FUYUKI HAYASHI
In the last chapter of Fuyuki, I met the brother of my imaginary lover Tomoe. I don’t know why but I feel very happy right now. I guess living in solitude for so long has made me vulnerable to familial love.
“Right now, me and my plain-looking brother-in-law Tommy-kun are going to see my lover and his sister, Tomoe. It’s been so long since I last saw her, I wonder if her tummy has gotten as big as the ball they use for Water Zorbing.
“As I told you before, I. DON’T. HAVE. ANY. SISTER!!! What will it take for you to believe me, hah!? And what kind of a woman’s belly grows as big as the ball they use for water zorbing, hah!? Does she have elephants in her bellies!? And my name isn’t Tommy, it’s T.O.M.I.O. Tomio!!! You are deliberately saying it wrong, aren’t you!?
“I know, I know that we should have had asked you before doing this, that, and the other thing but still, please forgive me for the sake of your unborn nephew or niece. And please don’t be angry with Tomoe, she will be hurt.”
“Nrrk…! Coward! Using my sister and her unborn child to gain my approval!!! Aaah!! What the hell is happening to me!? I don’t even know anyone named Tomoe!!”
“Enough! If you won’t recognize her then don’t, I will take care of her!!!”
“Please, please forgive me! Please don’t say anything like that, I don’t even have a sister, I know I lied in order to force you to take me with you but I am sorry for that. Please stop. Any more than this and I might actually become a schizophrenic!”
Looks like he learnt his lesson
“Well, if you insist, then fine”
I brushed off the matter too. It was getting too boring for me to continue with this, there’s no use trying to milk a dry cow either way.
“By the way, where are we going, Fuyuki-san?”
“To a certain town, as for why we are going there, well, you will know soon about it”
“…I see”
TOMIO YAMADA
After walking for around half an hour the two of us reached a town named Keema.
Why does the name of this town sound like the name of a meat dish?
The two of us entered the town, it was pretty small, it looked more like a village than a town in my opinion.
Does Fuyuki-san live here? Well, it’s not a bad place so I guess it’s fine.
The two of us kept on walking and after walking for around half an hour, we reached our destination.
It was a building. Although I called it a building, in terms of size it wasn’t much bigger than the inn where I was kept captive by the father and daughter duo (chapter 1).
Outside the building, there was a signboard on which the name of the building was written
It was, uh…what is that?
“It’s the Workers Guild, it is something similar to the Adventurers Guild you must have read about in the light novels. Also, this place is not my home, I live in Nakama City”
Fuyuki-san told me
And did he just say, Nakama city (Translation- Friend City)? The Capital of the Land of Mourning Flowers?
Plus did he just mention light novels?
“Um…Fuyuki-san, by any chance…do you…read light novels? By the way, my favorite one is Turning My Life Around in the Parallel World” I happily reported my favorite light novel to Fu-san.
“Huh? You read those kinds of things!? Only a fool would read something like that!! If you want to read something then only read those kinds of books which will help you to become a better person in the future!!”
Gah!!! I had a vague feeling that he might say something like that. But he isn’t wrong, I can’t keep being a kid forever, I have to grow up someday.
“Then what kind of books do you read?” I asked him sincerely. If I want to become better, then I must follow this man, I have a feeling that if I follow him then I will eventually become someone better in the future!
“My Maid is my darling, How to make a Harem, Dungeon life with my sexy teacher and girlfriends, Older Girls are Better, I have the Strongest Sword, these are some of my favorite ones. I can lend them to you after we reach back home.”
He replied to me with a smile on his face.
…
…
He reads these types of novels!? How are books like that going to make me a better person? And the last one of his recommendations sounds so obscene! These books will most likely transform me into a pervy piece of trash who only knows how to find double meaning in everything!
But, if I say these things to him then he might abandon me.
“By the way Fuyuki-san, what are we here for?”
“Stuuupid!!! Can’t you figure out even this much!? It is to get you a Worker Pass obviously! You see, after the end of the last era, many people lost their jobs. There’s a very high demand for jobs everywhere that’s why most of the people in the country are now unemployed. That’s why in order to deal with this problem an organization called the Workers Guild was established to provide jobs to those who are in need. The main branch of the Guild’s office is in the Nakama City but because it is a very new organization, it is not quite widespread in the entire nation, especially in the countryside, that’s why most of the people don’t know about it. There are very few branches of the organization throughout the country and this is one of the minor branches. Let’s go, we shall get you an identity card”
I didn’t say anything again and entered the building with him.
There were very few people inside. One was a woman in her late forties at the counter, one guard at the doorstep and one person were sweeping the floor. Fuyuki-san walked towards the lady and showed her something like a card.

The woman looked at the card for a moment and then nodded at Fuyuki-san
“Fuyuki-san, nice to meet you. My name is Hanoka Kawagami, how can I help you?”
The woman politely introduced herself.
“We are here to get this kid registered here. His name is Tomio Yamada and I will be his guardian”
The woman looked at the two of us for a moment before eventually nodding her head.
“For the identity card, Tomio-kun will have to take part in an exam”
E-exam? Me? W-what would I do if I fail? Wouldn’t it mean that I am unfit to get a job?
“Hm? An exam? But there was nothing like that the last time when I came to get myself registered”
As if Fuyuki-san noticed the pathetic expression on my face, he tried to cover up for me.
Now I feel really bad!
“This policy was only adopted a few days ago, please understand our situation, sir. There will only be two tests, one written and the other physical. You can choose the test you want to give first. The written test is pretty easy too, any person with half a brain can clear it”
Any person with half-a-brain can clear it? Instead of getting hopeful after hearing this, I actually got more nervous.
I mean if I were to fail the test, then wouldn’t it mean that I don’t have even half a brain?
I unconsciously started chattering my teeth.
Fuyuki-san placed his hand on my shoulder and looked at me with eyes full of expectations, “If you don’t pass this test then you will be my slave until you die”
He said with a smile on his face.
Shit…why did I choose to follow him. Something must have been wrong with my head!
The lady took me to the examination area.
I chose to attempt the physical test first.
And just as I had expected, it was very easy to pass the physical test. In the end, I just had to fight with one of the personnel at the Guild office.
It was a middle-aged man and to be honest, he was really weak. I finished him off in one move.
I got full marks on the physical test, now it was the time for the written test. To be honest, I am really scared about this test, I don’t know why, I had a feeling that I am going to fail.
I followed the lady to a room full of people from all age groups from 12-year-olds to 50-year-olds…and wait…is that 5-6-year-old girl sitting in the exam too? Shit! That’s why I hate geniuses! And what are these 50-year-olds doing here? Looks like the job situation has gotten even worse, even 50-year-olds are now looking for new jobs.
The examination room looked very similar to the classrooms in the schools. A strict-looking guy was standing at the podium, behind him there was the blackboard on which the words ‘Written Exam’ and ‘All the Best’ were written in large letters.
I took a seat and settled down. I looked around me only to find people acting crazily before an exam. There was a guy who looked in his early twenties, he was wearing specs and he looked like the kind of guy who would ditch the arcade with his friends for studying…no, he actually looks like the kind of guy who never had any friends in the first place.
The man with the specs caught me staring at him. He looked at me and said boastfully, “My name is Kenichi Yoshida. Who are you?”
Why is he suddenly talking to me now?
“Uh…my name is Tomio Yamada, nice to meet you. Looks like you have prepared well, you don’t look nervous at all”
I said looking at him.
Yes, this guy was reeking of confidence, I hate people like him
“Nah, that’s not it. The thing is that I haven’t studied at all, that’s why I must be looking that way to you!”
“O-oh, I see”
Of course, he was lying.
He looks like the kind of guy who finishes half of the school syllabus before even the session at the school starts. And right now when I looked at his face I noticed the black area around his eyes, this must mean that he had pulled out an all-nighter.
Ah! I talked to a guy like him!! Oh god please save this exam, people like are described in mythologies as The Devourers of Exam Luck. Shit! Have I been cursed!??
No…no, that couldn’t be it, there are no signs of me getting hit by a curse.
Yep! That’s right, there needs to be a piece of evidence for me to believe in curses, to begin with!
Yes…yes, I am perfectly fine.
I bowed down my head as if to pray to the gods when suddenly a drop of blood fell from my nose
Huh? This blood? But how?
Have I really been hit by a curse!? (picked his nose just a few minutes ago but doesn’t remember it)
I was holding my head in my hands, trying to drive the curse away from me when suddenly the bell rang
“Triiiiiiiiing!!!”
The examiner left his place and started distributing answer sheets and question papers to us.
