[They're very close. I can feel it. Why did I have to go snooping around? No one asked me to. I'm probably going to die soon, so this might be my last journal entry.

I first noticed something was wrong when I got a message from one of my friends, she asked me if I had pissed someone off, because some of Pain Federation's  military had shown up at her door step asking her, no, she said asking her wasn't the right word, it was more like ordering her to tell them where I was disguised as a request.

She said she bluffed and pointed them in the wrong direction. After she told me these things, my blood ran cold. I couldn't understand why they would come after me, after all, to my knowledge I had never angered them or even come into close contact with them.

That's when I remembered. I had that book, one that explicitly said it was the Pain Federation's secret records. How could  I have been so stupid? It was clearly not gotten legally. Moreover, in the midst of my excitement in getting a text that was very old, I never asked the guy where he got it from. Who was he, to be able to get something that should've under lock and key? And the most important question, why did he give it to me? Have I been used?

If anyone finds this journal in the future, look for Sarah Dorman. Knowing her, if I suddenly disappear, she'll at least find some information about what happened to me.

What am I even saying? If someone finds this journal, they'll get rid of it. I know it's what I would do. I don't really have any hope that someone will, but if you do, please find Sarah. If I'm going to die, I at least want someone to find out what's really going on.

My final warning to whoever finds this, is to fear the Black Rose.............Excerpt from: THE PERSONAL JOURNAL OF ARCHIS PEHARON]

[George's POV]

"Are you questioning my judgment?"

Professor A's cold eyes looked down on me while I swallowed. I couldn't answer.

"I asked you a question."

I still didn't answer.

"As you're not answering, I can assume you're not following an order, right?"

Only then did I manage to stutter out a response.

"N-No sir. I-I'm not trying to question your authority. I'm just worried about the wellbeing of those who will be undergoing the test."

Professor A looked down on me with a piercing gaze.

"You're just worried?"

He gave a little laugh.

"Yes, of course. You should be worried. Do you know why you should be worried?"

I didn't respond.

"I asked you a question."

"I don't know."

"That's right, you don't know. Let me enlighten you."

He walked away from me and towards the center of the room.

"The reason those of you in the group on the left side are going into the capsules again is because you have not awakened your Hani."

Wait, what? Alistair hasn't awakened his Hani?

I looked towards the group on the left side. They looked like they had eaten something bad, but Alistair looked calm.

"As they have not awakened, they will be undergoing the test again, but this time it will be a little different. Since you didn't awaken last time, we will increase the dosage of the poison to increase your chances this time. If you didn't awaken last time, just blame your luck."

"Increasing the dosage? What if they die?"

Someone from the my group spoke out. I turned to see Josephine with the half-elf, Amanda Fiand, behind her

Professor A gave another laugh.

"'What if they die?' That, little girl, is exactly what we want. The weeds need to separated from the good crops. That's the way this place works."

"When the weak are gone, that's when the fun will start."

Josephine had a horrified look on her face. She addressed her people with tears streaming down her face.

"Remember when I said I want us to leave this place together, that was the truth. Please hold on. If I could be there with you, I would. I wish I could go through it in your place."

I was seriously moved by her words.

How can she be so kind? There's no way I would ever want to take their place. It was already painful enough last time, now that they've increased the dosage, I definitely wouldn't be able to take it.

It seemed like her people were also moved by her. They now looked at Professor A with resolute faces. Well except for two people, a guy and a girl. They looked at each other like they had made a decision.

To my surprise, they started to run.

"Josephine, we're sorry. We really wanted to make it out of here with you, but we can't go through that pain again. We would rather die painlessly than to experience that again."

I was really shocked. They're actually choosing to die?

They were sprinting towards the exit. They had almost made it there when Professor A' s voice rang out.

"Who said you would die painlessly?"

At his words, they fell to the ground. They were quite panicked.

"What's going on? What'd they do to us?"

Professor A walked towards them slowly. With every step he took, the room got colder and colder until it felt like it was freezing.

"You fools. Did you think we could only make you explode? If you did, you were quite wrong. Allow me demonstrate the things we can do with you."

Suddenly, one of the guy's  legs twisted.

"AAAAAAHHHHH!"

A blood-curling scream came out of his mouth.

Both of the girl's arms bent in ways they weren't supposed to.

"AIIIIIIEEEEEEE!"

I suddenly felt the urge to vomit. The scene was just too horrifying.

The torture continued. bones were broken, skin was pulled off, eyes were pulled out, all sorts of things were done to them.

All I wanted to do wanted to do was look away, but it was like some mysterious power kept me from turning my head. It was the same for all the others. I had even vomited by this point, as had most of the others.

Finally they died. Josephine shouted their names and fell to the ground sobbing. All I could do was look at the scene, my mind just replaying the images again and again.

Professor A turned to us, with a cruel smile on his face.

"Now,  I hope someone won't get any funny ideas, like thinking they can escape pain by choosing to die. If you do, your end won't be pleasant."
