Chapter 1671: Test Mission

Translator: Atlas Studios  Editor: Atlas Studios

“Ten years?”

Jiang Yi hesitated. Ten years was very long for him. If it was one year, he could grudgingly accept that. Ten Higher-Domain years was a thousand Lower-Domain years. If he waited that long before going back to the Earth Domain, everything would have changed by then.

He paused for a moment and said, “My Lord, I am fine with the mission; if I die in battle, I will not have any regrets. However… I can’t leave the Nine Yang Army in these ten years at all? What if I want to go out and head to another place for a time?”

“No way!”

The soldier’s answer almost made Jiang Yi lose all hope. However, his next sentence gave Jiang Yi back a sliver of hope. “If you are not a Senior Commander or above, you will not be allowed to leave the Nine Yang Valley. If you are out carrying out missions and don’t listen to your superiors, you will be killed on the spot.”

“Senior Commander or above? That means that Senior Commanders have the choice to leave?” Jiang Yi hurriedly asked.

“Senior Commanders?”

The soldier looked at Jiang Yi mockingly as he said coldly, “If you have the capability to become a Senior Commander, then let’s talk. If you can go further and become a General Lord, you can go anywhere you want…”

“Alright!”

Jiang Yi gritted his teeth as he nodded and said, “I will join the Nine Yang Army!”

The soldier pointed at a castle ahead and said, “Do you see that castle? Head to the second side hall to the left in it and report. Do not head to any other castles; if you get killed, don’t blame me for not warning you.”

Jiang Yi rushed towards that castle while he furtively observed his surroundings. He guessed that the army camp was not in the Nine Yang Valley; there were only about ten thousand people here while the Nine Yang Army had tens of millions of soldiers. This small valley could not possibly contain all of them.

After entering the castle, Jiang Yi found the second side hall. There were actually some men sitting in a corner inside while right in front of him was a stone stage. On the stone stage sat an elder wearing the Nine Yang Army’s battle armor.

“My Lord, I wish to join the Nine Yang Army; I have come to report.” Jiang Yi bowed as he said respectfully.

“En!”

The elder on the stone stage scanned Jiang Yi as he nodded and said, “Your level of attainment is sufficient. However, I have to tell you upfront that this test is very dangerous; you might die trying it. Are you clear of that? If you are, find a place and sit cross-legged. Once there are enough of you, I will organize you guys to go and take the test.”

“I am clear of the dangers.”

Jiang Yi nodded as he didn’t say anything else and sat in a corner cross-legged to cultivate. There were sixty to seventy men in the hall now; he didn’t know how many were necessary to start the test.

Jiang Yi entered the hall as he cultivated his Power of Heaven and Earth and heavenly powers while observing the situation around him. After waiting for tens of hours, yet another four or five applicants came. They were all God Thearchs, and their appearances were very strange. Jiang Yi figured that they weren’t from the Earth Domain but were from the other Minor Chiliocosms.

As people streamed in steadily—after five to six Lower-Domain days, a hundred men were gathered and seated cross-legged in the hall. There were eight Titled God Thearchs while the rest were God Thearchs. That elder finally stood up and said, “Alright, we have sufficient members now. You all will go to the third side hall for the test.”

A hundred men got up as everyone headed outside orderly. No one dared to misbehave here; whoever did here in the hallowed Nine Yang Valley would be courting death.

The third side hall was a little smaller; there were ten Teleportation Formations here, and three elders stationed around them. The trio’s divine senses swept over as one of them pointed at the third Teleportation Formation and said, “Head to the Worm Valley for the test. Do note that all the worms inside have been assaulted by the Netherworld Aura.

“Everyone that manages to kill a hundred thousand worms would be able to enter the Teleportation Formation and come back here. Please remember to collect the worm dantians; without them, you would not be able to pass the test. If you cannot kill enough, you can give up and return here. However, you will forfeit your right to join the Nine Yang Army ever again. The time limit for this test is one day.”

Swish! Swish! Swish!

A hundred men did not hesitate as they charged into the Teleportation Formation. The three elders activated the Teleportation Formation as everyone disappeared from the side hall.

Buzz!

This time, the teleportation did not take that long; they reached their destination in merely six hours. After Jiang Yi reached the Worm Valley, he immediately released his divine senses. After scanning the vicinity, Jiang Yi relaxed slightly. They were on a mountain peak. This peak had restrictions on it, with a huge light shield enveloping it. The peak was very safe.

This place was obviously a mystic realm; the surrounding was pitch-black and was so quiet that it made everyone’s heart palpitate. Three men sat near the Teleportation Formation; they all wore the Nine Yang Army battle armor. They should be quite old, though they were only Titled God Thearch-equivalent.

Swish!

Out of the hundred of them, a few men’s divine senses swept out as they hurriedly flew outwards. The rest, however, was not that rash as they observed from within the shield.

Out of the five that flew out, two were Titled Battle Gods. These few people should have entered together as they brazenly flew out. Once they were not that far away from the light shield, screeching sounds suddenly rang out from beneath as black shadows darted upwards. There were so many, and it seemed they were limitless.

These worms are so huge; they are so disgusting!

Jiang Yi took a look as his mouth twitched. These worms were flesh worms. Their bodies were as thick as brains, and they had wings on their backs. Their tongues were exceptionally long while an ink-green fluid dripped from its mouth and secreted from its body. It looked exceptionally hideous.

“Die!”

The few men hurriedly took out their weapons as they released their attacks. Shooting stars filled the sky as they headed towards the worms. What made Jiang Yi and company stunned was that these worms’ defenses were formidable—rather, they were adept at defending themselves. Every time attacks landed on them, the ink-green fluid would surround their bodies and deflect the majority of the incoming attacks.

Aside from the two Titled Battle Gods’ attacks that managed to kill a few worms, the other three could not kill any worms; they only managed to knock back and injure some worms.

Tsk! Tsk!

Those worms spat out heaps of ink-green fluid that brought with them some black fog; it was evidently the Netherworld Aura. The three hurriedly retreated back into the light shield, though the remaining two Titled God Thearchs did not retreat but dodged the fluid as they continued their attacks.

“Ahhh…”

One Titled God Thearch was careless and struck by the fluid. His supreme-grade battle armor suddenly started to emit green smoke, and a hole was burned through it. He hurriedly retreated as his companion followed suit.

“A hundred thousand?”

Within the light shield, many exchanged stares, at a loss at what was to be done. They had to kill a hundred thousand worms each within one day; how was that possible? The worms had such corrosive venom, and if they were not careful, even their bones would be corroded.

“How insane!”

Jiang Yi was silently frightened. He actually wasn’t afraid of the worms. If he stood outside with his Heavenly Wind Armor, these worms would not be able to kill him. If he let out his mummy, he could even kill ten million worms; a hundred thousand was a piece of cake. However, he did not dare to use his Heavenly Wind Armor and mummy lightly; his identity would be exposed easily.

This was actually only a test to enter the Nine Yang Army; the Nine Yang Army was indeed formidable, and it was so hard to even enlist. How dangerous would a real mission be next time?

After the few men entered the light shield, the worms naturally flew back to the ground. The light shield’s restrictions were powerful, and the worms probably could no longer detect life signs within the shield.

“How should I kill these worms?”

Since Jiang Yi could not use any mystical ability or techniques that would expose himself, Jiang Yi was in a bind; he didn’t know how he could complete this test.
