Chapter 49 Black Market

TL: Kyous

“You need to walk forward for a distance. When you see a pipe-like thing that is broken into three pieces, there’s a staircase next to it. Going up the staircase, you’ll see a tiny room on the second floor. Open the door and enter, there will be another door in the middle of the room. Open that door again, then you will see another staircase. Go down that staircase and you will see the black market’s entrance! How is it?! Is it super mysterious?! Totally unimaginable! It’s like a mysterious space waiting for us to discover!” The more Adrian spoke, the more excited he was. Even his eyes were gleaming.

“…” Looking at the map and coupled with Adrian’s explanation, Odin was stupefied.

Why were there so many contraptions hidden behind this old factory?

Regardless, it was still a normal phenomenon. The existence of the black market itself was illegal. Without any objects to cover the black market, it was highly probable for it to be found out.

“This black market is huge. Many things can be found here and there should be something that you might need.” Adrian finally composed himself as his expression turned solemn.

“That’s great, you’ve helped me a lot. I intend to buy something before I leave, but I’m not sure where to go.” Odin even had the thought of giving Adrian a huge hug.

“Hehe, it’s no big deal. Keep the map properly. Just the entrance near the campus is surprisingly difficult to locate. Once you reach its nearby area, make sure to keep an eye out, or else you may miss it.” Adrian handed the map to Odin and once again urged Odin to read the map carefully.

“Thanks, I’ll go and buy the train ticket now.” Odin looked at the distance ahead, there was around a ten minutes journey for him to arrive at the ticket booth.

“Alright! Take care on the road! I still have some other things to do, so I won’t be following you. Remember to write me a letter when you’re free.” Waving his hand at Odin, Adrian’s eyes contained worry and reluctance.

“I’ll take care of myself. Goodbye.” Odin waved his hand at Adrain before continuing down the path. Uncertain when he could meet Adrian again, a bitter smile formed on Odin’s lips. Perhaps once he went to the western town, he might stay there forever.

The ticket booth was close by. Soon, Odin arrived there.

“A ticket to western town for tomorrow morning.” Odin calculated the time and felt tomorrow morning was the most suitable time.

After buying the ticket, he would have a stroll in the night market to purchase things he needed. Then, in the morning, he would hop on the train departing for the west.

Despite being unwilling to work in the western town, Odin knew that staying at Blue Vine University right now was the most dangerous situation. He was forced to go to the western town earlier. While that place also had numerous unknown dangers, it was still better than being monitored by the church.

When the clerk heard Odin saying he wanted a ticket to the western town, she slowly raised her head and looked at him. Confusion filled her face, probably due to being unsure why a university student wanted to go to that place.

However, she didn’t question anything and checked the availability of the ticket for tomorrow morning as per operation.

“There’s a train departing for the western town tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock. And the seat, are you okay with this seat?” The clerk pushed her slipping glasses up.

“Sure.” Odin didn’t say much. He took out the money from his pocket and handed it to the clerk.

After receiving the money, she handed the ticket to Odin, “Please keep it safely, no replacement for its loss.”

“Thanks.” Odin carefully placed the ticket into his shirt’s inner pocket. A single ticket was rather costly. Since he was going to buy some supplies from the black market at night, he didn’t have any excess money to buy another ticket. So he was being extra careful.

Leaving the ticket booth, the sky was dark as it was already dusk. This kind of dim sky was very fitting to go to the black market to purchase stuff.

Odin decided to leave for the black market instantly. It was just dusk, but the entrance near the campus might be indiscernible. Following the map given by Adrian, he reached the general area. Even after spending a while, he failed to locate the entrance.

Just as Odin thought the map was wrong, a green dumpster suddenly attracted his attention. When he was looking for the narrow path just now, he ultimately couldn’t find it. Turning around, he suddenly saw a green dumpster and it was placed just in between two walls.

He pondered for a bit and believed that there should be a gap between the two walls. It was impossible for a hole to be dug just to place the dumpster. He trudged over and wanted to move the dumpster away. A foul smell was emitted from the dumpster as the trash inside it hadn’t been clear for who knows how long.

Nevertheless, Odin couldn’t care much about it. He decided to bite the bullet and bet the entrance must be located right behind the dumpster.

As he expected, after Odin moved the dumpster away, the entrance covered by the dumpster finally revealed itself. It was a one-meter tall and fifty centimeters wide small path. Odin needed to bend his waist to pass through it.

The path was dark and narrow. But fortunately, the path was blocked by the dumpster, so there wasn’t any weird stuff stuck in the path.

After walking for ten minutes, a ray of light finally could be seen. It was akin to the golden light when the sun was setting just before dusk.

Odin was certain he was almost reaching the end. As he imagined, after another two minutes, he finally exited from the narrow path. Due to bending his waist for a long time, he stretched his body for a bit before looking at his left side. There indeed was an old factory over there.

Following what Adrian told him, he founded the three-segmented pipe. He entered the tiny room through the staircase next to it and entered the staircase in the middle of the tiny room again.

All of a sudden, the noisy sound of hawking and bargaining could be heard.

“Boss, can’t this be any cheaper?” A middle-aged man said.

“No, no. This is the lowest price I can give. In the entire republic, there’s only one of this.” The vendor’s somewhat raspy voice came out.

“Okay then.” The middle-aged man was slightly disappointed. It looked like the money he had on him wasn’t enough for the stuff he was interested in as he walked away in disappointment.

As Odin heard these voices, he was certain he found the right place. He hurriedly opened the door in front of him and the entire underground black market was painted before him. There were a ton of vendor stalls and all kinds of items were being sold. Such as potions, magic weapons, foods, utensils, etc.

Countless people were looking around, but Odin didn’t bump into anyone when he was outside. It showed that there was more than one entrance to this black market.
