Chapter 1: 0: Oh shit…

November 25, 2044. 

 

In a lab on an unknown island…

 

“If we add a nitrogen base to this, would it solve the problem?”

 

“It would, but then it would cause another issue…”

 

“God damn it! We are lacking in funds and our countries don't want to give us more because we aren’t showing any more progress. I feel like if we had gotten the funds we needed for the past 5 years, we would have already made the serum.”

 

“Bro, shut up and help us for now. Hey, who is operating the claw machine?”

 

“Twas me, sire.”

 

“Stop moving it. What if you accidentally bust something and blow up the lab?”

 

“Aye. I’ll shut it off for now.”

 

Wrooooo. 

 

The claw machine moved to the side and stopped. The 9 men and women frantically scribbled on their note and looked at the lump of flesh floating in the tube. 

 

They have spent the past 10 years trying to create a serum to regenerate flesh and bone. However, 5 years ago, they reached a bottleneck and weren't able to further the research anymore. Each flesh took a significant amount of resources and time to form and they didn’t have much time left. This flesh was the last they could make, hence they are running the computers to see the future results if they added something. 

 

“Our problem right now is that it isn’t powerful enough to regrow bones but it is able to regrow flesh. However, the side effect is too harsh to be used for everyday issues and its lifetime is too short.”

 

“Hey, how about we use arsenic? It’s able to preserve wood and I don’t see why we can’t add it in.”

 

“Well… Let’s run it through the computer first.”

 

The man looked at the guy on the computer and that guy nodded. An hour later, they found out there was no severe reaction and proceeded to add arsenic to the lump of flesh. The flesh turned a little silver white and started pulsing hard. All was within calculations. 

 

“Alright, take a sample and leave it out to see how long it lasts.”

 

The man operating the claw machine carefully scraped a little flesh off and sealed it in a test tube. 7 members of the group went to rest while the other 2 watched the test tube.

 

The next day…

 

“So how is it?”

 

“It’s still lasting. Me and Silvia are going to take our break now. Make sure to wait till we are up to do anything else.”

 

“Yea yea yea. Go on. We’ll continue on watching the thing and focus on running more trials on the computer.”

 

The Asian man and the Russian woman left to take their sleeping break.

 

5 hours 23 minutes later. 2:13 P.M.

 

“Xiang! Silvia! You’ve gotta wake up, we found a new result based on the computer!”

 

Xiang woke up groggy and in anger. 

 

“Joe, if this is some bull crap, then don’t blame me for being impolite. You know how hard it is to make even a little progress and we just did yesterday. Did you step on some lucky dog shit?” 

 

Although Xiang was grumbling, he still woke up and headed towards the lab. Silvia was still sleeping and they didn’t bother her. 

 

In the lab…

 

“Hey where’s Silvia?”

 

“Oh she’s still asleep.”

An European man setted up a camera and started recording themselves. 

 

“Okay. The flesh sample lasted 38 hours and then finally rotted. That is a whopping 30 more hours than previously. Now, we will add Iodine. According to the computer, adding this will not only extend the shelf life, but also allow us to regrow the bones of organisms. Alright Fujiwara, start it.”

 

The man named Fujiwara nodded and started the injection machine. The needle was 0.0000001 centimeters wide and 1 foot long. The needle stabbed into the lump of flesh and injected one atom of Iodine. Then, it turned to the rotten scrap of flesh and added an atom of Iodine to it as well. 

 

“Alright Fujiwara, you can turn off the machine now. After an hour, we can scrape off a sample and feed it a rabbit or something and see what will happen.”

 

Fujiwara nodded and proceeded to turn off the atom injection machine. As he hovered his finger above the power button, he trembled a bit and accidentally pressed a button that was shaped like a water droplet.

 

“Oh shit! I’m accidentally adding water to the experiment!” 

 

“Fuck! Start the claw machine and intercept it!”

 

“Too late!”

 

The 8 of them fell in despair after seeing the injection machine inject an atom of water into both lumps of flesh. However, to their surprise, nothing happened. Previously, the computers would show that the flesh would explode and cause an explosion like an I.E.D. 

 

“Damn! Fujiwara, be careful next time. Thank god nothing happened.”

 

“*Phew*. I think we all should take a break and ask Silvia to take over the shift right now.”

 

“Aye let’s go.”

 

Just when they were about to leave the lab, they heard squishing noises. They turned around to look but they couldn’t find anything. However, an African was trembling while pointing his finger somewhere.

 

“Jesus Christ, motherfucking god, holy asshole!”

 

“What Bob?”

 

“#$#@! Turn around, take a look and run.”

 

After spitting that out, Bob turned and ran for his dear life. Not understanding, the group of 7 looked around the lab and finally noticed what Bob was freaked out about. 

 

The lump of flesh started growing. It grew an inch until it became the size of a basketball. Then a head, 2 hands, 2 legs began to form. When it became the size of a cucumber, the thing began to grow again, inch by inch until it became an adult sized human. 

 

By the time the thing grew limbs, the science team had already fled in horror. However, they underestimated the amount of time the thing needed to grow. Before the science group was able to reach the end of the first corridor, they heard a loud explosion in the lab. Eyes wide open, clear with fear, they felt a burst of strength as their legs took them faster than ever. 

 

However, they were only human while that ‘thing’ was artificially created to be a supreme serum meant to cure. The ‘thing’ was able to transform into a human and that wasn’t a good thing. By the time they’ve reached the second corridor, the wall in front of them was bust down. Dust covered their front and they all skidded to a halt. 

 

“Oh shit. We’re all dead. Not even Jesus Christ can save us.”

 

“Oh fuck, is that Bob’s head in it’s mouth?!”

 

The ‘thing’ in front of them was chewing Bob’s head slowly. They all cringed in horror as they even heard the bones being chewed on. After the ‘thing’ swallowed Bob, its body swelled and finally grew features. Eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and hairs grow on its head. Fingers and joints appeared on its 4 limbs. However, there were rotten fleshes all over its body and instead of a healthy pink on its body, it was all gray. 

 

“Hey… Don’t you think…”

 

“No… No way…”

 

“We might have just killed the world. Good thing that it’s on an island. I mean, it can’t swim to the mainland right?”

 

“Fuck that! Is that a mother fucking zombie?”

 

But before they could have another thought, their heads were lopped off their body and blood spurted out like a fountain.
