Xiang Ning’s strength was currently at rock bottom and he felt more and more hollow. His Mental Power was slowly declining as well, but he forced himself to stay conscious as long as possible.

The monster had already climbed through the broken door. Its razor-sharp claws dragged across the metallic floor, filling the room with a continuous screeching sound. Xiang Ning heard the sound of death all around him. He also felt his head becoming heavier as he struggled to breathe. Fear had claimed his heart, as he had never been so close to death before. He no longer had an ounce of energy left in his body, not even the strength to lift his hand and drink a healing potion.

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from bit.ly/3iBfjkV.

The feeling of helplessness soon claimed him as he finally fell unconscious. At the same time, the monster was losing its patience. But Xiang Ning was truly lucky, as it was a blessing in disguise! Due to his diminished strength and aura, the monster couldn’t pinpoint his position even when he wasn’t using Disguise.

The monster started trashing the room in frustration and anger. It even threw away the mattress that hid the storage compartment. Luckily it didn’t bother opening the compartment; instead, it howled and quickly left the room to search other places.

Just as it left the room, Xiang Ning’s armor deactivated and he fell out of the compartment, still unconscious.

......

On the other side, it has been ten minutes since Nathan and the rest had left the room. They needed to head back to the place with the thousands of robots after they received a transmission saying that the metal door had been opened.

The martial artists had found the thousands of robots and engaged them in battle. Thanks to their hot weapons and excellent equipment, the robots had all been destroyed in less than thirty minutes. It was only when one of them tried contacting the other team that they realized what had happened.

The martial artists who were escaping through the vent found out that reinforcements were coming and wanted to head back to the previous room where they had fought the monster, but Nathan stopped them. He was the final person that had entered the vent. He’d wanted to wait for Xiang Ning, but what had happened after he made it into the vent had almost caused him to empty his stomach. He had never heard such horrifying cries coming from martial artists. Pieces of flesh fell through the grate as the massacre happened above. He stayed near the grate until the sounds died down and blood flowed through the grate like a river. He finally left after he was sure that Xiang Ning was dead, then caught up with Natalia and the rest.

“Trust me, that is an extremely dangerous place. I was the last one to leave and the rest of the tier five martial artists were all killed within twenty seconds. There were more than ten of them, yet none of them could fight off the monster!” Nathan tried his best to convince them.

Did they believe him? They did, but they knew the ruins were dangerous. That was why they still wanted to move forward. This time they prepared a lot more weapons and people to explore together.

Nathan had said his part and relented. Natalia was bandaging him up when she asked about Xiang Ning. “So… where is he?”

“No clue. He didn’t make it down with me, but I heard the monster crying out in pain and anger. It seems that Xiang Ning might’ve managed to land a blow on it and ran away.”

“What?! To think that he could actually leave a mark on that monster!” Nathan stared at Natalia as she paused for a bit, thoughts racing through her head. “Should we report it? It’s an opportunity to garner some favors from China.”

“Let’s wait for a bit. I hope we’ll be able to get some information from the people that’re entering now. We’ll only report the situation to China after there’s been no news from Xiang Ning for twenty-four hours.”

Natalia took a step back and stood up. “What should we do now, then?”

“We wait.”

In another part of the ruins, Moray had just escaped outside. The heir to the Dexter Corporation was currently taking deep breaths of the outside air and contacted his team. The team stationed at Kunlun City immediately rushed over the moment they received the message. In just under an hour, a flying ship arrived to retrieve him.

“Young master, what happened to you?”

“Save your breath! We need to leave now!” Moray finally felt safer after he was onboard the ship. The monster…. All those who venture down below will die! He arrived back in Kunlun City after an hour or so and immediately ordered his men to run a background check on Xiang Ning. Unfortunately, the information he managed to obtain was more or less shallow.

“Damn. To think that he’d die there. How am I supposed to feel satisfied if he died just like that?!”

“Young master, it seems that he has a sister in Marsh City.”

Moray’s grin was ice-cold when he heard that. As long as we know where she is.…

......

Back in the ruins, Xiang Ning had been unconscious for three hours when his body shuddered and he woke up. He was completely out of strength and couldn’t move. The only thing he managed to do was to roll over and gasp for air.

“Looks like I’m a lucky bastard.” Xiang Ning chuckled as he rested for half an hour before finally managing to drink a healing potion. It took him some time before he could finally sit up. He found a place to sit and rest before drinking another healing potion. He estimated that he had recovered 20% of his strength. But he was still in no condition to fight. His muscles and veins would burst the moment he suffered another strong impact. The only thing he could do was to wait for tomorrow.

It was three hours away.

That was excellent news for Xiang Ning. Also, the monster had left and probably wouldn’t return anymore. He found a good spot to hide and started using his breathing technique. He rarely used it, but it was very useful to calm his body down. He didn’t bring out a spirit stone to speed up the process, though, because he was afraid that the monster would find him the moment he did so.

He checked his status and was shocked to see the numbers. Was this a blessing in disguise?
