Chapter 3: Chapter 2: Danger and Destruction

The walk was boring. He had the stamina to run, but even after exhausting himself the Goal only increased to 2%. He initially thought there was going to be monster given he was in an entirely new world, but barely saw anything outside of wild animals. Even then there weren't a lot. He collected blue and purple berries, but he had no idea if they were poisonous or not. He tentatively thought even if they were, the curse might protect him, but he'd rather not make assumptions about it. He wasn't sure he could actively hunt any of the animals he saw. 

The sights were nice though, until they weren't. Sure he could watch the breeze in a country side for a while, walking through a dark forest was a different matter. Sure there were some florescent plants, but they were far from common. He had set up a small torch like mushroom on the top of his branch which helped him illuminate the way ahead. Hearing a faint thumping like something heavy moving, Ken took the smart route of shoving the mushroom in his pocket and hiding in a bush. 

Thud. 

Peeking out of the bush Ken saw a huge bear sniff around. He kept quiet and tried not to move or even breathe loudly. As strong as he was, He had no fighting experience, especially not with such a huge creature. Sure, the curse would help his instincts with fighting, but using them would cause the curse to spread more which he wanted to avoid. Shoot.

Defeat the Steel Claw Bear

Well now it's become necessary to beat the monster bear. How could he say no to magic? He didn't have to actively use the curse, it already increased his strength a lot. He could at least give it a try when the moment was right. Ken could always climb a tree if anything happens. 

Right as Ken lunged forward the Bear spun around and swiped with its claws. He instinctively kicked upwards while trying to lower his body, but the attack still hit, causing him to fly into a tree. His foot was fine, but there were now three tears in his pant leg. If looked at closely you could see the curse wriggling upwards. 

Ken could only use the side kick and sweeping leg technique, but was very rusty since he hadn't trained for 6 years. Anything else was improvised on the spot. The bear thundered over, slashing bushes out of its way like a weedwhacker. Ken's only hope was two attempt to sweep the bear and then side kick it as it tries to regain its' balance. Sweeping required close combat though, something Ken did not want to do. There was no way he could get that close without being shredded. 

He dashed to the side as another slash aimed at him, wind brushing across his back from the speed of its claws. Sorry stick, Guess you can't be my broom anymore. Grabbing the stick off the ground he wielded it like a staff. With a swing he tried to stall the bear long enough to get in position, only to fail instantly, another slash obliterating the stick. Ken was feeling quite indignant now, That stick was important to him, despite only having it for a few hours. 

Ken jumped, and with his now strengthened legs, a lot of power was put into them. Attempting to axe kick the bear from the sky. The Bear, which was much smarter then a normal bear, lifted its arms up to block, it felt this attack was dangerous. It was proved right, as Ken's foot hit it, The bear felt its claws and arms bending abnormally. Once Ken jumped back and got in a agile position, the now bent claw bear backed away.

Ken was angry, the anger building from his original confusion of landing in this world, with nothing, being cursed, being laughed at, being weak. The trigger was the stick. Truly in the back of his mind he knew the Curse was making him more susceptible to anger, but all he wanted was for the bear to die. He rushed forward with a pointed spin kick at his enemy, Drilling into the bear. It clawed him frantically, causing deep cuts in his thighs. Soon it slowed down and slumped over, Ken's foot still inside the warm bloody hole.

In disgust Ken pulled his foot out, trying to shake the feeling off. When his haze of anger and adrenaline passed, he felt oddly calm about it. Given his earlier panic attack, He assumed he'd be more freaked out about his first kill. A flashing notification appeared in the corner of his vision. It might have been flashing earlier, but he only noticed just now. Pain starting to spread through his leg he slumped against a tree, opening the notification.

-Demon's Curse: 25% Novice
Increases damage resistance considerably on affected areas, increases volatile emotions,  decreased pain tolerance, drastically decreases lifespan as mastery improves. (NEW) Loses 1 Year of lifespan per 10% increase in mastery.

At least Ken now knew how much lifespan he lost, but the way that was set up, even if he maxed out he'd still have a decent lifespan, so he wasn't too frightened. On another note he wasn't sure which magic he should pick, and he had no idea what Spirit or Enchantment Magic was.

Ken could choose any of the three, but only one of them. The most obvious choice would be Spirit Magic since it said Ken had talent in it. Ken couldn't decide though, since he was bias towards Crystal Magic. He had a clue what it entailed, but if it was true it would be strong. He decided to trust his logic however. Minor seemed to be the next stage up from Novice and he wanted something strong to help him survive. Selecting Spirit Magic he waited for a changed. Feeling nothing, he looked at the screen. Nothing was happening, why wasn't anything- 

And then he blacked out.
