Chapter 152: Royal Duties

“Responding to Your Majesty… I don’t know.” Replied the maid, her voice on the verge of tears. Her knees had been shaking for the last ten minutes, and even her back was hurting, but she didn’t dare move or disrupt Seth.

Seth’s eyebrows rose, and he said: “You don’t have to keep kneeling there. Didn’t you come here to clean the bath?”

“Responding to Your Majesty, cleaning the bath while Your Majesty is still here….”

“Didn’t I say not to mind me? If you’re worried you’ll see me naked, I’m wearing shorts, so you don’t have to.” Said Seth closing his eyes again.

The maid sighed under her breath and finally stood up. After seeing that Seth was not reacting, she started mopping the bath floor as she was supposed to, but her nerves remained stretched the entire time as her eyes kept darting at Seth.

Doing the part between the door and the bath was still manageable, but once that was done, she had to move and mop the areas directly in Seth’s line of sight. Taking a deep breath, she started moving forward, carefully watching Seth from the corner of her eyes.

Once she noticed his eyes were closed, she heaved another sigh of relief and felt her nerves calm down somewhat. Just as she thought she might be able to finish today’s job in peace, Seth’s voice drifted in her ears.

“How long have you worked here?”

The maid’s body shook, and she quickly fell to her knees: “Responding to Your Majesty, I’ve been working in the royal chambers for a month and nine days.”

Seth opened his eyes and shook his head: “Stop with the kneeling and responding to ‘your majesty’ stuff. It’s pointless. A simple bow is enough if you want to show respect, at least to me, but I’m sure the others will probably also don’t mind.”

“Well, except Aleena. She might mess with you for a bit, so you better be careful with her.”

“As I was saying, a small bow is enough. As for speaking, just talk normally. There’s no one here, and I’ve never been big on formalities.”

The maid was once more stunned and stuttered as she said: “Understood, Your Majesty.”

“Continue cleaning. What is your name?” said Seth, closing his eyes again.

The maid quickly stood up and started cleaning again. “Re- My name is June Key, Your Majesty.”

“June key? Are you nobility?” asked Seth with raised eyebrows, his eyes remaining closed.

“My family used to be…” said the woman.

“If you don’t mind, can you tell me more?”

The woman paused for a second before saying: “My father used to be a noble of Sun, but he was caught stealing from the crown family. He ran away with his riches and little girl, but the Sun armies chased him even in Wrath. With no other choice, he spent all the gold he had stolen to pay mercenaries to protect him while in Wrath, but the Sun kingdom never stopped sending more and more people.”

“Broke, and with no other choice, father ran again, this time heading into Blood. That’s about it, Your Majesty.”

Seth sighed and said: “The Sun armies are indeed relentless. I’m surprised they didn’t chase you two in blood as well. They are probably still afraid of the blood curse….”

The woman looked at Seth with surprise and asked: “Has Your Majesty been to the Sun Kingdom?” She then realized she had just spoken out of line and quickly said: “I apologize for -“

“It’s fine.” Interrupted Seth. “I haven’t really been to Sun, but I’ve passed through its lands and know a thing or two about it. Is your father still alive?”

“He is not, Your Majesty.” Replied June.

“My condolences. Despite everything, a man who had spent all his money but kept his daughter safe must have been a good man.” Said Seth with a sigh.

“He was, Your Majesty. Thank you.”

Seth nodded and fell silent, allowing the woman to continue her work. After she was done and gathered her tools to leave, Seth spoke once more.

“June, what do you think about the kingdom?”

June was startled to be once more addressed by Seth, but she was calmer than at the start and bowed as she said: “I think Your Majesty has done a great job of creating a wonderful kingdom.”

Feeling the positive perception the woman was sending his way, Seth smiled and said: “Thank you for your kind words, June. Good work.”

“Your Majesty.” Bowed June and left the bath.

Once she was gone, Seth also teleported back to his room, where he spent the night cultivating. Hollie never came, and Seth also didn’t bother her either.

The following day, Seth donned a set of royal clothes before walking outside and heading toward the royal palace.

Seth appearing in public was rare, so every servant he passed by was immediately surprised before quickly falling to their knees. He would nod and wave to them as he continued forward.

Eventually, he arrived at the doors to his throne room, where the two court officials immediately fell to their knees.

“Stand up,” said Seth before pushing the door open and strolling inside.

Sitting on her throne, listening to an official delivering his reports, Maya looked surprised towards the door, only to smile when she spotted Seth walking inside.

Waving her hand to dismiss the official, she said: “I don’t usually see you walking anymore. Did someone remember they had legs?”

The official walking away almost stumbled on his feet when he heard the Queen’s words and increased his speed.

Seth saw his reaction and chuckled as he said to Maya: “That’s how a king should be welcomed to his own throne room?”

“What own throne room? I’ve spent a hundred times more time here than you did.” Said Maya.

The poor court official cursed the gods for not giving him more feet to walk even faster, the distance to the throne room’s door seeming longer now than ever.

Seth shook his head and waved his hand, teleporting the official out of the room before rushing towards Maya’s throne and pulling her up into his arms.

“I see someone is lively again.” Said Maya, passionately looking into Seth’s eyes.

“And someone is as naughty as ever.” Replied Seth, staring back at her.

Maya moved her hands and started slowly undoing the blouse, keeping her chest in place. “Will Your Majesty punish this naughty Queen?”

Seth started closing the buttons at her chest and said with a chuckle: “I was actually thinking of doing just that.”

Maya deflated like a balloon falling out of Seth’s arms into her throne as she said: “And I got wet for nothing.”

Seth chuckled and moved to sit beside her, holding her warm hand. “We’ll take care of that, but we can’t leave the throne room empty now.”

Maya nodded with a sigh and said: “Then I’m going -“

“No, you’re not.” Interrupted Seth. “We’ll both stay here.”

Maya’s eyebrows rose, and she smiled mysteriously before nodding and stopping herself from getting up.

“There’s an audience in two hours. If they are here, tell them King Seth and Queen Maya of Endora will receive them now.” Said Maya loudly.

Seth smiled at her and rested back on his throne.

The court officials scattered to move the audience forward, and there was a loud announcement in less than ten minutes.

“Priest Sanborn seeks an audience with King Seth of Endora on the creation of the Church of Hope.”

Seth’s eyebrows rose in surprise as he shouted: “Granted.”

“What is this about?” asked Seth in a whisper.

Maya giggled and didn’t say anything back, giving Seth no choice but to use the system. Since it no longer had any access to past records, the details the system gave him were pretty scarce, making Seth sigh as he listened to the officials making their presentations.

After Priest Sanborn arrived in front of the throne, he knelt before Seth and Maya and said: “Your Majesties.”

Seth nodded and said: “Speak. Tell me why you have requested an audience.”

The man quickly lowered his head and started talking about how creating a church for the people gathered from the external kingdom would help everyone help more at peace and allow them to integrate better into Endora.

Seth only had to listen to a few words from the man to know it was mostly a way to scam the newcomers, selling them faith for money.

Peeking at Maya, he found her smirking towards him, and Seth sighed silently as he turned towards the man.

Since he had granted an audience to the man, he had to listen to his entire story to the end, so as much as he wanted to throw him out, it would stain his image.

The man appeared to want to take full advantage of the audience since there seemed to be no end as soon as he started speaking.

As Seth regretted his decision to come there and act as a king for once, he felt something moving above his pants. Looking down, he noticed that Maya had moved her hand over her throne into his lap and was rubbing his crotch.

Manipulating his energy, he wrote her a message in the air.

“That’s enough, priest Sanborn. Queen Maya and I have heard your request and will consider it carefully. One of my officials will deliver our decision to you in a few days.”

“Thank you, Your Majesties, for listening to my humble wish.” Replied the priest, hitting his head against the floor twice before lifting his head to look at Seth’s and Maya’s faces and try to get a read on what decision they might come to.

When he looked up, he was confused to see Seth looking back with a wry smile while Maya was licking her lips with no shame. Before he could process what was happening, Seth said: “You’re welcome. You can leave now.”

Sanborn bowed again and turned to leave the throne room.

“You know he will figure out what happened, don’t you?” asked Seth once the man was gone.

Maya shrugged her shoulders and said: “So what? Do you consider his idea of preying on the people’s feelings to line up his pockets worth anything more than us fooling around? I planned on having him thrown out of the kingdom. He got away easily.”

Seth shook his head, figuring her thoughts were not necessarily wrong, when his court officials spoke again from behind the room doors.

“Your Majesty, Ascended Alexandra Ashley is requesting an emergency audience. She is accompanied by a citizen named ... Angus.”

Seth and Maya looked at each other, but neither seemed to know why Alexa would use official channels to look for them. They also had no idea who that citizen was.

“Enter.” Said Seth, looking forward to something interesting finally happening.
