[Oberyn’s Journal]

While cannons and black powders were now known in Dorne, its secrets buried deep beneath our sands, its manufacturing was still expensive. Cannons were so costly to make and were so hard to manufacture that Lord Yronwood almost gave up on it entirely, but the Martells supplied them with gold, and they didn’t speak again. Black powders though, are pretty cheap, Morian often thought about how they would use it effectively and he designed a stick that can fire small iron balls that can easily penetrate plate armour. But it had a small problem again, its parts were hard to make, our blacksmiths were not competent enough to make those small parts, only a handful of them can, so for now, Morian said that we will stick with the black exploding balls as the main production.

Because of the spread of black powder, Morian decided that he would focus on other things rather than weapons. He made a port crane for mounting masts so shipbuilding would be much faster, he made a more efficient wine press, he made fertiliser out of Limestone to improve the crops’s quality in the fertile lands of the Greenblood, and the most impactful of all, he made a device in the beach of Sunspear that can extract drinkable water from the salty seawater, my brother Doran was so impressed by that invention that he ask Morian if they could make a bigger version of it, Morian says that it’s possible, but it will take a long time and expensive to make, my brother of course agreed to making it, although with a limited budget, as it was a long term project.

As his projects grew more exciting, I grew bored in Sunspear, and because of that boredom, I discovered that I have bastards around the world. The nearest one would be at Oldtown, where I used to study in the citadel, and so I planned on going there. Somehow, although  I should probably not be surprised anymore at this point, Morian had gotten the information that I was travelling to Oldtown, he said that he wanted to go with me, as he wanted to visit the citadel, I have no reason to refuse, so we prepare to travel to Oldtown.

We spent a couple of months on the road, taking our time as we travelled to Oldtown. Out of the two of my brothers, Morian was my favourite, his age was closer to me than Doran, mother said that me and Morian were similar in a way, though I personally don’t see it. One of the things that me and Morian wasn’t the same, was his view towards relationship, as a man of science, he said that he understood the thinking of getting multiple sexual partners at once because of reproduction, he admitted that he had laid with a couple of women these past years, but as soon as he heard that he was bethroted to Lady Dayne of Starfall, he had stop doing it entirely, I admit, he was a bit of a romantic, while he didn’t gave his first to his betrothed, he honor her by staying loyal as soon as he heard that he was betrothed, which I respect.

On the way to Oldtown, we grew closer as brothers, he often told me his plans of the future, how he wanted to build cities in Dorne, how he wanted to make the realm prosper, but he also told me that it would probably be just a dream, Dorne didn’t have a city for a reason, its climate and harsh condition is not supportive of cities, but he told me that he would try, he would try to fight the impossible, for Dorne’s prosperity, he didn’t disappoint us so far, and I trust his words.

We passed the Prince’s pass, and I saw Morian’s behaviour. He mapped the place so detailedly, I asked what he would do with it, he said that if a war ever broke out between the south and the north, we would know where to put the traps. At first, I didn’t really take it by heart that a war was coming, but then I thought about the mad king, and I suddenly agreed with Morian’s words wholeheartedly.

We rode through Ashford, through Cider Hall, we then took a boat to Highgarden, where I spent too much wine and made trouble with the guards, so we had to run from the castle. And so we rode straight to Oldtown after that, as Morian wouldn’t tolerate my bullshit anymore. When we arrived at Oldtown, people were looking at us, our relationship with the Reach wasn’t so friendly after all. There, me and Morian parted ways, he went to the citadel with the Archmaesters, while I looked for my bastard, and not a day later, I found her, after all, there’s rarely any Dornish in Oldtown, and she stood out like a flower in a dying field. She looked like she just reached her 9th name day, and so I walked up to her and asked where her mother was. She was distrustful towards me, her voice was high when she questioned me why she was looking for her mother, overall, a hot-tempered girl, she definitely has my blood.

I didn’t answer her, instead, I asked what her name was, she said that her name was Obara, Amusing, her mother named her after me. And so I asked again where her mother was, and she questioned me again who I am. I just said that I am her father. She was doubtful, and so I told her her mother’s name. As I never forgot all my lovers' names. She was surprised when she heard it, and she tried to attack me, she’s definitely my daughter.

And so I tied her up like a pig, and I brought her to the brothel that I used to visit. When I arrived there, Obara’s mother panicked seeing me, and demanded to release her immediately, and so I did. After that, I spoke to the mother loudly that I have come to claim Obara and to train her. The mother protested loudly, she said that she was just a girl, and she had other men, so it wasn’t fixed that she was mine. What a load of bullshit, look at her skin, she looks dornish, and how many Dornish have she fucked? There’s rarely any Dornish in Oldtown, so I doubt there’s more.

So, I slapped the whore’s face with the back of my hand, she cried, weeping on the ground. I said to her, “Girl or Boy, we fight our battles, but the gods let us choose the weapon.” and so I looked at Obara, who looked like she had hope in her eyes, it seems like she wasn’t treated nicely here. I then threw my spear under her feet and I let her choose. “The spear or your mother’s tears.” She chose my spear of course, she was mine, and the whore kept crying while we left the place.

When me and my daughter got out of the brothel, Morian was waiting for me outside, he was cleaning his hands, it looked bloodied, at this point, I’m not going to ask anymore, it looks fun though. He was with an old man, he looked like a maester, but he had no chains on his collar. I asked who he was, he said that the old man’s name was Qyburn, a maester, or was a maester, he was just exiled by the archmaesters. I asked once again why he was exiled, but Morian said to talk later, as we needed to get out of Oldtown as soon as possible.

And so, we quickly got out of Oldtown, riding to Dorne at once.
