope everyone will be able to safely complete the entire training course.”

The crowd looked at each other. In the Federation, only adults above eighteen with the cultivation of at least a martial artist were allowed to carry weapons. Underage students only used special rubber replicas in school, or weapons in virtual reality for cultivation purposes.

But this was reality.

“Alright, come get your weapons and uniforms! Remember, you may only use them in certain areas in the school, please don’t bring them out of campus. You’re being monitored.” Dong Qianyi smiled, squinting at the audience.

Xiang Ning felt a chill down his spine. People with squinting eyes were not to be trusted!
