Natalia rolled her eyes at the bickering and walked aside to study the door. The other three awkwardly smiled, then walked away to look for ways to get to other places.

Seeing as everyone had left, Nathan huffed coldly and went up to Natalia. Did all these idiots think he was arguing with Xiang Ning out of boredom? It’s to save face! I’m just drawing your attention away! Now he had a reason to follow Natalia again, just in case his girlfriend messed with something and scared everyone again.

When Xiang Ning was also about to go look at the door, strange sounds came from the tunnel. People?

Everyone there was above tier five. When they heard the commotion, they looked at each other, took out their weapons, and approached the hatch. If robots came out, they would slash so hard the robots’ heads would fly.

The sounds came closer and closer. They heard faint voices and looked at each other again, frowning, eyes darting around.

Nathan: “Voices?”

Natalia: “Could they be robots?”

Person 1: “Unclear. Should we wait for them to appear before striking?”

Person 2: “We’ll see. We should confirm if there’s a threat before striking.”

Person 3: “That works.”

Xiang Ning: “Alright. Strike immediately?”

Everyone nodded. Xiang Ning nodded. Then, all eyes were on the exit. As long as something appeared, he would attack. No one actually realized what he had ‘said’.

About ten seconds later.

“Wait. There’s an exit here! It’s marked!”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure, this is the exit!”

“Wait, we should check?”

Nathan looked at Natalia, then at the rest, who nodded knowingly. They all felt relieved, the tight grips on their weapons relaxed, and they slowly put them down.

Only Xiang Ning was still staring at the exit with intense focus, not noticing the rest of their reactions. Hmmph, bastard robots! These are tricks used on children, how could they think it’d work on me?

Then a head popped up from the hatch and Xiang Ning slashed his sword down. Everyone’s eyes widened. What happened to not striking first! Even if you aren’t sure, you didn’t have to strike the moment it appeared! And that was a real human too!

Did you see any dark-skinned robots just now?!

The person who had peeked first was a martial artist from what used to be called Africa. Due to the natural environment there, with many ferocious beasts, Africa had been hit hard during the Great Disaster. Due to its low population and weak government, they couldn’t hold off the beasts and were forced to scatter across the globe.

“Oh, shit!” The moment he peeked out, he felt the aura of death. Tier five martial artists had great sixth senses. A normal person could feel slight discomfort when something bad was about to happen, but a tier five could feel death approaching very quickly. That was the main advantage of advancing to tier five—it wasn’t an elevation of strength, but the sixth sense.

Before Xiang Ning’s sword touched him, he screamed. Thankfully, his scream was fast, loud, special, and ‘artistic’ enough, or the blade would have cut through him.

Xiang Ning managed to stop because that sound couldn’t have been made by a robot, it was too… emotional. He stopped at the very last second, so the blade only sliced the skin a little. There was a bit of blood, but nothing serious. But the sharpness and coldness of the sword was enough for the tier five African martial artist to yell for his parents.

Everyone else finally exhaled the breaths they had been holding for the past three seconds. Fuck! That was so close! If he’d hurt the man’s spine, the man would’ve died. If he’d severed an important nerve, not even God could save him.

“Oh my fucking god!” A minute later, seven more people emerged from the tunnel. The person whose head had almost been chopped off rubbed his neck, still sprouting cold sweat.

“Heh, brother, you have a very thick Northeastern Chinese accent!”

“Are you from the Northeast, brother?”

“Oh, no!”

“You don’t even look Northeastern! No one from there can be this dark.”

“My grandfather is from Africa, he migrated to Northeastern China. I’m the only one in my entire family that’s this dark.”

One of the people from Xiang Ning’s group started chatting with the African man. Xiang Ning coughed; everything would be fine as long as the guy didn’t come looking for him.

Another person dragged him aside. “What were you doing? Didn’t we discuss beforehand and agree to strike only when there’s danger? There was only one route, it never would’ve been ten robots at a time. We could’ve killed one by one!”

“Huh? Didn’t you guys say to strike immediately?”

“What?” The rest of them looked at Xiang Ning strangely.

“Just pretend I didn’t say that. Let me repeat myself: I just wanted to prank him. See, isn’t he alright now? These are ancient ruins, it’s been eight thousand years! Those robots could move, I don’t think it’d be too far off if they could imitate human speech, right? We had voice recordings centuries ago!” Xiang Ning held up eight fingers as he solemnly explained.

The person merely chuckled. You asked me to pretend you didn’t say anything, then you repeat yourself. Are you stupid or have I gone crazy? Anyway, the misunderstanding had been cleared. He had thought Xiang Ning was up to something, but it was just a misunderstanding.

Watching them leave, Xiang Ning patted his chest. He was lucky the case was closed or they would complain his IQ was too low. The plan was just too simple; he had thought high-profile people like those always came up with complicated plans. Xiang Ning didn’t grow up in that environment and had thought they were talking in double meaning. He observed the eight more people who appeared. All of them had sustained injuries and burns; he wondered what happened.
