GHML – Chapter 32.4: He Jiang, Do You Have A Bottom Line? (4)
The next day when He Jiang woke up from his slumber and registered the fact he did not go home last night, the first thing he did was charge and turn on his phone. The sign of the six missed calls from Shang Jing made his heart skip a beat.
He was initially intending to go home but forgot about it when he passed out from the alcohol.
In his WeChat, there was a message from Yang Yue, asking for credit: 【I was afraid you would spill the secret about your marriage to Shang Jing so I didn’t send you home. He called me at 11PM last night to ask me about your whereabouts and I made it very clear that you’re sleeping alone.】
Yang Yue was buzzing with satisfaction internally, thinking he had covered all bases. Where would he find another kind soul like himself who would emphasize ‘got a room for himself to spend the night’?
True enough, upon seeing the message, He Jiang, too, agreed with Yang Yue’s decision and actions.
It was better for him to stay out last night. Even though he was ready to play the fool, the hurt was real. He was not ready to face his wife who bore the intention to divorce him and not ready to face the fact that he was only worth 88 yuan in Shang Jing’s heart.
After a night of sleep, he was now ready to do some mental reconstruction to get himself back into shape. It was natural for a relationship to have highs and lows but the goal was always there. Only a fool would give up halfway.
Just then, his phone vibrated. It was a call from Lin Lin. “Where are you? I’ll get Xiao Bei to come fetch you to the filming studio.”
Except for the actual day of his birthday, He Jiang’s schedule was filled to the brim.
He massaged his temples. “I’m at Yang Yue’s bar. Come get me.”
Looking back down at his phone, he sent Shang Jing a text: 【I’m sorry, my phone ran out of battery yesterday. I’m going off to work now and will be back tonight. Remember to have your meals on time.】
After which, He Jiang went to freshen himself up and saw Yang Yue sitting in front of the bar counter, working.
Since the bar rested for a night yesterday, there was not much to do, culminating in the current scene of Yang Yue cleaning some wine glasses with his legs crossed.
He Jiang: “Why are you up so early?”
Yang Yue wagged his finger. “No, it would be more accurate to say that I didn’t sleep at all.”
After witnessing his brother being hurt by love last night, inspiration hit him. As such, he had spent the entire night writing and filling out a tragic love song which left him buzzing with excitement till now.
He Jiang was speechless. “Hurry and catch a wink.”

Yang Yue stopped He Jiang. “To boost my inspiration, I should take a look online to see what netizens have to say about your relationship.”
He Jiang: “Thank you but I’m not interested.”
Yang Yue shouted after him: “They are all praising you for being a good cat owner.”
He Jiang continued walking out the bar. “I don’t have a cat.”
Yang Yue: “It’s not just some normal cat they are referring to. They are talking about your wife, the most beautiful ragdoll cat on the internet. One look and they could tell he was brought up in a well-to-do family and received exemplary care.”
He Jiang: “Skip to the main point.”
Yang Yue: “After that, I looked for associations of cats and guess what I saw.”
“I saw a trending search saying ‘send employees a cat when they join the company and take the cat back when they leave. It will effectively reduce turnover rates in any company.’”
He Jiang: “Do you intend to pay your bartenders with cats?”
Yang Yue looked at He Jiang with disappointment. “I am telling you to keep a cat with Shang Jing. Once they have bonded, you will have a cat son to hold as hostage even if Shang Jing regains his memory and wants to escape. With the cat in your hand, he is sure to come back to visit and think about you all day long.”
It is harder for a couple with kids to separate, do you get it?
He Jiang halted his steps. At that moment, he was truly tempted to get a cat for Shang Jing. But when the little kitten in his mind turned into a rat, he lost all motivation.
“Isn’t your sister’s cat about to give birth… Forget it, it’s too troublesome.”

He could already picture their life with another cat in the picture. He would be the one to clean its toilet and bathe it. And there was also a possibility of the cat being close only to Shang Jing, leaving him to be the lonely old man.
Why would he keep a cat to divert Shang Jing’s attention away from himself? Was he not already jealous enough?
But Yang Yue was still convinced it was a genius idea and continued selling it, “If you don’t wish to keep two cats, you can keep a dog too! Dogs are loyal. If your wife escapes, it can help you reign your wife’s heart in!”
He Jiang smiled. “Are you saying… I am worse than a dog?”
What a joke! I’ll need a dog to keep Shang Jing with me?!
