The year was 279 AC, the prince is sitting in the garden with his niece Arianne. He was playing a lute as he sang a lullaby to the young girl. In the short time he was able to spend time with his niece, he grew close with Arianne, most days, he would just play with Arianne, or sang her a song that he made up. Arianne also got attached to the Prince, she would often knock at his door at night, and ask him if he could sing her a song so that she could sleep, the prince had no reason to refuse, so he accepted every time.

While the prince was putting the young princess to sleep in the garden, Oberyn suddenly walked to them with a sour face. He wanted to yell at Morian, but when he saw that Arianne was sleeping beside him, he calmed down. Morian asked Oberyn what’s wrong with him, his only answer?

“It’s the crown prince.”

Morian frowned, he gently put away Arianne so that he could move, and asked Oberyn, “When?”

“In a week.” answered his brother.

Morian sighed, and Oberyn continued. “We can’t do anything about it…”

“I am just afraid of what the mad king would do to her.” said Morian as the two brothers walked to Doran’s chamber. As they entered his chamber, he looked disgruntled, when he saw the two brothers entered his chamber, he instantly said that he also knew, as he was to be the ruling prince.

“So what are we going to do about it?” asked Morian.

Doran shook his head. “Nothing.” said the crippled man. “We can do nothing.”

“There has to be a way to prevent her from being the crown prince’s bride.”

“She’s the only one old enough brother,” said Dorian. “There is Cersei Lannister, but the king and Tywin Lannister are not seeing eye to eye at the moment… and mother insists that it will be fine.”

“Fine? The mad king disliked us!” Oberyn protested. “He’s racist against us, there will be no guarantee that she is safe near that mad king!”

“Mother said that Rhaegar will protect her,” said Doran. “And the queen is supportive of the marriage too.”

“And the king?” questioned Morian.

“No words.” Doran sighed. “You two should trust mother’s judgement, it is final, even I can’t do anything about it. The prince is already on its way to Sunspear.”

The two princes then left Doran’s chamber, a bit disappointed that he can’t do anything about it. But Oberyn said that Morian was quiet, too quiet, it is like he gave up before he even tried, which was strange for him.

[Oberyn’s Journal]

A mistake. It was a mistake. We should not have betrothed Elia with that cunt of a prince. The signs are there, but we are blinded by a false sense of security. When Rhaegar arrived at Sunspear, he was sweating like a pig. The Dornish climate didn’t suit his ‘princely’ attire, and therefore he looked like he had bathed in his own sweat. We Dornish hated bowing to foreigners, but we bowed nonetheless, as it was our home, we did not want to be a bad host. When he stood by us, he didn’t greet Elia, he didn’t smile at her, he didn’t kiss her hand, he didn’t compliment her, he did nothing. An insult to the Martells.

While he became kind to Elia during his short time in Sunspear, me and Morian still tried to convince mother to break the betrothal, but it was no use, she did however said that if Elia didn’t want to marry the prince, she would think about it.

And so we went to Elia, our sweet sister. We tried to reason with her, but she was too kind. She said that the prince was kind to her, he was handsome, and it was the crown prince, every young girl in westeros wanted to marry that cunt, and most of all, her mother worked hard on securing the betrothal, she doesn’t want to see her mother, who was already weak and frail, be disappointed in her. She wanted her to see her marry before her mother passed away.

It was Elia’s words, so we could do nothing about it. Still, me and Morian often think that if we had just broken that betrothal there and there, so much blood would be spared, so much tears wouldn’t have been shed. But then again, if we had broken that betrothal, Dorne wouldn’t be free.
