Chapter 1: Chapter 1: When I met a devil’s advocate part 1

My name is Vian and these are my memories about how I met devil's advocate.

Despite of being only a teen-ager, my perception and understand of how our life and society work was on par with adults. My family migrated to this so called modern civilized country from a place these civilized people call poor and undeveloped. My look and my different mentality forced to grow up mentally. Well, quality of the life here is much better indeed and it looks like the whole society is very honest and righteous. However, behind most adults' fake smiles I slightly started to feel their hypocrisy and negligence of those who don't have any benefit to them. Such society is becoming lack of common sense, where you actually don't have an actual freedom to express yourself and not being condemned or punished.

Some day, I was sitting at home and playing a video game, my parents took my younger sibling and went to the park. Suddenly I heard siren and I went to the window to look at what os happening outside. It was our neighbor, , a lone man in his early 60s, who was a retired teacher. I didn't contact much with him, but he seemed to be a normal oldman and he never caused troubles for his neighbours . So due my curiosity I ran out of the house to eavesdrop on the conversation between and cops.

" we have received a report that you witnessed a crime scene on your way back to home a half an hour ago, the report came from an accused person and he wants you to be his witness during his trial. Please cone along with us." police officer stated the reason of their visit.

Next day I found out in morning news that a homeless man was sentenced to death penalty due accusation of murder and rape. who probably knew that homeless man witnessed against him despite of being summoned by accused side. After the trial, stopped tutoring and didn't go outside anymore.

On my way back from school, I decided to go to crime scene due my curiosity. It was under the bridge on the city's river. It was getting dark, I started to feel uncomfortable with fark place where a person got murdered a few days ago. However my curiosity won over, so I clenched my fists and went under the bridge.

After I went downstairs and entered under the bridge space which was quite dark, I looked around and after I verified that there nothing unusual,  I decided to leave and then...

"Hoooo, what is a kid like you doing here alone?" a voice  from a darkest corner of the bridge  spoke out suddenly.

I stopped breathing, my legs got numb and I had goosebumps over my whole body. I looked to the direction of where a voice came from. A tall man wearing coat, hat and weird skull mask slowly came out of darkness and approached me.

"Heeeeelp" even tho my body was paralyzed due the fear, my vocal cords still worked okay.

"Ah shit" a man waved his hand and surrounding atmosphere somehow changed, not visually, but you could feel it instinctively.

"Calm down boy, I won't hurt you. But anyway I created soundproof barrier around us, so better stop torturing your vocal cords, okay?" He sat down on the stone block, looking at me and probably waiting for my reply.

"....." I was just staring at him, unable to speak anything.

"Seems like I scared you too much, little boy. Let me introduce myself, my name is Letis, Letis Mandis, you could say that I am like a private detective." a man called Letan introduced and bowed in elegant manner.

"I ... I am Vian" I replied with my name after calming down, I felt that this man doesn't have bad intentions toward me. Also I felt something mysterious about him and my curiosity finally overcame all fear I had.

"Excuse me, mr. Mandis, you just said something about soundproof barrier. I feel something strange around me, mister are you a sorcerer or magician?" I decided to ask straightly.

"Eh??? Hold  on, wait a minute!" He approached me and started to examine my body.

"No way, your body has a track of mana, so I thought you, kid, some child from a circle, but you are actually a normie. Ahhhm! Ok, that was my bad, I should haven't approached you right away." Letis was tilting his head and mumbling to himself.

"Excuse me, mr. Mandis, are you really a sorcerer?! And a mana?! Like real mana from fantasy comics? What is a circle?" I got excited and started to bombard him with questions.

Letis was staring at the ground while thinking of ways how to deal with this situation.

"This.. I won't tell anyone. I promise, really! Please , could you tell me more about yourself and magic. I mean, you already let it slip, so..." (Vian)

"So I can just erase your memories then." Letis moved his hand toward my hand, probably wanting to erase my memory about our meeting.

"Wait, wait, wait! Don't be rush, I mean, you said you sensed some mana in me, so does it mean I can use magic too?" (Vian)

"Not yet. But you have a chance to use it, if you learn how to make a mana core or mana heart. Unfortunately, I am not going to become your teacher and you can cause some trouble if you try to learn how use mana by yourself. So it is better to erase your memories now. Just live on a normal life, boy!" (Letis)

"Please no, I don't want. This is a chance to live a new life, I beg you, let me get into your world. I will do anything if you will teach me." (Vian)

"What a drag...huuh." Letis seemed to be unwilling, but he also was considering something since he didn't erase my memories right away.

"Well, I might teach you a little, if you help me with  something. However you must complete a task within 3 days, can you?" (Letis)

"Name it"(Vian)

"There was a victim here a few days ago, did you hear anything about it?" (Letis)

"Yes, I heard about this case from the morning news" (Vian)

"You mean a vigilante?" (Vian)

"So don't worry, erasing your memories will not hurt y.." (Vian)

"I am sorry, sorry, I take my words back"(Vian)

'cough, cough' (Letis)

"Lets continue, a victim described 2 criminals who are free  and unpunished and she seeks  a revenge. So I must to get her a justice, otherwise she might turn into a vengeful spirit and hurt innocent people. Your task will be to find any one of those criminals withing 3 days faster than me, if do that, I will teach you about things you want to know. Do you have any objections over this bet?" (Letis)

"Deal" (Vian)

"Alright, now let cast a spell on you, so you will be able see ghosts and hear them" (Letis)

Letis touched my forehead and I felt a little bit dizzy. I closed my eyes and when I got normal and opened it again...

"Aaaaaaa..a..a, omg, so this is a ghost" (Vian)

A young woman who was pale more than MC of "Twilight" appeared infront of me.

"I thought ghosts are transparent and..." I mumbled.

"You overwatched Harry Potter and Casper, normies view ghosts as transparent creatures because they basically cannot see them, thus they rely on their imagination. However ghosts are replicas of their original appearance, you could say that their great will or desire attached their soul to a certain materia that replicated their old bodies. But on order to see them you have to infuse mana into your eyes. And..."(Letis)

"Maybe you will let me talk hub?!" the ghost lady rebuked.

"I am Jessy. I was raped and killed here. I want a revenge, but because I cannot touch objects without mana, I had to ask this weirdo here for a help..."(Jessy)

"Watch your mouth little ghost..."(Letis)

"Ok, could you please describe those who did this to you?"(Vian)

Then Jessy started to describe culprits' appearance to me.

"You heard her story, now your trial begins, this is my phone number, we split now and start our investigations. Whoever finds any culprit first, wins. Ready?" (Letis)

"I am ready, but..." (Vian)

"But what? Listen I won't..."(Letis)

"Mr. Mandis, I already know an identity of the first culprit. Does it mean...I won?"(Vian)
