After things got settled down, Hakuta found himself falling back into old habits. That mainly being putting most of his free time towards playing some video games. He didn’t have any issues with hanging out with anyone else, but the boy did want to enjoy his summer break doing things he liked too.
This would extend past the summer break once classes got started up again. Which was no surprise, but he did do it less whenever his friends asked him do something with them. At this point he had given up on trying to resist and decided it was easier to do their bidding for a short period of time and just enjoy himself whenever he could.
Though it wasn’t just the games which got him wanting to do this. Hakuta had more reason than just the products themselves. This also gave him a good opportunity to spend more time with ‘TheMaskedDemon’, also known as Ino.
It gave him a shock to realize those two were one in the same. And despite such a massive revelation, she seemed rather disinterested in discussing the matter properly to him. While he understood she might prefer privacy in wanting to avoid talking to him about it during school. It was a shame she seemed to easily dodge the conversation over gaming as well.
Today on the weekend, he was sitting out in the living room, enjoying a bit of ToyStation while playing a game with her online. She didn’t want to use voice chat yet again, so they were messaging each other over the fun when able. He still hadn’t even updated her ID on there to reflect it was her and not just her username. But a part of him had that bit of paranoia in Shiuka sticking her nose into things she shouldn’t and accidentally finding out.
“Looks like you’re aren’t stuffed up in your room today.” Speaking of, his housemate popped up behind him to make a comment. “But it looks like you’re playing with someone.”
“I am.” He answered. “And no, I don’t stuff myself only in my room. Besides, what would you care about that anyway? It’s not like we do that much when we’re just at home.”
“Oh, you haven’t heard?” She gave him the big news. Their dads were to be returning from one of their trips. According to her, they mentioned having some big news for their kids.
“Wow, I haven’t seen dad in a while.” He replied, getting a bit excited. “Hopefully they actually stick around for a bit. I’d love to hear about what they’ve been up to.” His phone chimed, reminding him that it wasn’t just Shiuka he was conversing with. Without saying anything, he replied to one of Ino’s messages.
“Oh, you’re playing with that masked guy.” She sighed, a bit disappointed he care so much about someone he didn’t truly know. If only she knew.
“Yeah, they’re fun to play with…” He replied, acting as if he needed to defend himself. “But if dad’s about to get home soon. I should be ready for it.” Hakuta sent off a message telling Ino he had to leave for a bit. She responded with a cute crying face emoji, but told him to not worry about her.
“Perfect, especially we need to pick them up at the airport.”
“Why do we need to do that?” He asked. It was not something they normally did. Not only was the airport not far from where they lived, it wasn’t as if the kids could do much to help the men get back. “They didn’t bring back another ‘treasure’, did they?” He remembered the first time they had ever come back. A part of him wished they didn’t return then with what they brought.
“Not sure, just what papa told me to do.” She answered. While Shiuka was in the dark just like him, she was much more trusting of her father. “Now come on, let’s get going. They said they’ll be here in half an hour.”
“Kind of wish we got a bit more of a notice.” He jumped up from the couch and followed her outside. While he wasn’t dressed nicely for being out in public, it wasn’t so bad that he felt any concerns looking like this to people around them.
They got into the airport without any issues and waited around the gate to try and see their parents. According to her, their plane should’ve landed by now. So it was only a matter of finding them to head straight home. Given the way it was described to him, this entire trip sounded like a waste of time, but he didn’t want to just stay home while she went ahead.
“Ah! There they are.” She spotted them first. Shiuka let out a giddy cheer as she ran off from him to meet up with her dad for the first time in weeks. “Papa, you made it back.” She rushed to the man and leaped into his arms for a hug.
“That’s definitely her.” He commented, watching her do this same gig as he had gotten used to the sight after many trips.
“Hakuta!” His own dad yelled out his name, running towards his son.
“Wait dad!” He put up his arms to cushion the force of his own father running up to him and giving the boy a tight bear hug. His efforts did little to prevent the pair from falling to the ground as his dad greeted him warmly.

“It was one heck of a trip.” He said as they returned to their feet. “I’m sure glad to be back in Japan.”
“I’m sure you are.” Hakuta responded, dusting himself off after being brought down onto the dirty airport floor. “I hope you two didn’t tell us to come because you really wanted to see us.”
“I don’t see what’s wrong with loving our kids.” Kankachi replied laughing. “But actually we do have a little bit of news to share with you. We decided it really couldn’t wait.”
“It better be important.” He crossed his arms and prepared to hear what they had to say. All they would’ve need to do was wait a good 15 or so minutes to come home and tell them there.
“We’ve all been invited to attend the upcoming ball being hosted by the Saito family!” He spoke, filled with pride and excitement over the announcement. His daughter and Hakuta didn’t share in the enthusiasm.
“What’s so special about that?” She asked. “And who are they?” While she didn’t have an idea of the family, something about the name reminded her of someone.
“He’s a politician I’ve known for years.” He answered. “I’m pretty sure you go to school with his daughter.”
“Oh, that’s Ino’s dad!” Hakuta snapped his fingers upon realizing the truth. Then dread set in when he realized he’d have to go see that man again. “Oh no…”
“What? You’re scared because you play video games?” Toukou laughed at his son’s apparent fear as they walked over to the conveyor belt to pick up their luggage. “He’s a little strict, but he’s not a bad man.”
Apparently he had already met him before. Which wasn’t a surprise considering the circumstances of the trip they had just finished. “Although I’m a little scared he’s going to grill us for what happened.”
“I know, good thing we stopped that international war from breaking out.” Despite the serious nature, Kankachi didn’t treat it as such.
“Wait, what do you-”
“And there’s are luggage.” Before Hakuta could ask for an explanation, the men quickly changed the subject one they found their items. “Since our young spry kids are here, maybe you two don’t mind carrying this stuff for us?”
“I guess, but-” He continued to try and get to the bottom of what they meant, but it was ignored when his father dumped all this things onto him.
“Great!” He said, handing off the heavy bags to his son. “My back was killing me.”
“Fine, whatever.” Hakuta gave up on trying to understand what they meant. Shiuka didn’t even attempt to ask any questions nor did she seem particularly bothered by the idea of war. So perhaps it either wasn’t important or happened far more often than it really should.
“Once we get back, we should take care of all the preparations for the party.” Said Kankachi. “It’s not for another week, but it doesn’t hurt to take care of it now.”
“Well, at least we’ll get to see you for a while before you have to leave again.” Said Hakuta, defeated and struggling to drag along all their luggage.
