“Swish!”
Jiang Yi maneuvered through the valley with speed. The entire area might be pitch-black, but the first thing that Jiang Yi did was to channel a wisp of black essence force to enhance his vision. Right now, the pitch-black valley had no difference to Jiang Yi as though it was the middle of the day.
As he was maneuvering, he let his hair loose and put on the mask that Qian Wanguan provided to him the last time, causing his outward appearance to change drastically.
His mind was thinking quickly; his expression looked indifferent and didn’t have any hint of fluster. He took a few moments to link all the crucial information and now had more confidence in surviving this situation.
It was obvious that the enemy came prepared and had done some calculations. This valley was set as the assassination point long beforehand. The opposition first used three formidable demonic beasts to lure away the three principals while creating chaos. When the prior preparations came into play, they would send out their assassins to kill him within all the chaotic commotion.
Since the enemy made so many setups, they certainly wouldn’t try to publicly start a battle. It also meant that the number of assassins that sneaked in would be limited, and they wouldn’t be of Soul Travel Realm. If not, everything would become too obvious, and Jiang Yi’s death would garner too much attention and suspicion. It might just end up alerting the Western Garrison Liege Lord. ( NovelFull )
Since there wasn’t a large number of assassins, his survival rate was rather high. With the current disorder, he escaped at the first sign of attack and even wore a human skin mask. How was it possible for the assassins to find him within this short period of time? What’s more, weren’t the mentors and guards nearby? Once the assassin made the move, it would definitely alert them. As long as he could drag it out long enough until the three principals return, he would be able to survive.
Jiang Yi quietly sneaked outside of the valley because the three principals were outside of the valley. If he was able to reach the three principals before the assassins reached him, then it would make the entire situation safer for him.
But imagination was ideal, but reality was always so cruel!
“Bang!”
One of the front carriages in the valley suddenly flew up. The screams of the cadets within the carriage pierced through the serenity of the surroundings. Numerous mentors shot out from the carriages while most of the cadets looked towards the front with fear. They saw the most horrifying scene.
Making use the dusky illumination, they saw a horrifying demonic beast drilling out from underground and knocking an entire carriage into mid-air. Its sharp mouth flashed a few times in mid-air, tearing the war horse and a cadet into pieces. Fresh blood sprayed all over the air while severed limbs flew across. When the other cadets landed on the ground, their petrified faces were covered in blood; and they were trembling non-stop—they were so frightened that they forgot to escape.
“Tier-two demonic beast, Mountain-Piercing Mouse! All cadets, retreat!”
A male mentor was the first to react as he rushed towards the demonic beast. Numerous other mentors also headed towards the demonic beast, even the guards were frenziedly trying to dash towards the place. The nearby cadets were all in a state of chaos; the war horses that pulled the carriages were also in a hysterical state. They were stomping their hooves, neighing frantically, and even fleeing in all directions. Most of the female cadets were screaming while their legs went soft. Most of the people wanted to escape but realized that both the front and back directions were filled with figures and carriages, putting the whole area in a state of confusion.
They are here!
Jiang Yi stuck his body on the surface of the cliffs. He observed everything with a cool eye and had this extremely serious face. The circumstances were worse than he had imagined, and the enemy was much more brilliant than he imagined, too. This Mountain-Piercing Mouse was obviously attracted here with the sole purpose to create more disorder. If the mentors and the guardsmen were in a state of confusion, they would have the opportunity to search and assassinate him!
He didn’t know what strength level would the assassins have and what kind of formidable or mystical abilities they would possess. He just knew that he had to flee; he had to flee far away from here and out of the valley. Only by doing so could he survive.
“Swish!”
Hence, he didn’t hesitate for too long; he didn’t care about the cadets that flocked from the front. He desperately tried to move forward even if that Mountain-Piercing Mouse was incredibly strong. He didn’t bother anymore.

…
If Jiang Yi got it correctly, the moment when the Mountain-Piercing Mouse appeared, ten shadows stealthily used the darkness and ropes to scale down from the side of the cliffs. They were all wearing the black warriors’ robes that were similar to the guardsmen. With the cover of the darkness, they didn’t look any different from the members of the guards’ team. These ten individuals traversed through the valley at top speed, all heading towards the carriage that Jiang Yi was supposed to sit in. It seemed they knew which carriage Jiang Yi was in way beforehand.
Soon enough, the few of them found Jiang Yi’s carriage. They pulled open the curtains and found that it was empty. The male leader gestured with his hand. “Split up and look. Immediately retreat if we cannot find the target within one hour. Remember that the target knows how to disguise himself. But there aren’t more than twenty cadets at the sixth stage of the Cast Tripod Realm and are of the same age as the target. If it is necessary, it will be better to kill wrongly instead of letting him off!”
The ten individuals split into two groups: one of them headed into the deeper parts of the valley while the other group headed towards the direction where Jiang Yi rushed towards. It was chaos all around, and there was a constant flow of guards that rushed towards the Mountain-Piercing Mouse. Due to the limited illumination of the valley, the assassins didn’t really garner any attention.
These individuals were worthy enough to be professional assassins. They didn’t group up and check everything slowly, there were four of them who swiftly sprinted towards the front, leaving only one of them to check with detail. After every section of road, they would leave another man behind to check this section clearly, while the other three quickly rushed ahead, splitting up the checkpoints.
Jiang Yi had now arrived that the nearby vicinity of the Mountain-Piercing Mouse. There were relatively lesser cadets around here, and there were more than ten female cadets who got really frightened. They actually squatted on the ground and vomited, ignoring the shouts from the mentors.
What is the use of having strength if you have such a weak mind?
Jiang Yi sighed indistinctly. He looked around and emerged from the carriage which he was hiding in. He was preparing himself to go past the crowd—past the mentors and the Mountain-Piercing Mouse ahead. Once he went past all of those, he would in a much safer condition.
“Swish!”
There were numerous piercing sounds echoed from the back. Jiang Yi swept his eyes behind and could clearly see over a dozen members of the guards’ team. These people were apparently sent from the guard captain at the back. They were all experts of the Purple Mansion Realm. The valley didn’t have much illumination, but they all moved like the wind, stepping on either the cliffs or carriage roofs to skim over with extreme speed.
“En?”
Jiang Yi originally wanted to follow them and dashed to the front. But his body suddenly paused when he noticed the last member of the guards’ team. This guard did a scan around from time to time, not missing any cadets, and his eyes were filled with a chilling intent.
What was a member of the guards’ team checking every cadet for? Why wasn’t he focusing on the battle ahead or concentrating on the massive Mountain-Piercing Mouse?
Assassin!
Jiang Yi’s body trembled, and cold sweat was running down his forehead. If he didn’t use the black essence force to enhance his vision, he wouldn’t have been able to notice such a weird behavior under such poor lighting. If he was to make use of this moment to rush ahead, he would probably die without knowing what happened.
“Hur hur! No matter what status you have. Since you want to kill me, then you should have prepared to be killed instead!”
The edge of Jiang Yi’s mouth let out a smear of cold intent; he quietly channeled a wisp of the black essence force to his ears. Jiang Yi’s eyes didn’t pay attention to this man anymore. Instead, he cast his sights on the Mountain-Piercing Mouse. Jiang Yi hid at the back of another carriage, exposing his entire back to that ‘member’ of the guards’ team.
“Eh? There is a martial artist at the sixth stage of the Cast Tripod Realm. It seems like his looks are about the same as the target?”
After using the black essence force to enhance his hearing, Jiang Yi’s hearing ability became insanely effective. His judgment was on point: this ‘member’ of the guards’ team soon locked his eyes onto Jiang Yi. Everything that he muttered was heard clearly by Jiang Yi.
“Swish!”
That individual sprinted over and fixed his eyes on Jiang Yi’s back. When he was about a few tens of feet away from Jiang Yi, he let out a brutal smile as he leaped down from the carriage. He silently dashed toward Jiang Yi without any presence, using his razor claws to claw at Jiang Yi’s back like a netherworld’s ghost claw.
