Chapter 21: Chapter 19 – Doorway to an Aberrant Place

I realized partway through that aside from my Core, there weren't any light sources in the dungeon. The worms didn't have eyes, so it didn't affect them. I... Had no such excuse. Apparently the refinement pattern gave me night vision, or maybe it was a side effect of Aura Perception. Either way, I noticed a soft glow coming from up ahead.

 

I stepped out into an open space, the worms behind me scattering and joining in on enlarging yet another new room. There were two things to note. The first was the white, glowing lines engraved in the shape of a giant stylized door. The second was the glowing black crystal the wall was made of. I hadn't expected that...

 

I already knew about the gate, so I focused on the crystal first. Despite being black, the glow it released was dark purple, of all things. Slightly red tinted, but still purple. As the worms dug out the regular stone, more crystal was revealed, but it didn't look like they could affect the crystal itself.

 

The crystal seemed to give off the same kind of creepy mana I'd noticed before... No, the mana was flowing through the crystal from the other side. The amount coming through seemed to be low, but it was powerful. Like a single drop of dye in a jug of water, it diffused into the air before flowing towards my core or the gate.

 

Most of the wall itself wasn't straight or smooth. Natural protrusions stuck out of the wall's surface. Almost as if the crystal had slowly grown outwards. The area around the gate was the exception. It was perfectly level with the white runes and smooth to the touch. Sometimes mana would flow across that smooth surface before being sucked into the gate through the runes.

 

With nothing else about the wall catching my attention, I turned my attention to the gate. It was about ten meters tall and just as wide, far larger than I would have expected. Or wanted. The frame was shaped in intricate, column-like patterns with flowing white scrollwork decorating the edges.

The inside of the gate, where the opening should have been, was filled with a colorful viscous liquid. I could sense it was composed of multiple types of energy. Occasionally, the energy would drip towards my Core, and just like the creepy mana, it would diffuse into the air, breaking apart into its components.

 

That energy reminded me strongly of CP. Or at least the description of CP the Interface gave. Most likely, this gate was the source of the two CP I was already getting. I opened my status to check it.
